“Third time visitor - still enjoying the experience”

This was our families 3rd time at this Iberostar in La Romana. We knew what to expect, knew what to ask for and knew what the outcome would be. Everyone would love the first floor rooms, right at the pool side but those are limited. Knowing that, we got nice rooms in Building 3, overlooking one end of the pool, which turned out to be very acceptable to us. The best part about this Iberostar has to be the people. It has been 3 years since staying at this resort yet when I walked out to the pool bar shortly after our arrival I was greeted with a big happy "Tomas" from my good friend Marcelino. Makes one feel welcomed when a staff member remembers your name. We love the Dominican people. There is a genuine warmth that they possess and share and it is something I take back with me each time I visit the DR.

In terms of the rooms, they are neat, clean, suitably equipped for a warm weather resort. If you spend a lot of time in the room, something is wrong to begin with. We never lacked for clean towels or other amenities. The room is cleaned each day and then adorned with some freshly picked flowers from around the resort. A nice touch.

The food is good, not great. But again, we did not go there expecting 5 star food. The Japanese restaurant is outstanding as is the gourmet choice. The steakhouse was OK, not great and we got shut out at the mexican restaurant (even though we saw a ton of empty tables each night that we walked by there!). I strongly recommend that the reservation process be reviewed because given that our package came with 4 nights in a theme restaurant, we should have been able to hit each one once. Buffet is varied enough for our taste and the food was fresh and turned quickly, which is important in that warm weather. The staff in the restaurant areas are tremendous. Friendly, efficient and warm.

The bar areas were well staffed and adequately equipped. We never had to wait more than a minute or two for a drink and we got what we ordered each time. Try the Dirty Monkey, you won't regret it.

I have seen other reviews about the tour operators. I won't trash our tour company or contact person as I think they are doing what they are told. I would just warn people to make sure you know what you are getting for your money and don't be afraid to negotiate. We did and we saved some money on the one tour we took, thank God as it was not even worth what we ended up paying, In the future, we would stay clear of the extras and just enjoy the heck out of the resort, which is what we paid for to begin with.

Final comment is that we know going to the Dominican that the people that work at these resorts depend on the traveler's tipping to really make any money. Each day I would go to the cashier looking for some one dollar bills to use during the day for tipping. The most I could get, not matter what day or time of day I checked in, was five singles. That is crazy. The cashier should carry sufficient cash to be able to break larger bills down into smaller tipping amounts. The people who work the various areas around the resort rely on that and I hated the fact that I could not tip like I wanted to at each spot we visited. This issue has presented itself each time we have visited the Iberostar and this should be easy to fix.

My family would recommend this resort to families looking for a safe, fun and relaxing place to vacation. If you are looking for wild, single nightlife, not the place for you. Vast global traveler base which makes it fun to meet folks from other parts of the world.

Don't be shy, book today and enjoy all that the Dominican has to offer, which is substantial!

We booked our very first all in vacation in this hotel. A little apprehensive of this type of vacation... But we are sold! Already the second day we decided to come back next year. Beautiful hotel, very clean, great food, extremely nice people working there, lots of activities, yummy cocktails and a magical beach!

Spent a week at Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus with mixed feelings on the stay. The staff at this resort is amazing…very friendly and helpful and was a big positive regarding our trip. However, the overall atmosphere left much to be desired. During our stay, clientele was mainly older couples and young families.

Resort décor was a bit ornate and thought it a bit odd that the swans were gated in the pond. All in all, the ‘birds’ (peacocks, flamingos, ducks) were interesting to see but seemed a bit out of place and prescribed. Loved the stray cats though…no one seemed to bother them and they felt like the mascots of the resort.

In terms of our Westjet rep (Eddie)…he was not terribly helpful. Did not feel he was being impartial or honest when we asked about excursions with other tour companies such as pro excursions and we seemed more like an inconvenience than valued customers. One of our excursions through Hola Tours ended up being cancelled and he failed to inform us after waiting an hour after our 8:00 a.m departure. We had to call him and getting our refund was an all day event. Note to Air Canada…your rep. Jacqueline should not agree to deal with Westjet customers if she cannot provide proper customer service. If she is doing a ‘favor’ for a colleague/friend then she should have enough respect to treat all customers equally. Based on my experience with her, I will hesitate to book with Air Canada for future vacations too. On the positive though, our interaction with the Air Transat rep, Anne was a dream. She was very sweet and could teach others about dealing with people. Our tour to Santo Domingo with Air Transat left much to be desired but Anne listened to our feedback and ‘sincerely’ apologized for the issues that arose. She just made us feel better about a not-so-great excursion.

