Good bits: Staff, never seen such friendly staff from concierge to waiters and pool waiters first class. Rooms were spacious and kept immaculate, the grounds which were massive, fantastic attention to detail. Mexican and Fuentes good food, Italian also good standard
Average points, the food, if you can get any that is at Kampai and Santa Fe, Kempia arrogant Staff
Bad points, trying to get a meal reservation, my swim up pool was a cave, always in the shade as most were, built, west facing, complete waste of money, transport around the resort, the resort is huge we were in the 5000 range some restaurants were a mile away and our end was left wanting, waited an hour 1 day and made 3 calls trying to get buggy. The beach was on some occasions pretty grubby brochure pictures do it justice. My biggest gripe was trying to get reservations for restaurants at best we could only get ours at around 6.00, tea time their is a 2 tier system at this resort those "who have" those who "have not" we were unaware of the time share aspect when we booked and treated so, every time we tried to book reservations for later 8 ish (the computer said no) What was really gaoling was the empty tables time after time and guests were still being turned away!!! The Cocotal restaurant in the evening, a tiny buffet restaurant was disgusting on the 1st night after trying to get a meal after 2.5 hours and 4 restaurants we went there, the trays were empty and dirty, choice minimal.
I see great reviews from the past few weeks, they must have stayed in "the have's" my holiday cost £4800 for 10 days we changed from Secrets Maroma from our last time in Mexico, big mistake!
I rate this resort at about 6 /10 it could easily have been 9/10 but being from the "have not" end of the resort, it lacked, it frustrated, it infuriated, but at times it impressed.

Room Tip: Get a room in the 4000 range built south facing upgrade if you can to the Casitas and Haggle keep aw...

Been meaning to write a review for ages but just want to say we had an amazing stay with you in June 2012. Our room (4422) was spacious, with an amazing bed and well stocked mini bar. The staff were helpful and pleasant and the food in all restaurants surpassed our expectations. This was a truly Gourmet Inclusive experience. The drinks in The Martini Lounge were the best in the hotel, Rincon is a hidden gem (for lunch and dinner), and D'italia was our favourite place to eat.

Big shout out to Angel, Arturo and Osmanny – legends.

If/when we return to this part of Mexico, there is no question as to where we will be staying.

Room Tip: 4422 was a newly refurbished room, with a nice view.

We had a wonderful stay at El Dorado Royale, we wish we have planned to stay a few more days. A big shout out/thank you to Rachel Dillow with Beach Bum Vacations, she organized a perfect trip for us. Her suggestion of this property was spot on and she helped us with some extra reservations, such as a candlelight dinner on the beach. Our stay was more enjoyable due to her assistance.

The Resort was beautiful, grounds were well maintained and service was outstanding! We have both been in the hospitality business for 20+ years and were impressed of the positive attitude and service level of the staff. Because of a short 4 night stay, we did not do any excursions off property, but simply enjoyed the Resort and amenities, such as:
*Yoga on the beach front - perfect spot for it
*Sky Massage on the beach front
*Drinks at the beach bar, we loved the swings
*Tequila Tasting, very interesting and educational
*Pool Volleyball
*Beach cabana/tiki hut for two days
*Casino Night/with band (show on Sunday night)
*Snorkeling, most of the fish are in the shallow water
*Green house tour

There were plenty of pools and the beach front was lovely (the geotextiles were not that bad). You do have to snag a beach cabana fairly early, we got ours between 7am-8:30am. And it was awesome that there was a drink server on the beach. We discovered the Las Fuentes pool a few days into our stay and that seemed to be the more active, fun pool, which we enjoy! The Activities staff hold a lot of games and activities there.

There was a good variety of restaurants, although I have read about the challenges of getting in from other's reviews. We had a few reservations and then walked in a few other restaurants We did not experience the same challenges, luckily. We enjoyed the gourmet food and high level of service, but was happy with some normal casual food by the end of our stay. Our favorites were Jo Jo's, La Cabana Pizzeria, Rincon Mexicano and our candlelight dinner. Cocatal worked great for us for breakfast. We wanted to try La Isla, but there was usually a line, so a quick buffet at Cocotal was great. Previous reviews regarding small portions was right on the money for the dinner restaurants, with the exception of Rincon. They served larger portions there, so don't over order like we did :). The selection of liquor and fun drinks at the bars throughout the Resort, was top of the line.

Lastly, I greatly appreciated their Sustainability measures, I think it is very important.

We would return to this Resort, we had a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Our room was in the 14 block and was a great central location to everything. We only had one issue...

