“Anniversary trip”
Reviewed 27 April 2014 via mobile

We went for our 7th Anniversary and had been there on our honeymoon. It was even better this time! We love the individual casita suits. The staff is so friendly. The food is wonderful! Every morning you'll see people out there keeping the grounds clean and straightening up. We had a waiter at the La Isla restaurant named Fernando that went out of his way after work to get us horchata. I asked if any of the restaurants had it because the place that did seven years ago was no longer there. He said to come back the next day and he'd have it. He kept his promise! He did it twice for us and gave us a bag of the mix to take home. So awesome! They now have a new addition called Generations that is family friendly (just opened about seven weeks ago) and we plan to take our kids there next year!

We visited El Dorado Royale at the end of March 2014 for 16 nights. The resort is in a wonderful location fronting on to a mile of Caribbean beach. The grounds seem just like a golf course, with wonderfully tended lawns with the odd patch of sand and swimming warning flags looking just like golf flags. I am disabled and have to say there is little to help the disabled in the resort - no lifts(elevators) and few ramps. Luckily I can walk a little and managed steps which had handrails like at the Santa Fe restaurant. We had some problems early in the holiday because housekeeping staff came into our room while we were out at dinner and made a mess of our room. With the help of the head concierge, the lovely Mariana, we discovered that this was the turn down service, which she arranged to stop and we had few further problems although it was disconcerting that housekeeping staff had moved our belongings around. The resort operates a GI(Gourmet Inclusive) regime which applies to dress code and standard of dining. We chose not to add to this offering eg by buying better wines and we found the choice of three red wines and two whites in every restaurant to be acceptable, indeed much better than at other all-inclusive resorts we have visited. The dress code is confusing though. The guide book in the room directly contradicted that in some of the restaurants - particularly JoJos. We found the cuisine a little strange .At the supposed Mediterranean restaurant, La Isla, refried beans were served with everything

We had a ground floor swim-up room, which was very good. It included an in-room jacuzzi and opened out to a sun terrace and swimming area. The view from the terrace was like over a park/zoo, with colourful birds and iguanas. We also saw a local raccoon -like mammal called a Coati. We were told there were tarantulas in the grass and my wife saw one that was asleep.

The weather was great. Hot and sunny but a bit windy at times

All in all we had a great time.

Room Tip: we enjoyed our swim-up/ lazy river room

Dear NorthamptonCayenne,
It has been a real pleasure to read your recent review. I am very pleased that our Chief Concierge Mariana took care of the situation with housekeeping, of course this is a service provided to all guests. In the case that you do not require the service it can be cancel with the personal concierge. As a Gourmet all inclusive our menus are ala cart therefore the restaurants are design to be like a casual elegant night full of romantic ambience to pamper all senses.

Hoping to welcome you once again in the sunny caribbean

Warm regards

We stayed at El Dorado Casitas in April 2014 we were greeted with champagne , cold face cloths and a very warm welcome. The room was very comfortable, really clean ,a very comfortable bed and a nicely stocked fridge. The food was very good and really well presented.
The waiters ,barmen and beach butlers always went that extra bit to help.Alvaro at Casitas swim up bar always had the biggest smile everydayRamiro our beach butler was always so polite and would do anything he could to make your day special, bringing us little treats throughout the day.
All we could say is that we had an amazing holiday .

Well, where to start...first I got engaged @ this resort (so already special from the start). Then we booked 80 of our friends there for our amazing wedding on the beach 4/4/14. We absolutely love this resort and we travel through Jaimi with beachbumvacation.com, she is awesome. We plan on returning next April for our first anniv. and then discussed returning maybe every 5 years. The resort itself is beautiful, the food is absolutely amazing (for a picky eater this is HUGE), and the staff is great always willing to help in any way. We always stay in the casitas side, it is worth the upgrade, but even the royale side is super nice but the outdoor shower and little extras the casitas offer are worth it (plus private pools per sections).

We could not have asked for more staying at El Dorado, from start to finish it was perfect!

Travelling from Manchester with Thomson, we arrived mid afternoon to be greeted by friendly staff who took our bags and checked us in as a group downstairs, accompanied by champagne and canapés! This was an easy process so didn't take long, we then were taken by a bellboy on a golf buggy to our ocean view room! As honeymooners our room was decorated with a welcome sign, the bed was covered in flowers and champagne was waiting on ice by the jacuzzi bath- all super nice touches!! It was always clean and the mini bar stocked!

