“A Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

We have just arrived home from our holiday at the Hotel Platinista, Kos.
What an amazing place, book this and you won't be disappointed !
Before booking, I did check the reviews and kept the negative comments in mind so as to look out for them during our visit - in my opinion ungrounded, but I am not questioning the opinions of others ( opinions are individually drawn after all ).

We arrived at 2am, check in was easy - night staff insisted on carrying our bags - very welcoming.

Room: Room 554 - upper level away from main building, so less noise. We asked for a pool view room in advance ( staff happy to receive e mail requests ) which we preferred to a garden view, not much in the way of sea view rooms here.
The room was not huge, but still adequate.
Standard was high and the daily cleaning was to a high standard. Air conditioning worked well.
Mini bar was well stocked but over priced in my opinion. We did ask for the contents to be removed but they weren't happy to oblige ( some comments on TA show some had more success) , we just emptied it and put the contents aside so that we could use it ourselves.

Grounds / Pools: Kept immaculately clean, people do put towels on sun beds but there were still plenty, we had no problem.

Restaurant / Bars: Main bar is closed during the day ( open 5.30pm), you have to use the pool bar - bit of a pain. Bar staff are attentive, friendly. Local Mythos 4 Euro. If you want to watch sport in main bar just ask, staff happy to oblige.
Restaurant staff are also very friendly and attentive. My family have dietary requirements...dairy intolerant , celiac and had no trouble eating here. Most of the veg is cooked in butter but they were happy to prepare separately for us when asked. They even prepared a separate pizza. Lots of choice of Greek, continental and English food. You wont get bored. Drinks are included for breakfast but not for dinner, trousers are required for men during dinner - no shorts.

Stand out staff (and I am sure that there are others) ... Maria, always a friendly smile and greeting. The restaurant manager was always helpful - arranged for us to have a reserved table in the same spot as we were an odd number of 5 and as I mentioned very helpful with diets, nothing was to much trouble. Marcos, very friendly and well mannered young waiter.
Mr manager - these people are gems within your organisation.

Entertainment: As mentioned by others a bit cheesy at times but made us laugh - is that not entertaining? Some nights were better than others, you don't have to stay and watch!

Other items: Wi- Fi - only in reception, not great, drops a lot. My 3G was better. Bus stop just outside - return around 3e to Kos ( bus rides chaotic, free for all )! Hire a car or bike through hire shop outside not through rep - much less expensive. Car - 37e , electric bike 12e. Beach opposite - horrible, better beaches a bus ride away.
If you are planing a three Island tour book direct with the boat at Kos, much less expensive. We used the Katerina at 25e and had a great day ( separate review).

Over all, a great place to stay - from what I have seen whilst travelling, the Platanista looks to be one of the best hotels on the Island. Hire a car and travel - lots to see, driving here is easy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room outside of main building if you want your evenings a bit quieter.

We have just returned from a ween at the Platanista Hotel. We haven't been to any Greek Islands before and was very pleasantly surprised.

The hotel was spotless, very well run and lived up to the good reviews we have seen on trip advisor.

The food was lovely and plenty of selection. Entertainment most nights, sadly we arrived and left on the Tuesday which was the Greek night. Professional photographers were there on the Tuesday too hence we missed that too.

There is a bus stop on the main road into kos town but if there are 4 people travelling it is the same price to take a taxi. The walk is approx 30-35 mins and in the heat can be a little strenuous but the breeze on the island helped.

The beech near the hotel was shingly but we took a trip to paradise island the other side of the island which was sandy and beautiful.

The only issue we had was maybe some food could have been made available for us as we arrived around 11pm and hadn't eaten since lunchtime. However, there was a supermarket about 500metres down the road which was open.

It was a beautiful setting, lovely staff, lovely food. Perfect for a relaxing couples holiday.

