My family was here for 6 times now, it was my personal 2nd.
I love this resort for its best beach on Caribbean Sea. I could swim for hours in its clean and warm waters. I love this resort for its great entertainment team on and off the beach.
I love this resort for its ability to make any vacation for my daughter who had been there for 6th times now as the most magical place in Caribbean.
But I also need to be negative about Iberostar service:
French restaurant in this Iberostar sucks big, we had better service in McDonalds in the USA. Food is not French or delicious at all. Hibachi menu has not changed since I was there in 2005, but the service is excellent. The best , most friendly entertainment team in Caribbean who speaks sometimes up to 7 languages.

Also know as Iberostar Bayahibe. We have been staying at Iberostar Resorts for several years and always like the hotels. With the new road, Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus was less than 1 hour from the Punta Cana Airport. This was our first stay at Bayahibe and we found the Resort to be at the same excellent level of facilities, food and service that we expected. We booked this with Apple Vacations and were treated as special guests. The grounds and rooms were very nice and well maintained. The buffet had a wide variety of food with the dinner buffet having something different on the carving table every night. Guests should also appreciate the carved fruits and vegetables that make the food presentation more elegant. We would have liked an “adults only” seating area. The Steak Specialty Restaurant and the Gourmet Restaurant, el Colonial are fantastic. The swimming area has a sandy bottom that is as nice as any we have seen.

We are divers and the La Romana area is known to be the best diving in the Dominican Republic. It is also the easiest diving we had ever done. The water is warm and there was no current. The reefs are very healthy. Dressel Divers is the on site dive operator. They have a very good diver training program and cater to new and less experienced divers. There is one 3 tank “Divers’ Day” per week but it was cancelled the week we were there because we were the only 2 divers that wanted to go. We did the 2 other excursions to Saona and Catalina Islands but would not do them again. They are mainly for guests staying at the Punta Cana resorts who are driven down to Bayahibe for the all day excursions. The dive sites near the resort are just as good and not much different. If you want to dive, you should consider this Iberostar hotel instead of the others in Punta Cana. It is also a good place for kayaks and Hobies because the water is calm.

This is a truly international resort. Most guest were from Europe and were there with their families and small children. And like any other place, some guests do not believe reasonable requests like no smoking in some areas, footwear and shirts required and wet swimwear prohibited in the restaurants, no food on the beach or at the pool, wait to be served, gentlemen must wear long pants to the specialty restaurants, and do not reserve the “hammocks” apply to them. Management did a pretty good job keeping inappropriately attired guests out of the restaurants and refused to seat men if they did not wear long pants and appropriate shoes in the specialty restaurants.

Stayed for a week and can't say this enough, the service and accomodations was spectacular! The place was always in top shape, very quiet and clean. Rooms were large and very comfortable with king size beds. This place looks like paradise with its beautiful landscaping with lake lagoon, exotic trees and birds. Everything in this resort is top quality judging from the decor and architecture. The food was very good if not excellent and the staff is top rated and very friendly. I'm glad I found this resort, beach was not crowed and very clean and private with bar tenders at hand. Loved the pool bar and hot tub. The night shows stole the show for sure. This was indeed top notch! Will want to book again with the family very soon. Conveniently 10 minutes from La Romana International airport, this resort is easily accessible. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: All rooms include a balcony with a great view, however I found it easier to choose a room on the low...

We love this hotel. It has become our second home. We were here this year 11th to 25th July. Flew this time with BA. We love our room to be in block six which is halfway between the beach and the restaurants. We like it quiet so this is perfect for us. The staff make this holiday wonderful. A special mention to Mr. Pozo ( the General Manager), Francisco the sub Director and Johnny from Customer Services. All the staff are very sweet. They feel like your own family. Alberto in the buffet and the steak house has been our waiter for three years! A special mention also to Yan from the beach bar who sometimes has a near impossible job.The food is as good as ever. Try the al a carte restaurants at no extra cost. Look for unlimited lobster if the buffet. Food to suite every pallet. Meat eaters and vegetarians alike. It's not possible to try every drink on the drinks menu, there are too many! Don't forget that a tip here and there goes a long way for the staff. Take plenty of $1 bills. For us this truly a five star holiday and we take many holidays in top resorts. It just gets better and better!

