Traveled w/ a friend from 5/29 to 6/4 and after much anticipation the IBG did not disappoint. Grounds, pools, rooms, restaurants and common areas are immaculate. Staff are friendly and would go out of their way if needed. Made my dinner reservations 2 wks ahead but still encountered a problem on the second night. Reserved for the gourmet but it was closed. Went to the front desk and was informed that my dinner reservations for the week had been changed but I was never notified. No problems with the change but would have appreciated a notice. Smooth sailing after this small bump. IBG should correct whatever the issue is with the reservation system as it appears to be and ongoing problem. Meals were overall very good for an all inc. Food was fresh and well prepared. Beach and pool service was outstanding. Star Friends do a terrific job with activities, entertainment and making guests feel welcome. Two shows not to miss if they are offered, Rock Show and Ladies Night, dancers and singers were amazing. Very sad to leave, met some wonderful people both other guest and staff. Would highly recommend!

We have absolutely enjoyed staying at this hotel last week. It feels luxurious and glamourous, and friendly at the same time.
The decor of the hotel is reminescent of European palaces, with a touch of the tropics. From various locations in the hotel you have a stunning view on the carribean sea.
The food is fresh and delicious, and there is a lot to choose from (buffet & à la carte), including healthy options.

Was enjoyable, we were there for 8 days. It never felt crowded. The food was great. We loved the salt water pool. It was great lying out on the beach under the cabanas. Our room was very luxurious. The place was very clean. We took the van for $5 from the hotel to Playa Del Carmen. The top shelf liquor was a plus. We did not care for the dinner reservations because they only had early times available. The staff didn't seem as personal as we have experienced at other all inclusive. Entertainment could have been more interactive with the audience. The worst part of the trip was the last night we were there which was a huge disappointment; our waiter at the Surf and Turf was extremely rude. His behavior was so offensive, I couldn't believe it. We asked for a different waiter and they accommodated.

We have been wanting to try the Iberostar Grand Paraiso since it opened, and my husband's 60th birthday provided the perfect excuse to splurge. We have been to Mexico several times, twice before to the Riviera Maya and once to Puerto Vallarta. We usually stay at a Riu Palace resort and therefore have some basis for comparison. This was our first trip to an Iberostar property and the Grand pretty much lives up to its name. We booked our trip with Kellie Davis at goiberostar.com and she took very good care of us, including making our dinner reservations in advance and arranging a private transfer to and from the airport (which I recommend highly as it is so much quicker).

Pick up at the airport was very smooth and our check in was quick as the room was ready for us. We were in building 72, ground floor with a perfect view of the tranquility pool and easy access. Our butler arrived within minutes to our room and took care of just about everything we requested with the exception of slippers (which we never did get-but not a big deal). The rooms are very beautiful with plenty of closet space, large bathroom and very comfortable bed and pillows. What amazed me was that there was no musty smell that is common in Mexico as well as other Caribbean resorts that we have visited. Additionally, the hotel burns fragrant oils throughout which are so wonderful I bought some at the spa before we left. The entire resort is very beautiful and has a very high end atmosphere.

We were able to get a shaded cabana everyday by either pool, although I will admit that my husband is an early riser and scouted out our spots each morning around 7 am. The resort had one small corporate group from Spain while we were there, but overall, there was never any feeling of a crowd anywhere in the resort. Service was pretty much spot on with the bartenders and waiters taking care of you and even remembering your drinks, likes, etc. We were surprised not to see more tipping for them as they truly work very hard to make your stay a great one. All of their personnel are friendly and go out of their way to make you happy.

We had a couples massage and treatment at the spa which was wonderful and so relaxing. They were very professional and the atmosphere in the spa was perfect.

We ate at all the specialty restaurants and the buffet. I would say that our best meal was at the Italian restaurant, with a big thanks to Renee who suggested the perfect meal and provided top notch service down to the after dinner drinks. Toni's Surf and Turf was a close second for a great meal. The Gourmet was fine, and the Japanese I would rate only fair.
The lunch buffet was great with something grilling every afternoon. Dinner buffet was fine, but I did find that the food was not hot enough under the heat lamps. Overall cleanliness was excellent in all the dining areas as well as the entire resort.

