We (4 adults plus baby) stayed for four nights in the Panorama suite while visiting the Loire region for the vintage bike festival in June 2013.
We found the accommodation to be everything we'd expected and more — wonderful hilltop location, a few good restaurants within walking distance (surprising given the modest size of Candes-Saint-Martin), and an easy 30 minute velo to Saumur, the nearest town.
Our host, Siobhan, was unfailingly helpful, available at the drop of a hat, and full of local knowledge based on 20 years in the region.
The apartment itself was spotless, excellently specced with all the modern amenities you'd expect, whilst still managing to retain the charm of its original construction. There is also a good-sized communal garden and excellent roofed outdoor oven / BBQ area.
The area surrounding is largely unspoilt by tourism. A noticeable lack of miniature Eiffell Towers and a population who speak less English than the English would like, but probably more than we should expect, results in a genuine experience of the Loire region rather than a version of France tailored to the tourist Euro.
In short, a worry-free, effortlessly chilled base from which to explore this beautiful and fascinating region. I could go on, but I won't. Discover this place for yourself.
Oh, and make sure to get into as many caves as you can. They're everywhere.
