“2 hungry weeks”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

Arrived in the middle of the night and received a friendly welcome from the night porter,He left us sandwiches in the room that must have been there all day because they were solid. Also nothing in mini fridge to drink.Had to stock it ourselves found the reception staff really helpful and friendly. The room overlooked the mountains and the front of the hotel which was away from the noise of the pool area. The room was a decent size and clean, although the sheets and towels looked a bit grubby, the bathroom also needed updating and the shower leaked down through the door and out into the corridor. The pool area was lovely with big trees to shade under and plenty of sun beds, although it was very noisy during the day with VERY LOUD music being played by the animation team, so loud it could be heard on the beach which was at least 500m away. Saying that there was plenty to do during the day if you wanted to join in the activities round the pool. The animation team were friendly but not pushy especially Sophia who was lovely and I hope she gets the job she is looking for. Evening entertainment left a lot to be desired!!!
Now to the biggest problem. The food and drinks. Considering its all inclusive there was only three meals per day with nothing in between for the kids unless you were prepared to pay for it and the bar finished at 11 o'clock at night after that you had to pay for drinks. All the soft drinks were unbranded and weren't very nice the water was out of the tap no bottles unless you paid for it. Bar staff were very friendly. The beach bar was a wooden shack with a cool box with flat soft drinks in it. Totally inadequate.
The restaurant manager was very flirty with the young female guests and could be nasty to the young waitresses in front of guests, which was not nice to see because they were very nice and polite and attentive. The food was garbage, nothing labelled, always cold and when I asked what the food was some of the staff didn't even know. Being there for two weeks it made meal times miserable. We ate out a lot which put a lot of extra cost onto the holiday. Having previously stayed in 5 star hotels I would rate Sun Palace as a 3 star. This is due to the food, drink and poor all inclusive deal, no beach towels available and no bath robes and slippers as stated on web site.
Would not stay at this hotel again but please don't be put of Kos as a holiday destination, as it has a lot to offer. We hired a car for 2 days and traveled all round the island. With a good clean and tidy up on the island it would be even better.

Short version:

Lovely stay in this 4 stars hotel. Excellent service, very nice food, modern big rooms, fantastic animation in the hotel. One of our best holidays ever. I would really recommend this hotel. We spent 14 days in August 2013 and fully enjoyed every single minute of it. If you are a beach lover, make sure you buy plastic shoes for the sea as there are some small stones in the sea.

Long version, if you want to know more, read on:

We just came back from our holiday in Kos and spent 14 days at the Sun Palace Hotel in Psalidi. The hotel is a 4 stars hotel. We had a very pleasant stay at the hotel and enjoyed every single minute of our holiday. Let’s start with the rooms. They are very modern and big. We had number 513 which is a family room. Very nice/modern beds and very practical and modern bathrooms, with a douche and a bath douche. Excellent for a family as we are with 2 adults and 2 children. The rooms were daily nicely cleaned up with occasionally decorations on the bed made of towels and red hibiscus flowers. Many thanks to the cleaning lady of our room. It gives you a fantastic feeling when you come back from a long day out in the heat/sun and find your room clean, neat, decorated and fresh/cool, with the 2 nice cooling systems, one for the separated room for the children and one cooling system for our bedroom. Our bedroom was separated by a glass wall with a door, which does have a rolling store, so you can separate the 2 rooms for some intimacy. There is a nice veranda in front of the room to enjoy reading a book or so. Wi-Fi is available all over the hotel. The restaurant has really plenty of food and a huge diversity of dishes. We spent 14 days in the hotel and had really a lot of choice for the food. The food is really nice and good, not just some food. The Chef de Cuisine here is doing a fantastic job, of course with the rest of the cuisine staff. Many thanks to Anastasios. The first impression of the waitresses and waiters is a bit unusual, as they are all very young, dynamic and quite cute dressed, but it really works and it is impressive the way the service is very well done. As soon as you sit down, you will immediately have someone asking you what you would like to drink. Finished dishes are cleaned up immediately. Always with a smile. Impressive organization. Well done to the Maître d’hôtel and of course the staff. Special thanks here to Victoria and Lucian for their professionalism and kindness. Don’t be surprised if the staff speaks English in between them, they are like the rest of the hotel very international. This hotel is really totally international. I have never seen so many different nationalities amongst the tourists, and the staff as well. Let’s talk about the pool bar. We spent really a fantastic time late at night and early in the morning at the nice pool bar, which is late in the night animated by Isabela and Jolanta. Many thanks to both of you. Isabela you are a fantastic person and the hotel is lucky to have you! You serve and make fantastic cocktails and “animate” the bar is an exceptional way. We had a fantastic time thanks to you as well. The hotel has many facilities such as a nice and big swimming pool, small pool for small children, nice garden, pool bar and inside bar, wellness and fitness center, private beach, tennis and many other things. Fitness is a bit small though. The beach is nice and private but you have to have plastic shoes to go inside the sea, as one side of the island has everywhere small to medium stones in the water, and some other parts of the island have sand in the sea. Paradise and Kefalos beach are some of the sand beaches and are really recommended to go to. Many thanks to Melina and Despina at the reception for their very nice and professional service.
Now, I really need to speak about the animation at the Sun Palace hotel. You are a terrific and fantastic team. Not very often to see an animation team which is so well performing, kind, helpful and animating the hotel without forcing at all, the customers. The hotel would not be the same without this fantastic animation team, and that really makes the difference. Be it the “Pétangue”, Gym and stretching in the garden, Water Gym, Water Polo, Darts, Ping-Pong, Volley-ball and of course the mini disco and the surprise shows in the evening, we really enjoyed it fully and the kids of course, as well. I might forget some names but big thank you to the whole team. Special thanks to Steller (hope the name is correct) for the Tina shows, the dancing spectacles, the fantastic humor and all the rest. Special thanks to Sophia for everything, all activities, Titanic shows and songs and all other sport activities. You are both very nice persons. Wish you all the luck to continue the shows and the animations. She had to leave earlier, but many thanks as well to Lena. So, overall, I would conclude with this. We had a lovely vacation in Kos and had a very pleasant stay at the Sun Palace hotel in Psalidi. If we go to Kos again, we will for sure choose this hotel again.

There was a very warm welcome when we arrived and the staff were very helpful. Although we didn't arrive until 8.30pm one of the first things they mentioned was that the restaurant was open until 9.30pm. The rooms were well maintained and roomy, with the added bonus of air conditioning in the price. The safe was 20 euro's and used a keypad system rather than the usual key type - which was great not having to carry a key around. You just had to remember which number you programmed in:-). Rooms were cleaned everyday and the maids were very friendly. The hotel is a 15 minute bus journey away from Kos town, and the local bus service is very regular throughout the day - bus tickets available from reception 1 euro 50 each way per person. Kos town is well worth a visit especially for the harbour. We enjoyed our day out here especially as there is very little around the hotel area in the way of shops and bars. The pool area is very clean and in a nice setting, with plenty of sunbeds available. The beach is a 15 minute walk away but is small and rocky - with a small beach shack serving soft drinks. I have to be honest and say we never used this but we didn't book this as a beach holiday. Breakfast is the usual variety of food that you get on most all inclusive holidays that being bread, dried fruit, meats and cheese. Hot food including sausages, bacon, eggs etc and then the usual pastries and pancakes. Dinner and tea were a variety of salads, meats cooked on the hot plate and the usual vegetables, potatoes, chips etc. There was plenty of choices for all. The one comment i would make that other people have mentioned was that none of the food was labelled. I enjoyed nearly everything that I ate but would have liked to have had some information about each dish. There is no snack bar available throughout the day but at 3pm there are cakes and available and for the kids there are free icecreams - at any other time icecream can be bought from the pool bar. All local drinks were all inclusive until 11pm at night and this was late enough for us. The local wine and beer were very nice but as other people have commented the soft drinks are not "branded" and as such were drinkable but not great quality. The animation team worked hard throughout the day to ensure everyone was happy, with a varied programme of activities - a little repetative on the sixth day but the kids enjoyed it. The evening entertainment comprised of a mini disco for the kids at 9pm and then a varied programme at 10pm. I have to admit this at times was below expectation for a 4 star hotel. All in all we had a lovely relaxing holiday, with no problems. Special mention for our rep Stefan (Thomas Cook) who was very enthusiastic and took time to find us everyday and make sure we were ok and enjoying ourselves. If visiting the resort one comment I must add is bring insect repellant. There were seven of us in the party - it ranged from one person having 1 bite to another with 29 bites. I hope all this helps anyone booking their next holiday.

