“Most stunning timeshare”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

This timeshare resort swings both ways - it's a timeshare but feels like a luxury resort and has the best amenities of both.
Positives - service was truly flawless. The Grand Luxxe check in, check out and concierge service was incredible. Room service was impeccable and the golf cart shuttles are driven by the politest most delightful men you will ever have the pleasure to meet. Restaurant servers were always on their game. The pools are gorgeous but we really enjoyed the beach area. While at first glance the sea seems impassable due to rocks it was very easy to navigate past the 10 feet or so of rock and find yourself luxuriating in crystal clear cool water with soft sand underneath and no one else in sight (this was on either side of the large pier). Even though it was roasting hot August, there was always a cool breeze coming off the sea so lying under one of the numerous and usually empty beach palapas was much cooler than sweltering at the Grand Luxxe pool, just a few feet away. Since we were without our kids we decided we wanted a break from cooking this vacation and ate out every meal. We ate and drank like kings for way less cost than we could have back home near DC (and minus the sea view) or an any US resort. I think since each item on the menu by law has to include the tax and service charge at first glance it appears more expensive. If you back out the tax and service charge you will realize the prices aren't that bad. Gym was well equipped and worth the $25 charge for 5 day use.
Neutral - food was usually very good, sometimes just average. Spa was nice but not fantastic. The actual treatment was wonderful and I would go back based on that but the before and after amenities were just so-so. A new Grand Luxxe spa is apparently in the works. While I understand that many are harassed by timeshare sales staff we only received one call politely asking if we'd like to partake to which my husband replied no and that was that.
Negatives - the lack of an adults only area was our only negative. A small adults only pool would have been fantastic since it was teeming with kids during the school vacation

You will never see a timeshare resort like this one! Our Marriott certainly doesn't come close! We'll be back as long as we can keep trading into this gorgeous resort...

Room Tip: Higher floor = more natural light

We stayed in the 3 bedroom and it was wonderful. The concierge people were outstanding. We loved our time there. It was a great family vacation. Glad there were many happy hours as the drinks are a bit pricey, but the best mango margarita I have ever had! We had not complaints and will be back.

Room Tip: If you are looking for ocean views, than the Grand Luxxe is not for you. Maybe the other Mayan reso...

We were guests of family members, who own the timeshare.
I would say this is a 5 star resort (accomodations and quality of restaurants, except for the fish place).

The Asian restaurant and Burger place at Grand Luxxe were an A+. Be ready to pay the BIG bucks. This is not the cheap Mexico that most people expect. Everything in Riviera Maya, including the resort is very pricey. However, you do have the option to buy your own food (take a taxi to Playa del Carmen).

The pools are spectacular.
The service is mostly good, but we ran into some workers with attitudes (the towel people are just rude).

Yes, the resort is huge and you need the golf cart/train to get around, but you get used to it.

The Spa is small and not that impressive, but they are professional and courteous. The massage was OK, but the customer service was outstanding.

The only big complaint I have is about the gal who checked us in. She harassed us every single day to go to a timeshare presentation. She would wait by the exit and constantly asked us to do it. Also, she never mentioned all the activities & events that the resort offered. I found some pamphlets with all that info on the day were going home. Shame!

Overall, you get what you pay for and the Mexicam people are warm and welcoming.

This is the fourth time my family has stayed at the Grand Luxxe in the Rivera Maya. I will say that the accommodations at the resort are very nice. We stayed in a two bedroom suite with a full kitchen. Outside, there is a lovely patio equipped with comfortable furniture and a small pool. Where we stayed (building 2 on the 3rd floor) the view of the jungle was nice, but it was also noisy (I think an air conditioner or some kind of machine). Twice each day, someone comes to the room to tidy it up. Walking around the resort is limited unless you are near the pools or restaurants; that is you are shuttled around in a golf card to get from your room to one place or another.

There are several pools to choose from other than the Grand Luxxe Pool which is in the full sun. The Grand Mayan pool is designed to wind around jungle flora and have little hide-away cabanas. In my opinion, the Grand Mayan pool is the best pool on the property. They did offer a Happy Hour at the pool during the afternoon.

There are several restaurants, but they are not open every day so it would be important to check the schedule. For example, the Gong Restaurant was closed on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant at the Grand Luxxe Pool closed at 5 PM. Only two of the restaurants are air conditioned, so if you go to the resort when the weather is hot, you will want to learn about the schedule. Also, the air conditioned restaurants take reservations, so that is something else to plan for.

The people who provide service are very helpful and I would rate them very high on service. The Grand Luxxe is within reach of many attractions and places such as Xcaret, Akumal Beach, and Chichen Itza (one of the new 7 Wonders of the World).

Room Tip: Choose a room with a high floor so you will have a view above the jungle. While this property has be...

