“overall - good review”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

El Dorado Royale is one of the most beautiful resorts we have ever experienced. And I have been to several resorts
Entering the lobby is amazing ... a large pool in the center of the huge room. The arorma in the room is inviting (we bought the room spray they use ... even the bath rooms smelled wonderful.
The Outside Grounds are amazing. Simply beautiful !!!
The ground maintainence staff deserves many kudos ... and a significant raise in salary. They make this resort!!!
The Rooms were clean and comfortable, good bed with bedding ... I appreciate the hard working house keeping staff. Compared to other resorts, the rooms were just nice.
Every section had an conciere - very nice and most helpful
Dining - the food was wonderful and great wait staff. One issue I had was that after being on the beach or at the pool ... men had to put on a sleeved shirt ... women could throw on anything over the beach wear ... This is understandable at one of the nice dining rooms, but the pizzaria and the restaurant next to the beach ???
There are 2 speciality restaruants - Fluentes and Santa Fe - Trip Advisors warned us to make reservations the very 1st thing after arrival. We tried ... they were completely booked for 5 nights.
El Dorado has many "members" who return and they get priviledges and the reservations first.
So we never experienced these 2 dining places... but we heard they were wonderful.
If I had to do it over, I would call 3 weeks prior to arriving and make reservations.
Recommendation - Italian and the Japanesse - excellent! But make reservations or you will have to wait ...
Bars - Martini Bar (next to lobby) and Belini's - wonderful bars. At other bars you may have to ask for top shelf alcohol ... why they keep it under the counter is beyond my understanding.
Pools - pools were fun and beautiful - very playful and you get to meet folks from all over the world ...
Loungers at the pool - not enough to meet the demand. Loungers are placed on on top of each other, Truly - loungers are touching each other and you have no privacy so if you want some privacy, it will not be at the pool.
Very nice and comfortable Lounging Beds -- at the pool and around the grounds
Beach - really very lovely ...hard working men out there early in the morning to make it clean and attactive
One side of the beach was palapays and the other side was cabanas
Palapays - nice, but too close together
Cabanas - probably 6 inches apart and in the direct sun all day ... very little shade. You can only take it a couple of hours because it gets so intense the sun will bake you.
Unless you are completely uninhibited, there is no topless sunbathing - or you go to the far end of the beach cabanas and find a little privacy.
Beach servers - just one hard working woman doing her best to take care of everyone. Drinks only, no food served.
Pool side servers - again - 1 or 2 ... easier to just go get it yourself
The lunch pool grilling buffet was excellent (and you did not have to put on a sleeved shirt.)
Spa - wife had a bad experience. Made a reservation when we arrived. She had her print out paper showing Friday at 5:00 p.m. She wanted to come early and enjoy, but was told to come at 4:30 - when she appeared, they argued with her saying "your reservation is for Saturday at 5:00 - even though the printout clearly stated Friday. Some employee stepped in and said that there was a cancellation and she went in ... but she got a very expensive massage and then was told thank you ... it is over. She later learned that water features were available next door at the sister El Dorado Cassitas However - no one invited her to experience this or explained options.
Golf Carts -- Everywhere you walk there are golf carts - usually employees on their work projects. Some may even be a shuttle for guests. But, be prepared to get off the sidewalks.
Business Center - they stated that they had free WiFi and a business center. I just figured that I would go to the business center, But to use the computers was a cost ... and then I got on and everything was in Spanish ... I hope I hit the right key to send business emails
Even though there were some bumps in this resort, the wonderful staff and the stunning beauty of the resort made it a very good trip.

Just returned from our tenth stay at the El Dorado Royale, we stayed for a week to celebrate hubby's Big 5-0! As usual, Mike Schellhase @ Travel Haus in St. Louis set us up!! From the moment you enter the front gate, the atmosphere is one of relaxation. Sergio at the front desk made sure our travelling companions received the same upgrade we had, no problem. We spent each day relaxing on the beach and over-indulging, "El Dorado" style. We went to breakfast daily at Cocotal, where our old friend, Celestino, greeted us by name .Our favorite lunch spots include the Pizzeria (ask for Orlando) and JoJo's. At JoJo's don't be surprised when the Catch-of-the Day comes out smiling:) For dinner, we enjoyed D'Italia with Nestor, a five-star waiter; La Isla, Kampai, and our new favorite, Sante Fe Grill. The portions are not too big, so you are able to enjoy each course of the meal. We found it most helpful if everyone ordered a different dessert and we passed the plates! The phrase we kept using after dinner was "food-drunk"! The property is kept very clean, and Irene kept the third floor of Building 41 nice and tidy! The staff go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and memorable.