The evening shows were very good for an all inclusive with excellent singers and dancers and very professionally done. They were the best we have encountered at an all inclusive resort. We had a great vacation and would definitely return "home" to the Grand again!

Hands down one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at. Great for couples (READ: no kids running around).

Staff-
Pros: A+ Makes the experience what it is... They are all super nice, helpful and accommodating. Wait staff was informative and attentive. "Star Team" (AKA people around the hotel running activities) were young, fun, and not pushy. Butlers (yes, Butlers) were there to grant almost any request. Bubble bath, anyone? Concierge was helpful with reservations, info, etc. Everyone generally seemed to enjoy their jobs and wanting to help.
Cons: none

Food-
Pros: From the buffets to the A la Carte places, everything was excellent. The Japanese and Italian were our favorites, but the French (Gourmet) and the Surf & turf Place were not far behind. Plus its all inclusive, so it was fun trying different dishes and getting bottles of wine. There is food available someplace, at any time of day, so you will literally never go hungry. even 24 hour room service.
Cons: Cheese left out towards end of buffet time got sweaty (but this is to be expected in 80-85 degree mexico heat.

Rooms-
Pros: Clean, comfortable beds. They will stock most anything you request in mini bar (also all included) . Deck had fun 2 person swing..
Cons: A little difficult to get water temp figured out in bathroom/ shower. Also, operating the lights requires a degree in electrical engineering. They go on and off at seemingly random times (went on when we sat up in bed, sometimes, and all light went off, TWICE, when i was sitting on the toilet--reading a book no less. annoying.).

Beach-
Pros: Plenty of chairs and overall super clean. 1/2 of beach was topless friendly it seemed. other half everyone had tops on... it seemed no one cared either way .
Cons: it was hot, but not really the hotels fault :). There were some beach peddlers walking around, but again not too pushy or annoying. good if you want a fedora, crappy silver jewelry or a beach wrap made in china.

Pools:
Pros: Something for everyone! three pools. Main pool was always busy with the bar, music and various pool games/activities going on. "Quiet pool" was nice too. Easy to get a spot with a bed in the shade and two chairs in the sun, even at 80% hotel capacity. "Cold dip" hot tub and main quiet pool gave nice options for temperature regulation. Pool in spa was also nice...mostly indoors with skylight opening. various jets and water devices to soothe your muscles.
cons: none. something for everyone.

Spa:
Pros: We had a great couples massage. Seemed like it went on forever.
Cons: at $150 pp for 60 minutes, it was a little expensive but definitely high quality. Also, only one of the masseuses introduced themselves at the beginning. I like to know who is rubbing up on me (at least their name).

Gym:
Pros: Clean, new equipment. not crowded. Air conditioned
Cons: not great variety of fitness classes or people well trained to lead them (except my wife, see below under activities. )

Activities:
Pros: free beach equipment rentals there was something going on nearly every hour from 10 am to 11 pm. . Spin class, which takes place next to spa pool, was WAY too hot and humid. never sweat so much. Yoga classes were great. Fun activities like Archery and pool games. There was a show in their theater every night, and generally high quality and entertaining. also had a nice pool room with two tables.

Cons: Yoga classes were only good because my wife (a yoga teacher from NYC) taught them (same goes for the one spin class we took). The staff said very honestly they they weren't really yoga or spin teachers, so they encouraged my wife to teach. If you expect good fitness classes, this is probably not the place, but if you bring your own yogini, you should be golden.

overall: highly recommended. we will definitely be back. The Grand hotel definitely seemed the nicest on all levels when compared to the other Iberostar brands (pretty much connected to our hotel and observed via a walk through--we were allowed to use those facilities but guests staying at the other hotels could not come to ours.). We definitely plan to be back and also are going to explore the Grands in their other locations.

Room Tip: We went through Jet Blue reservations for a deal