We were situated next to the healthy bar and pool (serves smoothies juices and healthy lunches) and right opposite the beach- recommended for its spacious sun beds, bar staff service and the breeze- it gets very hot by the pools! The activities staff (hello to Omar, Christian etc) also run beach volley ball and 'soccer' everyday which is fun if you fancy some friendly competition with the Americans!!! You can also rent snorkels and bikes daily for an hour to enjoy the beach and resort.

Most breakfasts we either used room service (included in all-inclusive and a wide range if options) or at La Isla which offered a continental buffet as well as a full a la carte breakfast menu from pancakes, to eggs, to Mexican breakfast dishes.

Lunch times we often frequented the pizzeria next to the main pool at la Isla, it gave yummy mini pizzas, nachos, salads, burgers and hotdogs. The portions were small but to be honest more than enough for lunch if you get a starter between you. Wine, beer and other drinks always on offer. And the staff were always cheery and happy to help! La Isla was also good for lunch, as again they offered the starter buffet which provided lovely salads etc.

We tried many restaurants in the evenings the best were;
-Rincon mexicana- the staff were fantastic here, especially Elmer who could not have done more for us!! Loved him! Food was lovely, make sure you try the 3 milks cake!! Yum!
-Santa Fe Grill- you have to book in here, but it's worth it, go for a drink in the Bellini bar before and then enjoy the range of tapas style dishes they bring you as a starter and then lovely Argentinian style grill options for mains! Great service here too, although it gets busy so it can take time- we weren't in a rush :)
-Kampai- Asian style restaurant in beautiful surroundings, had to wait around an hour to be seated but were given a pager and sent to the local bar (not complaining :D ) food was delicious!

While here here we also were lucky enough to enjoy a candle lit beach dinner (is free if you are on honeymoon) and it was a lovely experience, it was also our one week anniversary and we were sent more champagne to our room (and a rose petal bath was run while we were out!!)
We also booked a massage though the on site spa services, up on the sky platform overlooking the beach- was beautiful and well worth the money!

Trips we enjoyed included snorkelling with turtles in a local bay and in a cenote (massively recommended!), the Captain Hook trip ( so much fun!!), and Coco bongos (a must!!!)

The pools were lovely and all the bars were fun and well staffed- all drinks including branded were included and the cocktails were fab- try the mud slide!!!

Everybody gets their own personal concierge which is a lovely touch, as they can boom your restaurants and help you with anything you may need- thank you Elizabeth and Jorge!

We couldn't have asked for more from this hotel- friendly staff, great entertainment, gorgeous food and beautiful environments! Thank you for everything, fingers crossed we will be back!! Lee and Allana xxx

We also stayed at El Dorado in Feb. 2012 but were upgraded to the Casita side then. This time, we got the cheapest room we could. IT WAS STILL AMAZING. The room seemed to be newly upgraded and was super spacious. It was fairly close to the lobby but not on the main path (room 0901). It was quiet and beautiful. The bed was comfortable, the mini fridge regularly stocked, and room service was prompt.
This time we made reservations at Fuentes, the culinary theater, for dinner on our last night (do it through your concierge, and look at the menu since it is set but different depending on what night of the week it is) and we found Paul the wine guy. We love Paul the wine guy! All of the restaurants are fantastic but I absolutely think you should try Fuentes. It is the only one that requires a reservation. For lunch, be sure to get a pizza at the swimming pool and try the health bar. YUM.
It was a joy to see the sea life creating a new world on the sandbags. It is starting to look like a mini reef, much more so than at our last visit. We bought cheap snorkels and masks from the gift shop and spent several afternoons chasing fish. I can't wait to see what it has developed into next time we come.
Bars. You can never have too many bars. Our favorites include the Beach bar and the Martini bar. The beach bar has a fantastic breeze and you can see the cruise ships sailing in the distance at night. The martini bar has some higher end spirits (all bars have top shelf) and we may have had a tad too much there.
We didn't pay for extras. No candlelight dinner, no massages, nothing. You don't need them (sorry, El Dorado, I tell it like it is). We still had an amazing time and can't wait to go back.