Stayed at the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus with my wife, from 21st June to 5th July, 2014. Had a superb holiday, as good if not better than the previous time we stayed in 2008. The Hotel is set in beautiful grounds, which are immaculately kept. The central feature is a lake with various wildlife in or around it, including flamingos, peacocks, moorhens, ducks and ducklings, turtles etc. Beyond this are welcoming swimming pools with jacuzzi and swim up bar. Then its the to die for beach, with the Caribbean lapping at your feet. The central feature is the beach bar in the form of a lighthouse, stocked with a variety of beverages. There are various restaurants, both buffet style and French/Japanese/Mexican and Steakhouse. The customer service at all the restaurants and bars is exceptional, even with waiter/waitress service for drinks at the buffet style restaurants. The choice, quality and variety of food and drinks is beyond imagination, with an effecient management team, making sure that everything runs smoothly. Our room, located midway between the foyer and beach, had a Kingsize bed, spacious bathroom with bath and shower, with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool. The room was cleaned ever day and decorated with towels in the shape of Swans, Hearts etc. Also the mini bar was replenished with beers, water and soft drinks. Full marks to the chambermaids, who put their heart into cleaning the rooms and shaping the towels! I highly recommend this Hotel. Our next stop for June, 2015 is Jamaica, but who knows the gap of our return might be shorter next time. Thank you to all the staff for making it another Great holiday at the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus.

We stayed there for 11 days AI. Everything was more than OK. Room, bed, restaurants, food (even a little bit too much ;-) The pool and the beach were real OK, too - except the stones - in the wonderful Caribian sea. All staff-people running round were always helpful and extremely friendly. The hotel is about ten years old - what makes quite a tropical charm.

We tried out our first ever Iberostar on a group trip with 3 couples. We had originally looked for an adults-only resort, and although this wasn't that, I'd still recommend it as suitable for adults who don't want to be bothered by kids (while at the same time it appeared to have plenty for kids to do - more on this later).
It was also our first trip to the Dominican Republic, but we have been to various Caribbean destinations in the past. One thing I was not expecting was that this was not a popular "American" tourist spot - so the culture was a bit different than what we'd experienced elsewhere, and there was a language barrier with our English-speaking group and some of the resort employees only speaking Spanish. I have since heard that other parts of the island (i.e. Punta Cana) are more popular American tourist destination spots. This is just a helpful hint for anyone planning their trip, but it's truly to each his own, because we ended up embracing the different feel of this place, and I don't regret passing on Punta Cana for a different experience. (A few days later, I'm still having some trouble shaking the "Spanglish" we grew accustomed to speaking!)

Cleanliness - I have to start with this because it is the first thing I notice, and one of my key criteria for an enjoyable trip.
Grounds: Unfortunately, our first experience after the check-in desk was being brought to our room on a golf cart with our luggage. That could have been fun, except that we were brought a back way down a behind-the-scenes path that resort guests would not otherwise see, and it was littered with trash - plastic cups and other rubbish, and a stench of garbage.
Rooms: Once we got to our room, I felt better since it appeared to be sufficiently clean. The view from our balcony (building 5) was gorgeous, offering a view of the immaculately-kept courtyard area in between all the buildings which all border the resort. With the lush atmosphere there, we were left puzzled as to why they hadn't showcased the beautiful scenery to us on the way to the room instead of bringing us through the dump. I must include a note from one of the other couples on the trip, that they found a used bandaid in their room. Not okay!
Pools: The main pool never felt clean to me, mostly because with all the birds flying overhead, there was constantly bird poop floating around us in the pool. I didn't notice this issue in the volleyball/basketball pool, but other members of our group felt "sticky" after being in that one.
Beach: Looked and felt clean.
Restaurants: Felt sufficiently clean, but at the lunch buffets, often had to grab a plate from middle of the stack to find a clean one...

Food/Restaurants - I never expect great things at an all-inclusive resort as it relates to food. I have stayed at some top, highly rated chains such as Sandals, Beaches, Secrets, and I have yet to be wowed. As expected, the food at Iberostar was average at best. "La Geisha", the hibachi restaurant, was a clear winner for the best food - I think this is true for these restaurants at any all-inclusive, IMO. We also ate at the Mexican restaurant (great appetizer buffet, entrees were just OK), and the steakhouse (appetizer bar and entrees were just OK). We didn't get a chance to eat at the fourth table service restaurant, so I can't speak to that one, but it did look the fanciest, and seemed to have a small menu of more traditional Caribbean food. We ate at the buffet for breakfast each day (as far as I know, that is the only option), and I thought it was pretty gross - but full disclosure, I am picky, and it would take a lot to get me really into any type of buffet. For lunch, it also seemed that our only option was buffet - either the main buffet used for breakfast, or the one at the steakhouse by the pool. Not impressed by the lack of table service resty's for lunch!
Our BIGGEST hangup about the restaurants was the reservation system. It is TERRIBLE! On our first day, we arrived late afternoon and were told that in order to get reservations (which are required) at any of the 4 table service restaurants, we must go, in person, to a reservation desk arbitrarily situated in "building 3" between 8am-2pm to book reservations. As such, we were told our only option for the first night's dinner was the buffet. Umm, what!? So at dinner time, we walked past the row of restaurants and noted that they were half-full, at best. We stopped by guest services with hopes of getting an on-the-spot reservation, and we were told that they were all fully booked for the night. What a lie! We also tried showing up at the restaurants, but there were no hosts/hostesses, and the doors were shut. It was indeed bizarre, and in the end, we gave up and went to the buffet. On the morning of day 2, one in our group went to the reservation desk and attempted to make reservations for the remaining 3 nights and was told he could only make 2 nights of reservations. So on a 4 night trip, we were told we could only eat at two table service restaurants - that's TWO decent meals, and the remaining meals relegated to buffets. Luckily, I was in the market to lose some weight. The tiny bit of saving grace was that on our last day, we stopped by reservations again and were able to finally book a third night of reservations. What a joke!

