Awesome resort! My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. There was a family in the charter van with us when we got dropped off that were staying at another resort. When we were pulling up to the Grande, that family was in awe at how nice our resort looked, it made us feel special that we were staying at such a nice place! We are planning our next visit to Mexico and realized we never wrote a review (as we stayed at the Grande a year ago). We had a corner suite w/ a hot tob on the balcany, which I thought was worth some extra money because it was very romantic. The rooms were very clean and you won't find a better bathroom at any other resorts. As for the food, wonderful! You can ask for anything at any restaurant and they will do whatever it takes to try and get it for you. The room service was wonderful, we had breakfast in bed almost every day! The only restaurant I would not recommend is the Italian. The Japanese and the Steak house were as good as any restaurant you would go to back home! Oh - and if you go to play golf there is a cart that they drive around with snacks and drinks too!

I had my wedding here in May. It was the same week as the insane swine flu media hysteria. While the majority of our guests still came, we had some people that ended up cancelling The hotel did everything they could to accomodate us and move people around in rooms, etc. Martha, our wedding coordinator was great! Also, Kellie with goiberostar was awesome! she really helped us switch out names and all of the hassle that went along with it. In fact, after we got back, she was able to get us credits for all of the rooms/nights we had booked that weren't used! I know it wasn't easy, but she was awesome and completely helped us out! She also had the best rates anyone from my group found (over 100 people).

The resort itself is gorgeous and the food is great. I would definitely go back!

will try and cover most things about this spectacular resort. This place is well and truly amazing could not complain about one thing unless you wanted to get really really picky. We stayed there for 14 nights from the 27th may and stayed in a sea view room, which was impecable comfy bed plenty of alcohol in the room, really nicely decorated, jucuzzi bath and shower his and hers sinks, big tv what more could you want in a room. For the last 2 nights we upgraded to a corner ocean front room on the second floor which just took our breath away, being in the jucuzzi and over looking the beautiful ocean is a memory ill we'll keep forever well worth the money for a couple of nights don't think you would truly appreciate it stopping in that kind of room for 14 nights. The pool was gorgeous well all 3 were the main pool tranquility pool and the indoor pool, butler service at all 3 never had any problem getting a chair if you came out at 9am or 1pm always plenty available. The beach was beautiful, we spent our time in front of building 70 when we was on the beach as the chairs were more comfatable there, as for the rocks on the beach/sea only becomes a problem if you make it a problem, there are plenty of places to swim and get in the sea without being near any rocks you can see them very clearly and are easily avoidable, my partner is'nt that good of a swimmer and had no problems, the sand was white and blinding when the sun reflected of it. The food, buffet restaurants breakfast/dinner there is more choice than you can shake a stick at and had no problems finding something to eat we also went to the lindo for there buffet at dinner for a little more variety, the a la carte restaurants were perfect, food amazing, we have noticed some people complain on here about the food being cold/bland/not that good i dont know where those people were eating but i can tell you now some of the meals i had there were some of the best i have ever had in my life, toni's surf and turf was our fav. Shows were good what you would expect from a resort, the staff were always helpful and would atend to your every need, star friends were great, BIG shout out to eder. To complain about this resort would be a crime we had the time of our lives there and would return in a flash, if you go to mexico dont miss out on this fabulous resort you wont regret it.

This is a very overdue review.. actually this is the first time we've been motivated to write a review (we're usually pretty lazy about these things).. First of all we didn't even realize when we were there, that it was during the period of the fist few H1N1 cases (both alive and well :).. we were still concerned about the drug cartels situation.. which we had no problem with at all when we were there.

LOVED:
1) Luxury and Cleanliness (we're very picky travelers)
2) Room service and thr room!!
3) Access to all the other Iberostars (but the food and drinks are the best on the compound.. we walked around all the other hotels.. and this is definitely worth the upgrade)
4) Beach butler, star friends (Pamela..), butler (Ernesto..)
5) Buffets (beachside for the location and the other one for the selection-- all you can eat caviars!!)
6) Spa area
7) Catching the waves on the beach.. (we had to buy our own floaties for $10 b/c the free ones were all taken out by the time we get to the water)
8) Nightly shows: Boogie night was very cute!!

