Akrathos Beach Hotel
Ranked #5 of 10 Hotels in Ouranoupolis
Reviewed 9 July 2012

The hotel has a very good position however the service and the athmosphere will not provide you with a good holiday.
Rooms
Rooms are tidy enough although towels are not changed as often as needed. There is air conditioning in the room but if you arrive before the 1st of July you have to pay 3 euros per day for air conditioning. the villas are big and when the hotel is fully booked there is no good time to rest. When the guests stop making noise the cleaning ladies will start with their own noise. 3 euros per hour for wireless internet in you room or free internet in the reception - that does not work.
Food
The food is not good, it is tasteless and the presentation of the food does not increase your apetite either. Rice, uncooked beans and boiled pasta every day and fried small fish. i could hardly see some feta cheese in this restaurant in the feta cheese country. The salads are made of the cheapest tasteless supermarket veggies. There is not enough food variety and there is always a struggle to get some food on your plate. Not enough fruits - we had one sort of fruit every evening and those were not even ripe. BAd coffe, ok tea. The restaurant is very busy, the tables are crowded, hard to find a place to sit, and people are running around with food on their plates. it feels like eating in a jungle fighting for bad food. The staf are cleaning the tables making their job as loud as they possibly can. If you want to have a peaceful moment on the veranda then you must be lucky to find a table as there are only 4 or 5 tables for more then 600 guests. the veranda is only open in the morning but you cannot have breakfast there - lucky enough for the smokers that they can smoke there. if you dare to take one peace of fruit out of the restaurant to feed the children whilst on the beach you are treated like an invader and you are told off in the most disgraceful and dictatorial manner by the great manager. so if you want to eat properly on your holiday avoid the hotel restaurant and the all inclusive deals. if you get a early booking fee you will see it is not a discount as the quality of food is affected by those 30% you paid less half a year before your holiday. the hotel policy really is '' Unwanted guest you are not welcome here and we will try our best to make your holiday a nightmare! You are forbidden to do anything here! Dont even dream to go back home rested and full of energy, this will not happen if you stay at our hotel!''
Beach
The beach is over the main road and it can be reached by a hotel bridge which does not look at all safe for children. the beach has sunbeds but of you want to move them where the shade is you will be in trouble as they are chained to the umbrellas. good news are that there are plenty of other beaches nearby or reachable by boats that you can enjoy.
Staff
Unpolite, unhelpfull.

Just came back from Akrathos hotel and having read many of the contradicting reviews I have to say our impressions about the hotel. First, let’s get it straight - It’s a three star hotel! You get what you paid for and more. Lovely pool, great beach, free sun beds everywhere, excellent service, kind staff. It is evident everywhere that the hotel is very well managed! The hotel has a nice and caring women doctor to whom we send our greetings. Ms Penelope did not just cure our son’s allergy and cough but she did actually care and was genuinely concerned about his state, urging us to call her be it day or night! The hotel is very clean, no smell in our room! The food could be a bit better prepared, although it was fine, several courses every meal, but only one kind of fruit for lunch, peaches, apricots or apples. As the end of the month approached the crowd in the restaurant and on the beach became more and more annoying, so definitely choose off-season periods, it is more pleasant when there are less people. BRING A MOSQUITO SPRAY for the children playground and for sitting outside, no mosquitoes in our room though. I had only one complaint the water was staying in the bathtub and it was resolved in the matter of hours. We had a great time and would definitely go back!

We visited the hotel in the end of July 2012. The hotel and the facilities are average class as expected for these kind of hotels in Greece. The beach is OK and the housekeeping is OK. But the food - this was the worst food experience I've had. No variety at all. Every day the menu stays the same. The things that were good enough to eat were not tasty. No meat for lunch, no fruits (except green peaches - tons of them), no soups, no fish (except some kind of anchovy in grease). Lots of macaroni - the land of macaroni. When you go to lunch you can choose from 3-4 different types. At dinner - 1-2 types. Battling with Russian animals for food all the time. The drinks were poor. Local soft drinks, lousy filter coffee and beer. Overall I got the impression the the politics of the hotel is: "I screwed you. Most probably you won't come here again, but some other poor stupid will."