We have purchased and upgraded to the Grand Luxxe Spa Towers Residence Club and were moved in to the Towers. What a fabulous experience. The 3 bedroom villa is wonderfully apportioned with even your own private spa treatment room. The cleaning staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Small attention to detail and making our stay enjoyable was greatly appreciated. The concierge staff at Tower Three were stunning. I have never encountered such helpful and friendly concierge staff. Nothing was too much effort for them. Their recommendations for things to do and restaurants to try in Playa and on the estate were really appreciated and great. We had a very pleasant stay and enjoyable time.

The only negative aspect to mention but it does not relate to the Residence Club experience but to the sales staff at the resort. Ensure you stay away and definitely avoid the sales team at the sales office. Your holiday would absolutely be spoilt if you decide to engage with them. Have in all my many years of travel experience never encountered such a bunch of incompetent, dishonest and misrepresenting sales people as you will encounter at the resort. You can't believe a thing they tell you and you have to review every detail of their presentation to you, beware! I actually do not know what to propose if you want to consider a further investment or change to your program with the resort as you can not rely on the sales staff to assist you truthfully and with integrity.

Room Tip: It appeared it did not matter where your unit was. Higher up means less noise from neighbors on top...

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful week with our family at the Grand Luxxe - Riviera Maya. It was our very first time staying in these luxurious accommodations after having upgraded from the Grand Mayan a couple of years ago. We were fortunate to get a second floor unit in Building 1 (which is currently where you check-in and also contains the travel agency for planning your excursions). Because we were traveling with 4 other adults, we upgraded to the Luxxe Master Villa which combines the Luxxe Villa with the Luxxe Junior Villa. The Luxxe Junior Villa provided enough privacy for both our sons and daughters-in-law; one couple took the bedroom, while the other set up the living area as the 3rd bedroom. The overall Luxxe Master Villa was more than spacious (3,140 sq.ft.) and impeccably clean especially having maid service twice a day. Our only complaint was with the Wi-Fi service. Our connection in the room was poor, yet drastically improved around the Grand Luxxe pool area.

The staff was very professional and always eager to help. Due to the Luxxe buildings being situated in the "jungle," the use of their shuttles to get around the complex is preferred and they come very frequently; walking is not recommended as the roads are very narrow. It is my understanding that boardwalks will eventually be built such as the one that connects the Mayan Palace pool area with the Grand Luxxe pool. Also, a new Grand Luxxe lobby is currently being built.

The beach is usually everyone's biggest complaint as it is very rocky due to the coral. Although we are not "beach people," we were happy to see some changes being made. Two additional piers were being constructed and the coral is finally in the process of being covered with sand. In addition, a new beach club and restaurant are also in the construction phase.

The restaurants on-site are all excellent and the prices are comparable to what we would spend back in the States. We also enjoyed the swim-up bars, taking full advantage of the daily Happy Hours (2 for 1) and drink-of-the-day!

The grounds throughout the entire complex are impeccable! Walkways are constantly being cleaned; bushes pruned; grass cut; flowers blooming! Just absolutely beautiful!!

We were also excited to go on a tour of the construction area of where the new Cirque de Soleil will be. Completion is scheduled for November.

I could go on and on raving about how wonder it is to vacation here; suffice it to say that we love it SOooo much, my husband and I upgraded yet again to the Spa Tower! Here's looking forward to our next vacation!!!

Room Tip: Building 1 on the 2nd or 3rd floor is more desirable

We stayed here during the Thanksgiving holiday last year in 2013. We stayed in a one bedroom at the Grand Luxxe, and the room was 5 star. Lots of granite stone nice cabinets nice bedding and a really nice plunge pool on the balcony. The kitchen was very nice as well as it was for a gourmet cook.

We used the beach on the property, but many swimming pools on the property and ate at several of the restaurants on site , including Mayan Palace, the Grand Mayan, and Bliss resorts. Everything about the resort was fantastic and the staff is very nice. The Grand Luxxe rooms are some distance away from the pools and restaurants, although you can walk, much easier to take the golf cart shadows that run every five or ten minutes to where you want to go. It seems quite a bit of hassle in the beginning, but after a day or two you get quite used to using the shuttle.

The Grand Luxxe as a dedicated concierge to arrange for visits to various attractions in the area, help you book tours and arrange transportation for you in the area. Side note, if you to take the taxi or the shuttle from within the property to where you want to go, there is a fixed price for that. You may find it cheaper to take a taxi if you to take the shuttle to the front gate and then flag down a taxi to where you want to go. It will be much much cheaper. But there will be no shuttle to bring you back from the gate of the property to the main lobby of the property, as it will be about a 10 to 15 minute walk but it will save you money. It will be cheaper to even take the micro bus from the front of the property to where are you want to go. I would recommend that you make one or two trips into Playa del Carmen, which is the biggest City nearby, to buy your groceries in other kitchen essentials because it will be much cheaper than buying it from the small market on the resort property. For tipping, although it is optional, we found that it is definitely a wait for the workers to supplement their income. The workers are very friendly and courteous, so we did find ourselves tipping quite frequently. My recommendation is that you if you plan to tip frequently, bring plenty of one dollar bills and tip $2 or $3 at a time. The workers will definitely appreciate it

Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, and we are planning to come back in May of 2015 because we enjoyed it so much.