Not too impressed:
1) Food.. we had dinner at all the a-la-cartes, very so so, except for the duck at Gourmet.. sushi was gross
2) Rocks on the beach.. beach looks beautiful.. but the scattered hidden rocks in the water are deadly.. my boyfriend still has scars

EXCURSIONS: (we only took 2 b/c the hotel was enough to keep us happy)
Tulum - Must go, if only for the beautiful beach.. the softest sand ever..
Coco Bongo in Cancun - had an awesome time! met some great ppl!! worth the $75/person
Playa del Carmen - very convenient with the shuttle from the shopping centre.. worth the visit.. very commercial but fun :)

We might not go back soon b/c of the rocks on the beach (we live in Canada so we crave soft sandy beaches).. but oh the luxury and beautiful surroundings will make this an unforgettable trip for the lucky people coming here.

Hello, and thanks to the many reviewers that have already reviewed IB Grand. We based our decision to stay at IB Grand on TripAdvisor reviews.

My husband and I stayed 5/20-27 in an oceanfront suite. We booked and paid the rates of the resort before the H1N1 scare and had requested a corner room. We didn't receive that room or even the possibility of paying for an upgrade to a corner room. Only one oceanfront building was open. Having said that, we were very happy with our room and came to find that the swing chair was a wonderful way to relax and listen to the ocean at night.

When we were there quite a few things were closed/ different due to the low occupancy (40%). So, that is to be kept in mind when reading this review.

The property is MAGNIFICENT!!!! The employees work hard to take care of the guests and most everyone is very friendly!!!! For the first 6 days of our stay the star friends were only at half (or less) staff and they were WONDERFUL!!! On the 7th day of our stay the resort seemed to change with the resort trying to ready itself to come back up to full capacity (e.g. The previous week we had been trying to do different activities and were having trouble locating them at the appropriate times... on the 7th day star friends handed out an activity listing, complete with map, that outlined all the activities for the week (would have been nice to have earlier)).

Things we loved about the resort in no particular order...
- The beach/ ocean!!!!! This resort has done a very good job of making make sure that the ocean is highly visable!!!! Sure, it is a little rocky in places but when you are lying under a palapa you can't see the rocks, just sand and surf. (We also really enjoyed that there were fresh water showers easily accessible to assist in the transition between sand and not)
- La Brisa, great buffet for lunch and snacks, wonderful and friendly waitstaff, and excellent location for watching the ocean.
- Star friends - daytime activity hosts and all around wonderful people. We enjoyed joking and hanging out with them. They work incredibly long hours but alwasy
- Night time entertainment - We attended the shows every night we were there. The shows were about an hour long and a great deal of resources have been put into making the set, costuming, coreography, and music really fit the theme for the particular night. There are some very talented dancers, and some that could use a little practice, but everyone tries and we really appreciated that. The barstaff/ waitstaff of the theater are also wonderful and very very talented!!! (We had bartenders from the Lobbies of the Playa Paraiso during our stay)
- The resturants!!! Great food and white glove service. Although what is written on the menu (and what you think you might be ordering) does not always exactly translate into what you are going to receive (language barrier) the food was wonderful. The staff is always willing to go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. (My only "complaint" is that I am perfectly capable of refilling my own wine/champagne glass and I feel a little guilty when someone dashes across the room to do it for me. Oh, life is so rough at The Grand *wink*). I would recommend... eating outside at Tony's Surf & Turf - the double cut fillet mignon was cooked absolutly perfectly and is EXCELLENT (and I eat a lot of steak), the Gourmet has the best overall desserts - there is also this cheesy potato thing that comes with the steak that is amazing, when eating at the Italian the ravioli and the truffled fettichini have been recommended I liked both but if you are expecting the ravioli to come in a sauce think again - it is a little dry compared to how "Americans" are used to it but they will provide extra cheese, pesto, whatever you want - just ask. The best dessert at the Italian is the beet ravioli (see picture). The "ravioli" are made with beet sugar (I think) and have a consistency of very thick gelatin and are filled with chocolate(about the consistency usually used in eclairs).
- Another thing we loved was the attention to detail that was taken in designing and maintaing the resort property. I enjoyed the well designed walk ways and the fact that the resort staff lights scent warmers every night. The smell and the night lighting really help the ambiance change from day to night.
- Although we weren't allowed to visit all of the other resorts, since 2 were closed, we did visit the maya and the lindo and found them to be very interesting. The lazy river could be a little stronger but it really doesn't matter if you are looking for a "lazy" river. The coconut icecream over the pool bar is not to be missed. They also have a yummy smoothie bar in front of the wave pool. (Definatly a different feel to the other resorts but we enjoyed visiting and were treated well.)
- Golf course, we are not experienced golfers and mostly wanted to just see the golf course (and what the fuss was about). I would recommed going ahead (bring your own balls- 3 were about $15) and renting clubs and taking advantage of the included golf. The course is lovely, we played some holes and not others and generally just enjoyed the course, the carritos, and the iguanas that tried to hide our balls when we hit them into the woods.

