Kassandra Bay Hotel

This is a small family run, friendly and very relaxed hotel. The rooms were kept very clean and spotless (Top floor was good with a big balcony), The Pool and Bar Area was always kept clean and tidy. The walk to the village is about 10 minutes up a hill (a little steep in places) and if you don't want to walk to the beach (downhill) you can catch the little train for €1 (which goes both ways).
The food was simple but very good, you had a good variety at breakfast, with a choice of 3 cereals, yoghurt, honey and hazelnut chocolate spread (Nutella), 3 types of jam, 2 cold meats, cheese, a choice of white or brown bread, rolls, bread for toasting and eggs of the day dish (boiled or omelette), Coffee and hot water for Tea along with fruit juice. Every evening you started with simple light soup (brought to your table), then a choice of two mains along with either potato’s, pasta or rice, also a good salad choice and then a small light sweet, you never felt that you had to eat everything .
The evening entertainment was amusing and fun, we had two BBQ evenings while we stayed, with the last being a Greek theme night. I had no idea Thomson is not using this hotel from next year which is a shame as it is such a lovely place to stay, the rep did explain the reason behind the change, put it this way “Big is Better” for TUI. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a relaxing and economical break.

Room Tip: Free Wifi down round the Bar and pool. Book a fan did the job

Just spent a fortnight at this hotel and have mixed feelings yes its good value for money but the quality of the food reflects this some of the soup they served looked and tasted like the water you strain from veg after cooking ! Having said that it is in a beautiful location our room 305 had a wonderful view over the pool and sea really stunning. On arrival there was a quick and efficient check in and help with taking cases to your room a nice touch. Rooms are on the small size but are kept spotlessly clean and linen changed twice a week lovely bathroom as well quite a treat in Greece. As I mentioned food is a bit hit and miss yes its true this hotel is reasonably priced but food could have been a bit more varied and better presented there,s only so much pasta you can take ! The hill is a bit of an issue just don t attempt it in the midday sun we went up to the town most evenings and yes it is a struggle but take your time and you will be fine.Kriopigi itself is a nice little town with a few bars and restaurants can recommend Casablanca bar had some fun evenings here (Hi to eddie and costas who looked after us so well will miss you) Also its worth taking a trip to kalithea the next town along bustling nightlife and a larger selection of shops bars etc. Can also recommend Kriopigi car hire we had a car for a day for 40 euro really good value . All in all a good relaxing holiday in a stunning location, but I can t see us returning as we love the greek islands more than the mainland.

Room Tip: top floor rooms have better views

This trip was my 70th birthday present for me from my hubby. It is the friendliest hotel I have ever stayed at .It is family run and they cannot do enough for you .The staff are very friendly and helpful too. The rooms are small but we only wanted it to sleep in so no problems there ,they are cleaned to a good standard every day with clean sheets and towels regularly.The balcony was big enough with a small table and 2 chairs .The food was good and always a choice plus salads .We went with the view that if the food was not so good we could afford to eat out as the holiday was so reasonably priced ,as it happened we only ate out twice and that was more for a change of scenery than the food .My husband and sister asked the owner if they could organise a birthday cake for me as a surprise which they did and they came out with it after dinner on my birthday singing happy birthday as well .The hill is a killer but we managed it quite a few times ,my hubby at 77 and has a knee problem but was always first up to the top. Hope to visit again in future years such a shame Thompson are dropping it after this year .

I would definitely recommend this hotel. The room was ideal, the swimming pool was great, not once was there a problem getting a sun bed, there was never more than 8 people in the pool either. And as for the food, wow! It's so good! So close to the beach and village too! We went here for our honeymoon and would not hesitate to recommend, we would definitely go back.

Room Tip: The resort is not noisy and the rooms have balconies with great views!

We are a young couple and this was our first holiday together. We went around the end of June 2014, and the weather was perfect every day. We went with Thomson, but recently discovered that this hotel has been taken off their holidays.