Rooms - Although as previously mentioned I felt they were clean enough, they were dated, and the bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on.

Beach - This was the best part. I haven't been to any other resort that had such a large swimming area (and there were two), a bar right on the beach, entertainment and games on the beach rather than by the pool, etc. There were always available cabanas and beach chairs, even near each other to accommodate our group of six. The water is gorgeous, and there are even some waves, unlike other places I've been. We spent most of the day each day on the beach/in the water, and it was great.

Water sports - These are pretty limited. Snorkeling excursions are normally included, but at Iberostar it costs extra. We did take advantage of kayaking (which is limited to 1 hour per guest per day), and it was a lot of fun.

Entertainment - Hats off to Iris, our favorite entertainer on the resort! She translated things into English for us, taught us some Spanish, and always sought us out to play the scheduled games. We loved that she remembered our names after meeting us just once, and we truly enjoyed her company each day.
The nighttime entertainment each night at 9:45 at the ampitheater was okay. It was worth checking out each night, but I did miss the more impressive things like fire-dancers that I've seen at other places. We particularly enjoyed the Lion King night.
There is a discoteca that opens each night at 11 with a bar inside, and we were too tired most nights to check it out, but on our last night, we did. It was so much fun! We danced the night away, and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

Staff service - I thought this was just okay. There were great things - i.e. our first room had double beds, and when we asked to switch to a king room, we were moved right away. Iris (as previously mentioned) and some of the other resort daytime entertainment crew were great. The restaurant staff was fine, nothing extra or special, but successfully brought out the drinks we ordered. IMO the bartenders weren't as personable as I would have liked - we had a few that would make "fun" surprise drinks, but also a lot of blank stares or pre-made drinks when we would ask for things like that. The front desk guys were super friendly, but often couldn't answer our questions, so we'd go to guest services or on a wild goose chase to find out the information we needed. Two of the days, we didn't get washcloths left in our room (but they did leave 4 clean towels daily). We also thought it was odd that they only check/restock the mini fridge "once every 2 days".

Note for families - I didn't particularly look into all that was available for the kids, but it seemed like there were a lot of activities to keep the kids busy/entertained. They also included any kids who were guests in the Lion King show we saw, and they were all dressed up with face makeup and the whole shabang.

Miscellaneous notes -
- We were required to wear wristbands for the duration of our stay. This was a bit of an annoyance, as I often wanted to rip it off at the end of the night to shower and go to bed. I'm not sure what the point of the bands was, but I have never had to wear them anywhere else.
- We were given one "towel card" each, which we could trade in for one beach towel at a hut by the pool. The hut closed at 7 each day, but we opted to keep our towels (to wear back to the rooms over our swimsuits) at the end of each day, and trade in the dirty towels each morning for fresh ones. I just found it annoying that we couldn't leave dirty towels in the room and still be allowed to grab fresh ones. One in our group had his towel "stolen" by another guest and went most of the trip without a beach towel. He was told he needed to fill out a report about the missing towel before being issued a new one - seriously?! Again, I've never experienced beach towel stinginess at a resort before.
- Similar to the towels, if we wanted to play pool or ping pong, we had to "check out" the equipment during certain hours and return it. I missed the other resorts that leave the equipment at the respective tables so that we could easily stop by and play. We figured this is just a precaution that was needed due to clientele stealing things, just wasn't my cup of tea since I'm used to being a trusted guest.
- On our first day, local vendors were on the property to sell jewelry and other handmade crafts. This is typical of any resort I've been to in the Caribbean - however, I was appalled by the unnecessary pressure that was put on us to stop by, look at, and buy things. I quickly rushed by all of them and didn't even look - I was annoyed that the resort allowed this type of activity since at other resorts, the vendors were polite and left it up to the guests to stop at their tables. In the past, I have purchased souvenirs from the locals, who weren't hollering at us and forcing it - so here, I did not.
- Wi-fi is available in the large lobby area and lobby bar area for free, but connectivity was hit or miss. Wi-fi in the rooms is available only if you pay, and we did not.
