“Fantastic holiday”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

After reading a couple of poor reviews from early June, we were a bit concerned about our holiday. Well, the reviewers must have been staying at a different hotel, as we had a brilliant time (17th June for a week). General service from all staff was very friendly and helpful, the hotel was always clean. Pool side was great and enough sun loungers not to have to put towels out early in the morning. Food in the restaurant was fantastic, among the best we've ever had, and a special mention for the desserts - simply out of this world. A special mention for Julia in the restaurant - always cheerful. Regarding trips, Zia by night was good, but we also went on the Nisyrros trip to see the volcano (fantastic, make sure you walk down into the volcano). Also you can book this trip at 40% cheaper than Thomsons - just go into Kos Town and find the right boat down by the harbour. Also recommend hiring a cycle for 5 Euros, you can cycle through Kos and for miles out the other side on a cycle track. Only downside to the holiday was the entertainment which was mixed to say the least. You will enjoy this hotel!

I have never written a hotel review before because I have never been overly impressed but the Platanista changed that. This is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The Greek staff are most accommodating and friendly, especially the restaurant staff ( Maria is the centre for all the Gos). The food was absolutely unbelievable , both in quantity and quality. Everything worked - there were no rusty bits hanging off anything. The Pools are both excellent - including the Jacuzzi. Never got to try the Spa and Gym but they seemed to be in first class order. All in all , it was impossible to find fault with this hotel.

The room was brilliant, it was clean and the beds very comfy. Our room was located next to the pool and restaurant.....ideal. We were ground floor with a lovely little patio. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly, close to the beach which was pebbly. Bus stopped outside hotel to Kos town.

Room Tip: 102 ground floor

we have just come back from a very restfull holiday ,Food excelent staff very friendly and cleaning ladys was very through cleaned from one end to the other of the room ,staff in the dinnig roomwas very good ,we was there for two weeks 3rd to 17th June and they didn't have a day of some times on till gone midnight, and then back at 7 o'clock , I found the Thomson rep very helpfull and she answerd all questions , its a half hour walk into the town centre or get bus tickets from reseption , we found that there was always some thing that you could have to eat at night some times a little slow replenising but what a variety !!,pool was one of the biggest I have seen in a hotel ,with a smaller one close by but at times we had the pool to ourselfs ,I would recomend this hotel to any body thats likes to rest and read , there is always someone who could pick faults with things , and if you like cycling then this is the island for it , we would give it a good 4 1/2 stars , enjoy your stay ,

Room Tip: I think they are all good in there own way no matter where in the hotel

We have just returned from an 11 night stay at the Platanista. Overall, we have had a fantastic relaxing holiday. The hotel itself by far exceeded our expectations from pictures we had seen. The hotel staff were very warm, welcoming and always smiling. The hotel and surroundings were very clean throughout our stay. The food was great, with adequate choice and puddings were the best we have had abroad. The pool area was very peaceful throughout the day with sun-beds always available around the two pools.

The animation team (of 3) tried their best with a tuff/older audience! The Greek night produced a good atmosphere with restaurant staff joining in with the dances. Apart from this and overall, we thought the entertainment could have been much better. We did very much like that the animation team didn't hassle people during the day to join in with activities, but these things were available if people wanted.

Thomson Rep - We felt that the Rep showed a good overall knowledge of the Island as it is her second season there. She was bubbly and very approachable. However, her knowledge of more specific details for holiday makers we found was poor. For example, she gave incorrect information regarding busses, usage of the room mini-bar and transfer times for trips. All the trips which we went on, arranged through Thomson were fantastic with great organisation on the day. We highly recommend the Volcanic Encounter Trip! We did feel the travel time to get to each excursion was a little long (all over 45 minutes) due to visiting many hotels out of the way, to fill up the bus. This did however allow a good opportunity to see the island.

A couple of tips;
- As we were due to arrive at the hotel during the early hours (missing our first evening meal), we arranged via e-mail for a cold meat platter to have upon our arrival. This was very welcomed after a long journey and was free of charge due to missing our first meal.
- The safety deposit boxes are located behind reception at a small charge. We found this no problem and was pleased knowing our passports etc were safe.
- The mini bar in the room can be emptied upon request at reception, as there is no room for any of your own water etc.
- We highly recommend hiring a bike. We found this was a great way to explore Kos town and the local area. It is very safe to cycle, with allocated cycle paths.
- When booking excursions through Thomson, check the estimated time of return, as some were longer than others.
- Bottles of water at the hotel were 2.20 Euros each. However, we found in a local supermarket in Kos town (opposite 'Dolphin island'!), the same sized bottles being sold at 2.50 Euros for 6.
- Free wifi is available in the lounge area; ask at reception for the password.

This is not the place for a loud, lively holiday but it was perfect for us seeking a quiet, relaxing holiday away.

With its sand coloured turrets and sweeping archways this family run hotel is reminiscent of a Venetian castle. Tucked away in a peaceful spot beside Psalidi beach.Huge swimming pool, with plenty of sunbeds throughout the day. The buffet restaurant has a wonderful selection of dishes, we were never dissapointed. The staff are friendly and very helpful . Our room was in a new block and was on a par with any RIU we have stayed in. The only dissapointment was the evening entertainment which did not match the calibre of the hotel.
We will be staying again.

Visited on 4 May for an 11 day break with Thomsons. Hotel itself is excellent but slightly let down by the access road. Food was really good with a varied menu and plenty of it. Desserts a particular treat. A standard room is just that and is comparable with a Premier Inn. As I said standard. Staff were excellent and friendly both on reception and in the restaurant with particular excellent service from Maria and Catalin. Pools excellent with plenty of sunbeds however with it being early in the season the hotel was only at 30% occupancy and consequently evening entertainment was limited to say the least with films such as "Independance Day" being shown twice during our stay. Remember to take your own kettle if like us you like your regular cuppa. Overall a good hotel and a good break however would I go back again, probably not to Kos but to another Greek Island. The historical sites were overgrown with long grass and you couldn't see the ruins. The museum in Kos Town was being refurbished and the Roman Baths buried under what is now a park. All things know by our Thomson Rep who was to be blunt, utterly useless. The welcome meeting she advised would only take 15 mins because she said she knew we wanted to get on with our holiday. She went on for 3/4 hour covering all the available trips. We were getting messages meant for others on reception. Yes she had the wrong room numbers for a number of guests. We told her about the problem finding the roman baths and them now being buried. She said she knew that so why give us a Thomson map that is so out of date. We didn't along with others get any notification of our return pick up from the hotel Tackled about this she said well she'd put messages to us on reception, but still didn't give us details. Talking to other guests we knew would be flying back on the same plane is how we and others got to know pick up times confirmed by the help staff on reception. Our rep wasn't available as she was on airport duty. Hotel was good, holiday was good despite the best efforts of Thomsons. One things certain, I will not be booking via Thomsons again.