Firstly the pros;
-The staff are extremely friendly and helpful
-Hotel room and areas were very clean
-Snack bar had a very good choice of food for lunch
-Beaches in the area were small but lovely, we didn't mind the 15 minute walk to the beach.
-The town Kallithea was much bigger than Kriopigi and full of nice bars and a few good restaurants (but was an 8 Euro taxi journey away/or an hour-and-a-half walk)

Next, the cons;
-Room was small and very basic, but we have no complaints about this as we were rarely in the room anyway.
-The local town which was 5 minutes walk up the hill was very limited, with only a couple bars and a few restaurants. Not a great choice.
-We found the surrounding area very hilly, we didn't mind too much but this could be difficult for some.
-A big complaint was the food at the hotel. Due to the price and having read some negative reviews we were not expecting brilliant food. We ate there the first night we got there.. and never again. The buffet was extremely limited, pretty much nothing for vegetarians. The food was lukewarm and the soup could have been tap water... Simply feels like no effort or money went into the food at all, and this really let the hotel down. Due to this we ate out every night. You'd think it would be difficult to go wrong with a continental breakfast, but it was awful. Again, very limited and cheap.

Overall we had a really good holiday, but in the end we just treated the hotel as a bed and breakfast rather than the half-board which we paid for. Having been to many Greek islands, we were disappointed that Halkidiki (around where we were) was more like mainland-Greece and not as quaint and picturesque. Although it was a brilliant first holiday, we wont be coming back.

One of the most difficult reviews I have written. This was nearly world class and yet parts of it fell flat. As a treat from my wife following some illness we decided to try an area in Greece we had not been to before - west of Thassos on one of the Halkidiki peninsulars. First of all this holiday was not expensive considering the near peak time (early July) and so any review must take that into account. The Hotel is a small - around 35 rooms set in one block with a medium sized pool and the restaurant/reception area in a separate building and a long sweeping bar area raised above and set back from the pool area. The rooms are small, ours was around 13' X 9' excluding the bathroom and was sold as a "twin with space for a cot" in the event it was a double with space for a rabbit hutch and no amount of arguing with with the rep or the hotel could solicit a change as I was informed that this is what I had paid for and that this was one of the larger rooms - both statements untrue, and in the event the hotel was full and a change could not be accommodated. Curiously the balcony area was nearly the same size as the room. Air con and room safe charged extra at 5 euro per day and 10 euro for the week respectively.

A pleasant eating area giving the opportunity to eat outside (or in) was a self service type affair aside from the initial soup course. I thought the food was actually very good although the choice was minimal and the breakfasts were less than minimal. As other reviewers have alluded to on this site there was a severe lack of much fruit or vedg. A twice weekly meal was catered for around the pool area under the guise of Greek night and a BBQ night, very well done and a nice touch. This appears to be a family owned hotel and all staff seemed friendly and helpful, never any rush or queuing at the bar, all very laid back and a great change from large hotels.

The pool area was pleasant enough. The pool itself seemed clean although there was a light scum around the rim of the water. Deep at 2 metres plus at one end with a small child's pool attached. The are only about 11 sun umbrella's so your chances of securing one (by fair means) are slim.

The hotel is situated on a relatively steep hill, the beach about a 15 minute walk away and a bit longer returning up the hill. Not ideal for anybody with health problems although a novelty road train runs and returns each hour at the cost of 1 euro per person each way. The beach is pleasant albeit fairly narrow and packed at this time of year. 2 beds and a brolly 5 euro's per day. Nice sea, relatively gently sloping. A small cafe serves toasted sandwiches/drinks and beach vendors ply various wares - watches, camera's, bags, donuts etc but are not overly pushy. We actually preferred the beach to the pool. An umbrella could be hired and there was a gently breeze.

The trips on offer (by the operator) included a boat trip to see better beaches than the local one and a boat trip to Mount Athos where you are not aloud to disembark and not only no women are aloud there but no females of any species, (how do they know and what do they do with them?) you are provided with binoculars to survey the worlds only monastic state, so if monk voyeurism is your thing this is for you. Thessolonika is not far away should you wish to explore and some nice hikes and bike rides available, none of which we sampled.

In summarizing I would say that if your expectations and budget are not too high, give this a go.
It has a very authentic Greek feel to it, the staff are generally helpful and friendly and you will adjust to your small room. Any hints would include: take your travel kettle and tea.coffee/coffee mate, if you don't want to pay for a brolly on the beach take your own. There is not a TV set in the room which is no bad thing. Again, reiterating what others on here have said: a little bit of investment would really make this place superb but then it may become too pricey. For a chill out week or two I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Poolside rooms have less air-con noise.