The El Dorado Royale resort was a beautifully maintained resort. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The rooms/accommodations were very nice as well - nice size, clean. There were plenty of bars (both swim up and regular) and plenty of cabanas at the pools and beach. They don't do a good job of explaining on their website is how large the property is. It is spread out over a mile long - so definitely be prepared to do some walking. They did luckily provide golf cart shuttle service around the property which helped.

But there were a few major disappointments that would not take my husband and I back there again. First, the beach. It was very rocky, which made it hard to go in and enjoy the water. A few of the days we were there, it was also very dirty - as if someone shredded a bag of garbage in it. And there was no staff even attempting to clean it out.

But the biggest downfall was the wait time at the restaurants. The food itself was very good, and breakfast and lunch were not a problem. However, every night for dinner there was over an hour wait - no matter what time you go and no matter which one of the 8 restaurants you chose to go to. But what's even more aggravating than that is that there would be empty tables and they would still not seat you! We believed the kitchen to be completely understaffed or the restaurants that poorly mismanaged. Either way it is totally unacceptable when you have paid a nice chunk of money to stay at an all-inclusive resort. We appreciated that it was their busiest time of the year, but they knew everyone staying there would be eating dinner, and they need to make sure that they can feed/accommodate everyone.

All in all, it was an average resort. I wouldn't go back - especially considering the amount of choices of other resorts in the area.

Room Tip: A lot of the rooms on the first floors have the swim up pool to their patio door (which I'm sure...

Unfortunately, what was mostly a great trip, was nearly ruined by the dismissive, argumentative front desk help.

Day 1- Arrived around 2 to enjoy some sun our first day there. Check in isn't until 3. First thing we were greeted with was a pitch to try and convince us to move to another hotel down the beach "Generattions". We had heard about this prior to going, so we knew to decline. We were given drinks while we waited which was great. During our wait we scheduled an outing through Lomas Travel to go on waverunners and snorkel. Went to get our room keys at 3, were told "30 more minutes", went up at 3:30, were told "30 more minutes, went up at 4, were told "not ready yet. At 2 all lunch restuarants were open, at 4 only one was. They had our luggage so we couldn't change. We didn't make it to our room until 430 without the ride we were supposed to get, went to eat quickly because we were starving, by time we were done concierge was gone.

Had dinner that night and went to bed early because we were exhausted after getting up at 3 that morning to get to resort early. Quickly fell asleep only to be awakened by a worker at the resort walking into the room. Obviously this was a bit unsettling being in a foreign country and somebody can just walk right in at night.

Day 2: We were to meet the group that provided our ride at 9 to plan our ride back to the airport on our departure day. We stopped at the concierge to inform them of the person walking into our room. They said it was probably turn down service and not to worry. A common theme was these people in the lobby just don't care about making things pleasant. Kind of a "just deal with it" attitude which became frustrating over, and over, and over again. We met the group to give us our ride home and told him we had an excursion planned. He informed us the group we went through did not have insurance and they over charge. The receipt Lomas Travel gave us had a cancellation policy for a full refund if you cancel prior to 11 the day before. We went to cancel to be greeted by a 45 minute argument in the lobby and out in front of the hotel. He said I wasn't sick and didn't have a doctors note, so I couldn't cancel. Finally, I went to the front desk, the lady there got into a brief discussion with him and allowed me to cancel. I had to sign documents to cancel. I requested copies because Lomas Travel ensured me they would still bill my room. The front desk would not give me copies, luckiliy I had my phone to take pictures of these receipts.

The rest of the day was finally the relaxation we had hoped for. The restaurants we ate at were great, the help on the beach and at the bars was awesome! The beach itself was very relaxing and the cabanas are ideal.

After an enjoyable afternoon, we returned to our room to find our key didn't work. I made the walk up to the lobby, was given 2 more keys, returned to room, keys didn't work again. Made the trek back to the lobby, given 2 more keys, once again returned to room to find that these keys didn't work either. Made the walk back to the lobby, finally they sent security to get us into our room.

Day 3: Excursion day! We showed up in front of the lobby to be picked up at 8:15. A van pulls up, says our last name. We give him our receipt for the excursion telling where we're supposed to go and what we're supposed to do. We confirm with him verbally 3 times. We get on the shuttle for a ride which was supposed to be 10-15 minutes. As we are going down the road we start talking to others on the shuttle and they're all going to a different excursion 2 hours away. We asked the driver about this, he said "yes, it's ok because we're going to a bus stop and we'll all go separate ways". Alright, so we check what bus others were supposed to get on and one group was supposed to get on and it was the same as ours. Luckily we tried talking to driver again and in that time his boss got ahold of him to let him know he left the other couple at the hotel. So, they sped us back to the hotel (we thought to try and get us to our excursion) dropped us off and said they'd pick us up in 10 minutes. That was just a blatant lie as nobody was coming, he was there to get the other couple with a similar last name to ours.