Things we didn't love about the resort...
- Check in... the first butler we met was not all that helpful and didn't really give us the lay of the land we also really never saw him again (and the bottle of sparkling wine he had encouraged me to order never showed up either). Mid-way through the week the butler staff changed and those gentelmen were very very helpful!!! However, if you don't ask for something it isn't going to happen, don't wait for them to offer -just ask.
- Due to the low occupancy some things were off, e.g. one of the night shows was changed last minute, we didn't receive the normal activity and map that listed where things were, (not all activities we always available compared to norm) the evening buffet was closed (I was really looking forward to the Mexican theme night)... (interestingly, our concierge gave us a difficult time about booking reservations at the time we wanted 7pm "as the resturants were full" "would you rather 6:30 or 9" and wouldn't do it when we were at the desk trying to book the last few days - there were 3-5 tables total other than ours those nights..and I think when the butlers got wind of it the remaining nights were fixed).anyway... while those things are annoying... it was as if the staff was trying to pretend that this is how the resort is all the time. (Maybe they were trying to protect perceived value...) However, no one offered an apology or explained that things were happening b/c of low occupancy. A simple apology, bottle of bubbly (it is included anyway right), or something like that upon arrival would have gone a long way to making us feel like the resort valued us being there.

All in all we had a fabulous time and would recommend the resort.

We stayed at the Grand Paraiso for 10 days. We met our butler our 1st night and he made sure we had full size bottles of Crown Royal and Johnny Walker + a bottle of red wine. We didn’t see him again but, that was OK. If we needed something, we asked the concierge and it was done. A special pillow was in the room within an hour of my request.

We spent most of our time at the Tranquility Pool and for the first 7 days it was a peaceful paradise. Mirna (with a genuinely friendly attitude) worked so hard to please all of us. She is a number one asset to the Grand! Unfortunately, it appeared that some people did not tip. If you can come to a resort like the Grand – you should be able to afford to tip properly!

The Star Friends were so cute and Christian was especially interesting!!!

All 4 of the restaurants had great service (a few glitches but none too bad). Gourmet was the fave. The Oceanside buffet is a beautiful.

We had room service breakfast most days. It was fine but, if you want S&P with your food, hold the salt and pepper shakers until you leave. (Missing several mornings.)

Adeli at the main bar knew what we drank and brought it as soon as we sat down.

Most days were red flag but the sea breeze was so comfortable. The rocky beach in front of the hotel had great tide-pools and it’s a very short walk to non-rocky beach.

I have never seen so many people work so hard! Many thanks go to all the employees of the resort and especially to Mirna, Adeli, Lupita, & Noemi for such a wonderful relaxing time.

This was our second time to the Iberostar Grand and were worried it might not live up to our first experience. I am happy to report the 2nd time was as fantastic as the first. In fact, due to the H1n1 scare we received above and beyond service! Just a couple things to advise you with; 1).Please bring lots of singles and tip everyone.....we saw so many guests never leave a single $. What a shame! The staff works so hard! 2). Bring a cheap raft from home...you'll enjoy both pools even more 3). Check out the spa at the hotel and the spa at the shopping center..they both are wonderful. In fact, the spa at the shopping center offered a package much lower than the Grand. 4). Use your golf course passes. We are golfers and loved the course. The Canadian tour cancelled the week of our trip and the greens were in perfect condition 5). Take the shuttle to Play de Carmen. For $4.00 per person each way a van will pick you up at the shopping center and bring you back. Ask the hotel for the schedule. 6). Bring your Ipod....the room has a docking station and you can enjoy your own music as you get ready for the night. Lastly...enjoy the shows at night..they are top notch! We can't wait to go back a 3rd time.............. You will not be disappointed with the Grand!!!!!!!!!!!!
