We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Platanista Hotel, Kos. We booked the holiday after reading the reviews on trip advisor and were not disappointed, we were very surprised to see two less than positive reviews that have been written since as we had an excellent experience there.

The hotel is spotlessly clean, the rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels provided if you require them. The animation team are fantastic and made our stay there all the more fun! We can recommend the aqua gym with Marco which is absolutely hillarious. The evening entertainment was a little bit hit and miss but if it wasn't something we fancied then we would visit one of the local tavernas or go into Kos town. The food at the hotel is the best that we've ever had from a hotel abroad, it doesn't get repetitive and there is so much choice that you end up with plates piled high. The waiter at the hotel did appear a little rude at first but we soon got him smiling with a bit of banter and ended up having a table reserved every night for us as we were in a group of 6.

Every Thursday Marco from the animation does a buggy tour around the island, this tour is fantastic. We visited Paradise beach (although this was not the nicest of beaches we were only there for an hour so it was fine), we headed up the mountains to Zia which is beautiful, had some lunch there and then off to Therma on the coastal road which is a little scary and to the thermal springs. Had a great day in all and Marco was a fantastic tour guide. Zia is also worth a visit at night to get the best view of the sunset on the island, we booked a minibus to take us up there through a company called InterKos this cost 7 Euros per person and was well worth the visit.

Around the hotel there are tavernas along the coast on the way into Kos town. We visited the Europa bar on a number of occasions and the Spikado bar (think this is the name, it is close to Kos town just before the harbour) do nice lunches. To get into Kos town it is approximately a 25 minute walk, we did it twice but it was much easier to get the bus in which only took around 5 mins. Kos town was lively, lots of little shops selling jewellery and fake designer handbags. We found some nice bars - Global cafe is definitely worth a visit and if you want to venture into bar street then at Charisma bar you get two for one on cocktails and free shots every 5 mins!

We were in a group of 6 aged between 29 and 57 and there was something for everyone. Spartak at the pool bar is the nicest barman you could wish for, we are missing our 7 o'clock drinks with him and all the lovely people that we met already. I would definitely recommend the Platanista!

We spent 2 relaxing weeks here at the Platanista, which was a good location for relaxing but not too far away to go into KOS Town (45 minute walk or 10 min bus ride - 1 euro and busses every 15 minute last bus back 2am) The hotel was very clean, some rooms had sun on their balconies - we were very lucky in 483 as the sun was on most of the day until 6pm. Food was very nice and varied if you are vegetarian there was a choice of pasta dishes every night and plenty of salad. The pools were not over crowded and there was never a rush for sunbeds, the animation team were fantastic not pushing you to take part in activities but were nice and friendly (they even organise buggie trips around the Island, don't forget your license) If getting out and about is for you we can recommend the trip over to
- Bodrum for some shopping, which only cost 15 euro down at the KOS Harbour
- Kalymnos which was a bus trip to Mastihiri then a boat for the day which was 16 euro (Boat times are limited so 10.30am and back 4.00pm, we found there wasn't not much there though)
- Zia is a must see for the sun set and the small selection of shops and fabulous views. Many taverna's for a nice Greek meal. We booked this with one of the agents in KOS Town for 7 euro pick up from the hotel at 5.30pm and return 10.30pm.
The only grubble is we felt the lobby area in reception would have been better with air conditioning, the doors are always open but it was sooo sooo hot in the late 30's and early 40's.
A great place and we shall return in the future.

We have just returned from staying at the platanista for 2 weeks and can only say that this is the best hotel we have stayed in. There are only good points and I can honestly say there wasn't any bad points. The rooms are immaculate and the maids come in every day with fresh towels and throughly clean your room for you. The breakfasts are lovely especially the crepes and the waffles, there is plenty of choice here for everyone and the waitress and waiters can't do enough for you. The animacion team were brilliant and can't understand the previous review about one of the members we didn't see any of this and thought they did a excellent job entertaining the children. It is quite expensive for drinks in the hotel but down the road is a mini market and were you would pay 2.20 euros for a coke in the hotel it is only 80 cent here. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone and would definately go back again.

If you come to a Greek island exactly because an island
is sorrounded by the sea, then if you stay at the Platanista,
get a car!!! - the hotel is probably in the worst part of the island
as far as beaches/sea are concerned. On top of that, the best beaches are on the other side of Kos and this means 50km each
way or 2 hours per day by car/motobike. Is it worth??
Moreover, the beach of the hotel is unguarded, open to everybody,
along a busy road and not exaclty inviting.
If you come all the way down to Kos to spend your vacation around a pool, then go for it, because the hotel itself is nice, new
and has nice pool area.
Breakfast good with freshly made crepes while food at dinner is
just OK - a lot of choice though. A waiter have been not
just unfriendly but really rude to me (I sat without asking the first day), but generally speaking staff was kind.

We have just returned from the hotel Platanista and was very impressed overall. Initially we liked the sound and location from the First Choice website and this was backed up from reading the reviews on trip advisor.
It is impossible to please everyone all of the time, but would honestly say that all the staff we came into contact with tried to make this so.
From an early morning checkin at reception at approx 6am, we was greeted by a bubbly receptionist that was soon to finish his night shift, we was quickly booked in and then he insisted on taking our baggage to our rooms.
Rooms were spacious and clean with air con, towels changed daily, a bath with shower mixer taps that actually gave you a shower, not one you have to run around in to get wet.
There was no need to take your own towels either, a small 3 euro fee for all WEEK gave each person a fresh beach towel daily, plus of course the ones in your room were more than enough.
We opted for half board so as not to be tied to the Hotel throughout the day, the food was amazing, enough to cater for anyone with varied tastes.
The waiter's we had most contact with where Alexandros and Nassoss and it was nice to put a face to the names we had read about on here.
The usual towels on the sunbed early to reserve your bed was the norm, and we fell into this also to get our required spot for the day, we popped into Kos for a cycle ride one morning though and returned about midday and was still able to get a sunbed, all be it not right at the pool side, so given peak season felt that that wasn't bad going.
With a poolside bar and a snack bar, prices was what you would expect in a hotel, cheaper if purchased from a supermarket, 2.20 euro's for a coke and ice approx £1.80, you could visit the super market and bring back bottled water or purchase it at the poolside bar and then just ask for a glass with ice at no charge.
Car hire, Buggy, bus and bike hire seemed quite good, we opted for a bicycle with carrier and security lock for 5 euro's all day, returned by 10am the following morning, where in the UK can you hire a bicycle all day for this??? a ride into Kos town was 5 mins approx with a nice flat road, 20-25 mins walk.
A 3 island boat tour in the marina at Kos was 25 euro's plus 5 euro's for sunbed hire. As mentioned in an earlier review the buggy tour with Marco had excellent feedback from all those that went,
Which brings me to the Animation team, they worked so hard all day and into the night to give anyone wishing to join in a good time and a laugh, thankyou Marco, Sanna and Lucas.
Reception staff was always helpful and even though we paid extra for a late checkout of 6pm, they let us keep the safety deposit box until we left at midnight.
Spartak the bartender would give any woman a run for her money in multi tasking, well done Spartak, you must have been an octopuss in a past life?
I was told the Hotel was a family run Hotel, I dont know if this had any bearing on how it may differ from any of the others, but feel they have got some thing that makes it that little bit different.
Would we return again...no hesitation whatsoever.
To all the staff at Platanista that gave us a lovely holiday, a big efharisto to you all.