What made our trip was definitely the staff. They are truly amazing at this resort except for one ofs the guy with the yellow jacket who walked around the buffet area with such a negative energy. Literally, he stared at us in the lobby bar and looked/walked away…definitely not welcoming. Some of the staff that made our holiday enjoyable were Antonio, Jacqueline and Davies to name a few, in the buffet restaurant. On the spur of the moment, they really came through to surprise my friend for her birthday and made the whole night and our stay very memorable. Truly, they should be commended because they work so hard while reflecting a positive attitude. Tipped for such good service but noted not everyone did. Animation team as a whole was fun and inclusive….Wendy, Germain, Daniel and of course, Lady Gaga!

As mentioned, we did one excursion to Santo Domingo through Air Transat as we missed the tour with Westjet. Our tour guide for Santo Domingo was a bit bizarre and seemed to have lapses in memory. Plus, our bus driver went M.I.A. for 40 minutes while we waited in the heat of the sun in the colonial district. Our other cultural tour with Hola Tours that was scheduled ended up being cancelled.

Food was varied but repetitive over the days…could not tell what ‘theme’ night it was from night to night. Bacon in the morning was gone in a flash and what was left mostly fatty than meaty. Fish was present most nights and enjoyable. Only tried the Mexican a la carte, which was very good. It’s also open late a night for snacks and mainly had burgers, desserts with some fruit. Disappointed that room service had to be ordered by 10:30 p.m. and for that reason never had an opportunity to try it.

Surprised that the beach was very small. There are other resorts on either side so there are many people on the small stretch of beach. Water was clam but crowded and the less crowded areas were rocky. Appreciated that vendors were at specific locations so they did not come up to you while relaxing. Did not have an opportunity to try the Dressel Divers diving centre but many people looked like they were accessing their services. Spoke to a family who did the Catalina tour for roughly $40.00 and they had positive feedback of the snorkeling trip.

The safe and internet were extra expenses as well as using the phone in our room. Safe is $2.00 US/day; Internet $3.00/2 hours (must be used in succession) or $30/4 days, $50/7 days. For a five star resort, would expect Wi-Fi to be included…it just seemed like a money grab and not reflective of a 5 star resort. Strange occurrence in our room when one morning someone opened our ‘locked’ door. We were asleep and heard the door open and close which woke us both up. The only thing we were aware of was a notice stating they were going to fumigate our room. However, the day before we asked not to have our room fumigated due to health reasons so there should not have been a reason to access our room…very strange.

A few nights went to the casino which is within walking distance from the resort. Did the walk and did not feel unsafe…there is also a casino bus if you prefer a ride. The casino itself is small and seemed mainly filled with tourists. Apparently, you can use the beach off the casino during the day but we chose to stay on the resort. Also, there is a disco which again seemed like a money grab. For some reason the cover charge for the disco was different for each of us $10 and $6. Disco was uneventful…barely anyone dancing and drink prices varied again.

All in all, not sure about a trip back to this resort even though the staff was amazing.

This was the third time at this hotel and it seems to get better each time .from checking in to checking out the whole stay was a joy.the staff are great every one of them from the gardeners who work all day to keep the grounds looking perfect to the staff who keep you fed and watered and the staff at the front desk who walk around all day makeing sure that everyone is happy.
all the staff work so hard to make your stay a happy one and they never stop smileing we can not fault anyone or anything it was the best holliday we have had .
If people find fault with this hotel or the staff then you will never please them.

Room Tip: block 3 is near pool and beach and for us was ideal haveing grand kids with us.

this is one of the best resorts on all counts used by tourist industry.Although we spend most of the time during the day out of the room. The room is of good size and comfortable, and clean.
The beach is well organized and served.
The food in the main buffet should be more versatile and more sophisticated (tasty). Yet, we care less about the food because we are more interested in intense swimming and catamaran sailing

the hotel met our expectations however it wasn't as good as other Iberostar hotels we have been to including the one in Punta Cana. We found the food not so great.
Overall I still think Iberostar is an amazing choice for an all-inclusive vacation.

We cannot imagine being at another place or area in the Dominican Republic. This was our 8th trip to Iberoster Hacienda. We have tried 2 other locations, but none compare. The grounds are very well kept and clean. The service is exceptional. We have never had to ask for anything more than once. Our rooms are always clean and well stocked. ( A few extra dollars go a long way). The food is good, ( and usually a good variety), and the drinks are great. The best drink in the Lobby Bar is the Mudslide and Yan at the Beach Bar serves the best "wow" drink around. We have met many people from around the globe and look forward to seeing them year after year.

Room Tip: Get Building 4, right at the beach!