Ultimately, our excursion was moved to 1:45 that afternoon, this was fine except for the fact it was now 1030, half our morning was wasted on a bus going nowhere.

This is where the luck of our trip finally changes. We went to talk to our personal concierge, Carlos. Carlos was AWESOME, he was the first person to actually listen to us and seem genuinely interested in helping us. Due to the long list of frustrations we'd had, he called the chief concierge Mariana, she also, was absolutely FANTASTIC. Once again, another person who truly seemed to care. She apologized repeatedly, gave us free wi-fi and a candlelight dinner to make the trip a bit more enjoyable.

Day 4: Our first, nearly perfect, stress free day. Relaxing day on the beach, wonderful food at the restaurants, no arguing. Day ended with a great show by a Michael Jackson impersonator which was really fun.

Day 5: The day we left, a short, but fun, relaxing day on the beach prior to departure.

Our favorite restauants on the resort were Rincon Mexicana and Kampai. The food and the help at Rincon were phenomenal, beginnning with one of the managers, Xavier. He made us feel like regulars and treated us with a smile every time we were there. He and his help were just great!

Take away the dealings with the front desk and Lomas travel and the trip would have been excellent. Unfortunately, those experiences have soured our view on the trip and this hotel in particular. If we could avoid them, we'd go back for sure, right now, we'd have to reconsider knowing there's great hotels up and down the coast to choose from.

Where do I start? Best feature is the staff. Everyone from the concierge to the grounds keepers make you feel welcome. Grounds from Villas to the Casitas were BEAUTIFUL! I know that to Americans a concierge can seem like a luxury you don't need, but Cece and Alejandro made our trip truly special by handling simple dinner RSVP's, spa appointments, and they coordinated the most special feature of our trip; A Chef's dinner at D'Italia Casitas where we had a private table overlooking the kitchen and enjoyed a 7 course meal prepared exclusively for us by Chef William - WHAT A TREAT!!! Book a "Sky Massage" - Liz and Enrique were outstanding! You cannot beat ocean breezes and the natural sound of waves crashing on the shore with an early morning massage. This was so nice my husband and I scheduled another spa day at the Casita's where I enjoyed at 2 hour Cocoa & Coconut pampering - oh my gosh, what a treatment (thank you Luis)!

My husband and I have been to the Cancun/Riviera Maya area 10+ times; it's easy - direct flight and accommodations are great everywhere. Yet, this trip exceeded our expectations. The gourmet food plan makes every restaurant on the resort an excellent option.
Our room was a garden view - loved it! Saw the beautiful rooms with the lazy river passing by; they were nice, but must confess we loved our room and the shade it afforded when we'd had to much sun. The Eco-friendly coral reef's installed in the beach allow you to swim safely if salt water is your things plenty of pool space if it isn't. Yoga on the pier was delightful!!
This is a great romantic get away that will leave you feeling refreshed.

Room Tip: If hanging out at the pool all day if why you go, splurge and get a room on the last river. Staying...

Four couples celebrating our big birthdays traveled to Eldorado Royale for 5 days. We found all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was in the 53 building and was very clean, all the amenities needed. sometimes it was a long walk if no shuttles came around, but I found that I did a lot of walking which was not a bad thing!
The pools were so nice, the big one in the middle of the resort was a bit crowded, so we just moved on to the next one and was never without a space to put our stuff. The swim up bars are the best and all the bartenders are great with the drinks, which are not in small cups. the beach sofas are awesome! The beach is not the cleanest or the area great to swim, but is still beautiful! The restaurants are not geared for groups, which ours was 8. We often had to wait or could not get a table, but we were persistent and often found something somewhere. Every meal was so delicious, especially Santa Fe Grill and the Italian in the casitas.

Room Tip: the resort is very big, so the middle buildings put you in the best area.

Dear Mcgon.

We want to thank you for sharing your feedback about our hotel on TripAdvisor. Allow me express my gratitude for taking the time to write about your stay at our premises.

I have read your comments and certainly we are taking seriously your feedback and I see possibilities to improve, in fact we are already working on them, because as you know the hotel is designed for couples, adults only, that is why sometimes because of the occupancy we find kind of difficult to accommodate groups with more than 4 and 6 people in one table or one restaurant at the same time, as we want to avoid harming other guests rights.

Our customers´ opinions and suggestions are really crucial in the process of improving our performance so we thank your valuable comments which undoubtedly help us take a step forward in terms of client´s satisfaction.

We hope you give us the opportunity to welcome you back on your next visit to the Riviera Maya at El Dorado Royale, a Spa Resort by Karisma in order to make your stay a memorable one.
