“Amazing Vacation”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

My wife and I recently spent 10 days at the El Dorado Royale, and I can honestly say that we didn't want to come home. We stayed in in the 5200 block of room, which is as far away as you can get, so be prepare to do some walking. We had a swim-up suite with access to the new quieter pool as well as the Fuentes pool. Maggie and Julio at the new Sensi Mar pool were absolutely amazing. They made us feel welcome every morning and provided excellent service. We did have to get up early to reseverve the cabana beds, but it was well worth it. I have seen in other reviews that other guests had trouble with wait times for food. That was not our experience. We were able to make reservations for Santa Fe and Las Fuentes with out a problem. The longest wait we had for the other restaurants was maybe 25-30 minutes. We also had a wonderful candle light dinner on the beach for our anniversary. I highly recommend upgrading to the lobster menu.
This resort is very large so be prepared to do a lot of walking. The paths are not very well lit, so you have to know where you are going in the evenings.
All in all, this was an awesome vacation and we hope to return again!

Room Tip: Suim up suites are very convenient. The 5200 block of rooms are away from the noise, so they are ni...

We visited here for 2 weeks from 15th to 28th September. We stayed in a jacuzzi junior suite which was very nice & conveniently located for main hotel bars, restaurants & pools. We had originally planned on booking a swim up suite but decided to spend our money on a longer stay instead, we didn't feel like we missed out by booking the 'basic' room as it was lovely & had everything u needed. Staff were helpful & friendly, Alfredo in the pizzeria & Daniela who seated us in a few restaurants were especially nice.
We spent most of our time at la Isla Pool, we managed to get a cabana bed most days without rushing down early. The bar/restaurant here was closed for refurb for the first week but there was so much else going on that it didn't matter. La Fuentes pool was good also but much louder & livelier. We loved the Mexican restaurant & Pizziera for lunch, Italian was nice for dinner although the first time we went our meals were crap - must have had a different chef. Jojo's & the adjoining bar were cool. We tried about 20 different cocktails & they do not skimp on the alcohol.
We walked up past the casitas a few times & saw the turtle nests, the crocodiles hid every time we went for a look! There were loads of different types of lizards which was cool & I liked spotting the different creatures around the hotel.
There was quite a bit of building work going on whilst we were there but it was well away from our room & didn't affect us at all, I think I would have been disappointed if we had been in the casitas section as it was quite loud down that end of the hotel.
The beach was lovely, we didn't find the sand bag reefs offensive at all & we saw loads of tiny fish in the shallows. We had a couples massage by the beach which was nice but the spa people do walk round trying to poach people all the time even after you have been, they also have a compulsory service charge on top of the treatment price. We went parasailing which was fun & booked two excursions to Xel Ha & Xplor. The trips were very well organised & fun although it rained the whole day at Xel Ha.
We tipped the staff quite a lot but not every time & only for good service, didn't feel like we got a lesser standard of service if we didn't tip.
All in all a fantastic hotel, we would recommend it to people. At a push the only criticism I could come up with were the golf buggies travel quite fast & made me jump quite frequently and the room was a bit damp on occasion.

It's hard to completely summarize our vacation at El Dorado Royale, but I'll do my best. We stayed for five nights to attend our friends' wedding at the resort. Everything was arranged by VIP Vacations, and I would highly recommend their services.

Accommodations

We stayed in one of the swim-up Jacuzzi junior suites (room 417; our room was on the second floor, so we couldn't actually swim up to the room). The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Our philosophy on vacation is that we don't want to spend all of our time in the room, so this served its purpose of being a great place to recharge. The room was well air-conditioned, and the mini-bar was restocked each day.

Pools

We spent the majority of our time at the pool. The activities pool (next to Fuentes restaurant) was very fun, if you are looking for a louder, more active environment. We spent a few days at the Sensi Mar pool (near El Rincon Mexicano) which was much more relaxing. Almost every pool has a swim-up bar, and the service is very friendly. We particularly enjoyed interacting with Maggy at the Sensi Mar pool.

Restaurants

All of the food we had throughout the trip was very good, but some things in particular stood out. The breakfast at El Rincon Mexicano was great; traditional breakfast food with a Mexican angle. The other big standout was D'Italia for dinner. We ate dinner here on our last night and immediately wished we had eaten there other nights as well. The food was the best we had the entire trip, and the service was fantastic (thanks to Armin).