Ok I'm one of those people who researches and researches resorts and then I second guess myself. El Dorado was my first choice and I went with it. This is a amazing resort. It truly is paradise! Room A+( very clean, shower and jaquize awesome, and bed extremely comfortable. Food B+ (all restaurant's nice and food good, but not excellent. Restaurant's are on a first come service, which is fine because I don't like to be tied to a reservation. Usually had to wait an hour. We just had a drink at the numerous bars around while waiting. I would suggest a buffet for a quick snack or if in a hurry. Every place was a sit down order restaurant. Beach was nice. We always found a spot and there was drink service on the beach. Yes there are whales in the water to break the waves, but still was gorgeous and was able to swim and enjoy the ocean ( and I'm definitely a ocean girl) Pools are all nice. Several optons. Main pool crowded and lots of activities if that's what you are looking for. Each building section has their own pool, more quiet. Our neighbors were not very friendly at our pool, so we ventured to the other pools. 1st Swim up bar pool on the Casitas side was our favorite. Several bar options as well. Our favorite was the bar on the Casitas side in front of the Kampai restaurant, simply gorgeous, good drinks, low key. The swing bar was fun, but crowded and in my opinion needed to be larger to acomadate show crowd. We had the honeymoon package and the candlelight dinner on the beach was fabulous! We also received the couple massages which were also fabulous! We were suppose to have our room decorated, champagne, and breakfast the next morning. None of these happend. We finally got them our last night there, but was unable to enjoy breakfast because we were leaving. Check in could have been better. We were told our room would be ready in an hour. It wasn't. We went back three times and was finally ready four hours later. This would have been fine if we were told this from the get go. Also we didn't like how we felt pressured to listen to their membership speech. I'm on vacation and don't want to deal with this. The service while good was very slow. All and all I would highly recommended this resort. It exceeded all my expectations!

Room Tip: We stayed in a ocean front room, building one and it truly was a ocean front room. The view was amaz...

This review is in two parts, the first is for anybody wishing to book this resort and the second to thank the staff that made our stay quite simply heaven on Earth.
This was our second stay here, as we loved it so much the first time. Firstly the best advice I can give is to adopt the Mexican way, relax and enjoy,You are paying a lot of money for this holiday especially if coming from the UK and need to know if its worth it, IT IS!
The resort is quite big and be confusing at first, the best thing to do is see your concierge as soon as you can, these people are here for you and don't be afraid of asking them anything, they can book restaurants, trips or sort any issues you have with the room etc. They are better than your Holiday Rep for these issues. When going for your evening meal expect to wait especially at busy times, this is usually 7PM, there are plenty of bars to have drink whilst you wait. I suggest you book for the more popular restaurants especially the Chinese and Italian, try to book into the casita Italian its amazing.
Its a truly amazing experience, I would definitely recommend the culinary theatre, its very good. The Romantic meal on the beach is amazing . The evening entertainment is very enjoyable, we only went a few times as we were busy elsewhere on the resort. There is always something to do and there are quiet areas for the romantics. The rooms are of a high standard and well serviced. The staff are amazing and take great pleasure in serving you and making your holiday memorable.
A great big thank you to the staff of El Dorado for making our holiday Heavenly!
Sergio Chan and Alexandra(concierge) thank you looking after us.
Allen(Front Desk) you seem to be there when we have checked in and out both times and made it a pleasurable experience.
Generations staff
Allen Mason(head concierge) thank you for your assistance in the billing issue, above and beyond mate, by the way loved the penguin suit!!!!
Howard, Mellissa and Mari Carmen(butlers) always a smile and happy to help, thank you Howard for the quick replies to my E mails.
Louis and Kenny(entertainment) Thank you for the green house tour.
Louis, fabrico, Kuman, Fabrico and Roman(waiters) excellent service with a smile.
Liliana, Maria and Gabby(beach butlers) always there with a smile and friendly chat.
David Haas thank you for making the best Mojitos I've ever had.

Room Tip: Blocks 1,2 and 3 are quiet.

July 18-25, what a wonderful week at the Eldorado. The resort vegetation was lush, palm trees, coconut trees, hibiscus, crocus & many more beautiful plants. Fallen coconuts were used as edging for many of the gardens which added to the tropical feel. Make sure that you get one of the drivers to take you around the entire resort for a tour; the resort is made up of a number of different sections, and also make sure that you have small bills ($1) so you can provide gratuities throughout the week. This would be a resort we return to again.