Just returned from the platanista hotel in kos. We had a fantastic holiday and loved every aspect of our holiday. The hotel was a little further out from kos town than we expected but was only a 5 minute bus ride or 30 minute stroll. Once in the hotel our expectations were exceeded. Spotlessly clean, really freindly staff who couldnt do enough for you and made you feel really important. The pool areas were spotless and there were plenty of beds, we never struggled to find a bed at any time of the day. We had a deluxe double room which was fantastic, loads of room and very modern. The room was cleaned daily and towels changed daily. The food was excellent and was plentiful, with loads of choice. The entertainment was typical holiday entertainment but very watchable, 80s disco night was a hit with everyone. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and would have no hesitation in returning .

The manager of the Platanista Hotel has learned that "the devil is in the details." The place is spotless! Inside and out.
The staff couldn't be friendlier: hats off to reception clerk Tasos and the waiter Vagelis.
Great food and new, immaculate rooms.
Great location.
However, asking guests for 5 Euro for the beach beds doesn't fit the climate of the hotel. I would consider rethinking this policy.

Room Tip: Bring your own towels for the pool/beach as the hotel charges for this.

This hotel is rated platinum by Thomsons and certainly didn't disappoint. The Hotel is very clean bright and airy lots of places to sit and relax if you don't want to sit at the pool or need shade. Two lovely pools with jacuzzi plenty of sunbeds & very clean in all areas, We usually like upper floor rooms but were given a ground floor family room overlooking the tennis courts the view was pleasant. The room was huge a double bed and the other side of a screen two single beds there was no safe in the room, but you can pay to hire one in reception that you have access to 24\7. .All staff are really friendly they work very long hours but always have a very good sense of humour. The food is really good a lot of choice for breakfast waffles, crepes and pancakes cooked to order the usual Cereals, various hot food bacon eggs etc cold meat and cheese,,yogurt & pastries. Also Gluten free cereal and biscuits which you don't see often abroad. The evening meal is equally as nice Soup, pasta,,fish and two meat dishes potatoes, chips and varied vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, mixed veg asparagus & carrots) a great choice plus some Greek dishes to try..There was also a show piece A roast turkey,Roast pig, something different every night. The meats dishes were always very tender and all food was of good quality ,cooked well and nicely presented. The ice cream was nice with about 5 flavours to choose from but the sweets were delicious each one tasted as good as it looked.! It was nice to be able to dine alfresco but it was nice inside as well. There is a snack bar by the pool food is good & reasonably priced. The drinks in the hotel are branded named so good quality & not overpriced. Entertainment in the evenings organised by animation team with some audience participation was very funny!!There is a small beach across the road sun beds for hire, beaches on this side of the island are pebbles and gritty sand. Push bikes & car hire just a short walk from hotel. Bus stop on the main road buses are frequent tickets can be purchased cheaper from hotel reception or booths in Kos town 2.20 euros for 2 or 3.00 euros if you purchase on the bus. taxis are about 8 euros into Kos town takes about 5 mins on the bus or taxi a good half and hour walk, but there are a few taverna's on the way. Kos town is lovely day or night lots of walking lots to see and various boat trips. The staff are a credit to this hotel and I| would certainly recommend it ..Loved Kos Loved Hotel Platanista had a fantastic holiday would definitely return!

Room Tip: Rooms by tennis courts have easy access and are quite.

Simply superb, big enough, very clean, beautiful gardens well groomed,2 big pools, jacuzzi, tennis court. The personnel is very attentive and professional. The food was very, very good, breakfast was the same but with plenty of choices and good quality.Dinner was always different on the 7 nights we stayed there and sooo tasty:lamb, pig, cow, fish, sea fruits, lots of fruits and desserts.
You also have free wi-fi in the lobby area and pool bar, just ask at the reception for the password.Location is good,30 min walk to Kos town or you can rent a bike at the hotel for 5 E/day or you can just take the but for 1,5 E and in 5 min you get to Kos town. The beach in that area isn't the best,it has small rocks and the hotel sunbeds at the beach are 5 E/day.
The minibar is full at the check in,you can just ask at the reception to clear the minibar/mini refrigerator and you can put your own stuff. There is a market named "Mega market" 500 m as you walk to Kos Town and you can get cheap water and drinks etc.
There are also pool entertaining and evening shows.