Know going into any dining experience that if you want to grab a quick bite and run to something else, it's not going to happen. We found that in the mornings, we wanted to get a quick bite and get to the pool, so La Isla served as the perfect place (they have a buffet continental breakfast).

Resort

The rest of the resort was simply amazing. The grounds are incredibly clean and well-maintained. I loved all of the environmental efforts that the resort is making. Also, the service from everyone at the resort was simply amazing.

This was simply the most relaxing vacation, and we couldn't have asked for a better time. I would highly recommend spending time at El Dorado Royale!

Room Tip: Rooms in buildings 1-13 have a good location that makes it easy to get to everything in the resort.

Due to the ineptness of our travel agent we arrived too early to get a room. Instead of telling us to change and hit the beach we were asked to check into the new resort they just opened. While considering it, they said the magic word "family" and that was all it took for us to politely say no, thank you. And we had to keep saying it daily. We have reared our children and wanted to stay at a luxury place where no screaming children ran around or spoiled a lovely dinner. We couldn't get anyone to understand that. We did get an upgraded room, because there really isn't an ocean view suite, too many palm trees or grass roofed huts in the way. My husband is an early riser and was able to snag a hut on the beach, but the water has a lot of trash in it. They control the trash by digging a huge hole in the sand and putting all the trash in it and recovering the hole. The sand bags spoil the view and it's very rocky. The room was wonderful except for the window in the toilet room that lets too much light in every night. No where to get sand off your feet, so we had sand all over the room. No mats, except near the bed. We had the anniversary package and the room was always made beautiful and the bed was decorated every night. That was lovely. Food was great. We had the candlelight dinner on the beach and had the honor of hearing a sax player. It was so funny when he started playing All By Myself for all the couples eating on the beach that night. We had a good time, and were taken care of by excellent people. The breakfast buffet was my favorite because I had guacamole for breakfast every day. This was the second all inclusive resort we've visited in Mexico and it did not measure up to the first.

Room Tip: Building 2 was close to the health bar, salt pool and ocean and away from the big pool that the youn...

Good bits: Staff, never seen such friendly staff from concierge to waiters and pool waiters first class. Rooms were spacious and kept immaculate, the grounds which were massive, fantastic attention to detail. Mexican and Fuentes good food, Italian also good standard
Average points, the food, if you can get any that is at Kampai and Santa Fe, Kempia arrogant Staff
Bad points, trying to get a meal reservation, my swim up pool was a cave, always in the shade as most were, built, west facing, complete waste of money, transport around the resort, the resort is huge we were in the 5000 range some restaurants were a mile away and our end was left wanting, waited an hour 1 day and made 3 calls trying to get buggy. The beach was on some occasions pretty grubby brochure pictures do it justice. My biggest gripe was trying to get reservations for restaurants at best we could only get ours at around 6.00, tea time their is a 2 tier system at this resort those "who have" those who "have not" we were unaware of the time share aspect when we booked and treated so, every time we tried to book reservations for later 8 ish (the computer said no) What was really gaoling was the empty tables time after time and guests were still being turned away!!! The Cocotal restaurant in the evening, a tiny buffet restaurant was disgusting on the 1st night after trying to get a meal after 2.5 hours and 4 restaurants we went there, the trays were empty and dirty, choice minimal.
I see great reviews from the past few weeks, they must have stayed in "the have's" my holiday cost £4800 for 10 days we changed from Secrets Maroma from our last time in Mexico, big mistake!
I rate this resort at about 6 /10 it could easily have been 9/10 but being from the "have not" end of the resort, it lacked, it frustrated, it infuriated, but at times it impressed.

Room Tip: Get a room in the 4000 range built south facing upgrade if you can to the Casitas and Haggle keep aw...

Been meaning to write a review for ages but just want to say we had an amazing stay with you in June 2012. Our room (4422) was spacious, with an amazing bed and well stocked mini bar. The staff were helpful and pleasant and the food in all restaurants surpassed our expectations. This was a truly Gourmet Inclusive experience. The drinks in The Martini Lounge were the best in the hotel, Rincon is a hidden gem (for lunch and dinner), and D'italia was our favourite place to eat.

Big shout out to Angel, Arturo and Osmanny – legends.

If/when we return to this part of Mexico, there is no question as to where we will be staying.

Room Tip: 4422 was a newly refurbished room, with a nice view.
