My wife and I have always wanted to go whale watching. When we realized the Dominican Republic is the place to be in the winter for humpback whales, we looked for a tour service. We know our hotel would be too expensive, and the options seemed to require a flight to the Sanama Peninsula. Then we found Seavis offered a tour from Miches. We had our own car, Alexander at Seavis arranged for us to caravan with their bus, offered the service of Cesar as a personal guide, and we were off! Great travel experience, weather could have been better but Cisco our main guide offered seamless German, English, French, Spanish info and a FABULOUS meal at the end. THANK YOU!

I took the Sunset Tour - tailor made for us who were on a cruise with afternoon only available. Best choice even if unusual, cause we got to see Saona when everybody had left and enjoyed a beautiful sunset with starfish and stingrays swimming around us.
Alexander was quick organizing the boat on a last minute call: we had to put together a group of 12 and drive to Bayahibe.
Quick brief, choice of snorkeling equipment and then we left. The half day excursion was amazing... Cisco took us (and kept giving us lots of info about everything the whole time) to the caves, through the mangroves to see the fregades, to Saona Island where we could snorkel, enjoy a rich lunch, drink Santo Libre, walk, swim. The best time was when sun started going down, all boats left and the beach was all for us!
On our way back, starfish and stingrays in the Piscina Natural at sunset...
They even arranged the taxi back to the ship in La Romana for us.
Seavis definitely made our day!

We thought there would be more snorkeling, but were so much happier with what we discovered instead. The shallow part of the sea with the starfish was amazing, and when we got to the tip of isla saona, the best part was taking a walk along the deserted stretch of beach with just me and my spouse. This review is long overdue, but I think Mariana was the guide, and she did a fantastic job with the tour in three different languages.

4 of us took the Saona VIP tour on December 23, 2011. We were picked up on time from Now Larimar, and stopped at two more hotels before making the approx. 2 hour trip to the marina.

Once at the marina we were directed to a small cantina to listen to an explanation of the day - a speedboat was to take us to see historic caves, the mangroves, a peaceful bay where we can find starfish, a tour of a village and lunch, and snorkelling at Saona Island.

Every stop was amazing...our guide was very informative - he told us about the history of the area, the people and customs, the ecological impact of development over the past 20 years, and lots of fun stories. The highlight was the village tour - a glimpse into a community that lives very simply and is mostly self-sustaining. Expect to see a church, the local hospital, local businesses, a sea turtle conservation project, and a man who hosts the local cock fights - seriously. Lunch was delicious, fresh grilled lobster and salads.

The snorkelling on the island is one of the most beautiful, pure clean beaches I have ever seen - like you are on a deserted island. It was churned up the day we were there, but the reefs still hosted a ton of fish to see.

It's a long day, they picked us up at 6:45am and we got back at about 8:30pm, but extremely rewarding and well worth the $100US each.