It could have been a great hotel. The location is good, the rooms are spacious, they provide good facilities, the pool and everything. But they simply don't care about their guests. When we arrived there was a long line of ants from the bathroom to the balcony. They disinfected after we asked them to and the room had that intense smell for the rest of the day. Obviously they should have taken care of it before, but they didn't. That exact first night there was a wedding reception at the hotel and if you have any idea of a greek traditional celebration you know that we were't able to sleep until 3 in the morning because of the loud music. They should have informed me when i made the reservation a couple of days before. But they didn't. Their all inclusive program doesn't "include all", for example there is free icecream from 11 to 12:30 only, toasts or cold coffee must be paid extra but the most important thing is that the guests are not informed beforehand about it. They are so unprofessional that when my 4-year-old son lost his sunglasses somewhere in the premises and we told the reception about it, they told us to ask around in the hotel ourselves! We forgot a T-shirt in the wardrobe and they didn't even call us to ask if we need it!
No, if you value the money you spend, don't go to this hotel. There are a lot nearby, after all.

We were in this hotel in the middle of June 2012 .The hotel is not more than 3 stars. Ok I'm agree that buildings, view, rooms are good-like every one hotel in Greece of this rang, with the exception of the smell, that came from the bathroom-smell of a canal like from city WC.I'm agree with this, that the staff is friendly, the pool and beach are good, but food.....what can I say.....What kind of all inclusive....The basic things were missing. The food is poor and low quality and not tasty. The fish is low quality. There was no meat for lunch for seven days, there was no soup for lunch (for example one day there were 4 main dishes-rise,spaghetti,2 kind of macaroni). There were no cheese and olives for breakfast and lunch. The dessert for lunch were green peaches(nectarines). Drinks are-local variant of cola, fanta and instant juice(like Tang) . All inclusive doesn't include coffee in the beach bar ,so if you want coffee in the afternoon you must go upstairs and take it downstairs to the beach in the heat. You must do the same exercise when you need to go to the WC, because there is no WC at the beach. And last the hotel is so noisy, there is running and screaming little Russians in 7.30 in the morning,so you can't sleep longer.
Air condition is not included in all inclusive conception in this hotel,so if you need it you must paid for it.

I stayed from mid till end of june 2012 with my wife and 4 year old son. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
Fantastic beach clean and enty of space. Staff are friedly and kind. Swimming pools are ok acceptable. The hotel buildings are good and child friendly in terms of safety.

Cons:
All inclusive is in fact not what it actually should be. You get fake coca cola, fake sprite fake fanta and noname beer . Thats it. Seriously nothing more. Air conditioner in the rooms costs 3 euro per day. Rooms sound isolation sucks. You can hear your neighbours farting. Bad news if ur trying to put a kid to sleep. The walk to the beach is pretty awefull. You need to cross the main street or take a bridge with a lot of steps. The food is mediocre to say the least. No variety and very poor quality. The only fruit offered was nectarines and one day we got apples. Thats it. The meat is either pork or sardines. Pasta is like rubber.

All in all i was expecting a lot more . I would not stay in this hotel again .

It was an excellent family vacation! The hotel consists of several buildings. The room was on the first floor, overlooking the sea and the swimming pool. For four persons was small, but the children (9 and 12 year old) is not much stayed in the room. The sea was excellent, clean, pleasantly cool. The pool water is acceptable, the food very good. Children can access the sports field. Parking was not a problem.
The hotel is rather isolated, does not have many options for entertainment. Greek evening once a week, for a real treat for the holiday. In the neighborhood is not much to see. This is the only shortcoming of the place. However, any time I would like to return here.