Dining
We arrived about dinner time, so while we waited for our room we were told to go to Jo Jo’s pronounced (Yo-Yo’s) and had our first great meal of the week, Caesar salad with Caribbean croutons and whole grilled red snapper. We ate at every restaurant except one, the Santa Fe Grill for no reason but American Cuisine is easily accessible at home. The food at all the restaurants for us was at least an 8 out of a 10 rating, even though the portion sizes were small. I totally recommend going to Fuentes the Culinary Theatre; you have to make reservations for this, worth not missing. The chef was really nice and interacted with the audience after each course he demonstrated the preparation. A couple things about dining we were disappointed with was that other than breakfast at Cocotal there was no other buffet style options you had for lunch or dinner, (with the exception of a salad bar at La Isla) everything was menu table service. Especially at lunch sometimes you just want to just grab a couple items from a buffet. It also got a bit annoying having to provide your name and room number every time before you were sat at your table, and we experience slow service a number of times. Oh… if you love drinking and eating fresh coconut one bar on the resort has them but they run out quickly. Go to the bar in the German area just past Fuentes pool.

Beach & Pools
There were lots of places to grab a chair or cabana or hut and it was really nice that unlike other resorts we’ve been to you didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve a spot. Now, don’t wait till late morning and expect to get your prime pick, but there was a lot of choice. They also had a number of hammocks around the pool areas. The beach area was nice to swim in and good for some basic snorkeling. Where we spent most of our time on the beach you didn’t even need any equipment as fish actually swam around you in waist high water; that was cool.

Room
We had a garden view room in the 1200 block. Room was nothing spectacular, but the bed was comfortable. The space could have been better laid out; the huge whirlpool tub in the bedroom area was kind of a waste of space. Even if we wanted to use it, being on the garden level people could see you in the tub if you had the curtains open as the back of our room faced the walkway. Bathroom shower was nice and big, we like that the toilet had a separate door. The vanity though there were two sinks left very little counter top space. The AC unit in our room was a pain, the air blew directly on the bed, was loud & no way to adjust the noise level or the force of the air blowing, we had it off half the time and just used the ceiling fan when we slept.

Entertainment & Activities
There was a good variety of scheduled regular activities like yoga, Spanish lessons, pool aerobics, archery, bike rides, beach volleyball & soccer ect. We really enjoyed the fire show, the acrobatic show as well as the magic show. The entertainment staff was really fun, personable & knowledgeable.

Room Tip: Accomodations are only 3 levels but if you have trouble with stairs you need a ground level as there...

My wife and I extremely enjoyed our stay at this amazing hotel and resort. Check in is quick and informative and the buggies are really useful in transporting your baggage around this humongous site. Our room was amazing, kept spotless by the attentive staff and the free minibar was kept topped up daily, just one thing the air conditioner can be too effective, remember to turn it off before you go to sleep. Poolside service can be slow but it does arrive, much quicker to get your drinks yourself. The many restaurants are well spread across the resort and offer a wide variety of different foods portions are small but the food is amazing and tasty. As vegetarians the options were limited slightly and some of the staff did struggle to understand the concept but were very attentive to our needs. It is well worth booking into the al a carte restaurants but the show cooking restaurant is definitely for enthusiasts. Covered beds by the pool and on the beach do go very quick so it is advised to get up early and reserve these if you need any shade during the day. Buffet breakfast in the restaurants within the main complex are well stocked and the staff are very helpful. We hope to go back to this hotel again and have recommended it to all of our family and friends.

July 20th-26 This Resort is beautiful.ALL the staff is always very friendly and helpful. We all had a very relaxing enjoyable vacation for 6 days. Several of the couples stayed in the 800s (lower level, walk up rooms)one couple was in 726 and one was in 611. They are all great locations. The shuttle is always driving by and will get you and take you where ever you need to go. I had been at the Mexican restaurant and had to go back to my room to grab something, the shuttle guy waited for me to come back out and gave me a ride back ( so sweet). We all took $100 ones and tipped nicely! They do like that & we LOVE the service. Omar & Carlos, worked at Jojos and they were so helpful for our large group and we tipped them GOOD!! We loved all the food. Our ONLY complaint that we all wanted to say, was that we wished there were more places that we could just walk up and get food quickly as we are hanging out on the beach. Like grab a hamburger or chips. They have these things at Jojos and the pizzaria, but its an hour plus wait! They are great to bring you aps. and drinks while you wait :) But a quick meal would be great. ALL the restaurants are so good ( small portions, so order a few options). Thank God our travel agent made our reservations for us every night at 7 - it was perfect, we never had to wait!! Each building has its own concierge. Ours was Alejandra. She was SO GOOD to us!! Very helpful in letting us know all our options! Check in and check out went very fast! The rooms are amazing & very clean at all times. The beach is clean and clear, we swam every day at the beach (get there early for cabanas and chairs). The dance place was open until 2am and was so fun!!! We love this place and will go back SOON!!!

Room Tip: 600s 700s 800s were great buildings. No ocean views as there are to many beautiful palm trees. Each...