The room is large, clean and nicely decorated. The towels and sheets could be renewed.
We could always find sth interesting in the restaurant, no issues with the taste and variety. The staff is kind and helpful. Many thanks to the restaurant manager, he had special soup prepared for our baby.
The sea is a little far away, 5-8 min walk. There is a bar there but lots of space to improve. No change room or restroom near the sea.
The animation team is great, esp for kids.
Worth the value, nice family hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms by the swimming pool may be noisy until 23.15

Just got back from our stay at Sun Palace, Kos.

-Room was cleaned daily and done well. The room we had overlooked the mountain and road which meant it was away from the noise of the evening entertainment but had buses dropping holidaymakers off during the night and noise from the traffic.

-Waitressing staff were very helpful and pleasant. However, whoever chose the uniform didn't really think. All the girls were wearing skirts that only just covered there decency.

- Food was edible but quite plain and repetitive. We ate out two nights which spiced things up a bit. Wouldn't recommend this hotel based on the food. There was limited choice of drink for an all inclusive hotel, we were not expecting their to be branded items however, there was more to be desired than what was on offer.

- we had sandwiches left for us as we arrived late, this was a nice touch. But there was no bottled water in all the other all inclusive hotels we have stopped in water has been provided.

- Animators worked hard and they were entertaining and kept the children busy which was good. Break in the middle of the day meant there was a bit of piece and quiet.

- bus outside hotel into Kos we didn't use this service so cannot comment on.

- the maitre d was not very professional, I felt he was quite pervy towards the female staff. He also told off staff publicly which I thought was disgusting. He was disrespectful to people staying in the hotel which I felt was out of order. And he would smoke whilst on shift. Saying all of this, he could be pleasant and welcoming...,.sometimes.

Kos was a lovely place I would not return as I do not believe in repeating holidays. I would recommend the island to anyone but you could probably find a better hotel. The hotel was very large and the beach was a long walk. But some people like this sort of thing. Not for us though.

Thank you for our stay it was enjoyable but I do not feel that this hotel is 4 stars.

Most of the positive reviews are misleading. ddl73 has said everyhing that needs to be said. First of all, we did not find anything to eat, and the beach was far away. So we had to rent cars and went to other beaches, and had our lunch and dinners outside. At the end, it was pointless to pay all incl, and eat&drink outside of the property. Food&beverage needs to be improved.

The staff was nice and kind, mostly nice&young girls from Eastern European coutries.

The room was nice and clean enough. I am sure you can find better all inclusive resorts in Kos. Or just book a simple B&B and spend your money outside.

The taxi from Kos town, costs 9 euros.

Ok. It was a late booking but we still paid 1.5k for a weeks all inclusive. Well, all inclusive isnt all inclusive. Theres buffet meals at breakfast lunch and tea. NOTHING in between. The usual free local beer and cheap spirits which u expected. The bar shuts at 11pm unless u want to pay for it!. The food is ok but you dont know what u are eating as there are no labels and noone wants to speak to you. Breakfast ends at 10 on the dot.someone went to get a refill of coffee at 10 and was told no!! As the evil manager turns off the coffee machine! Children are allowed ice cream but only till 5, so from 2 till 7 there is nothing. The whole hotel needs cleaning and general maintaince.on the day before we left their was a problem with the drains and raw sewage was coming up though a grate outside our apartment! The staff are shouted at in front of customers we have seen more than 1 poor girl in tears. This evening I was going to have some pork steaks, until I saw the chef putting the steaks on the griddle and with the same blood dripping hand he was dripping raw meat juices onto the cooked steak!! NOBODY knows what they are eating as nothing is labelled! The pools are in need of a good clean and repair expecially the babies pool which I full of grit and bits of rubble in it. There are banisters on stairs totally unsafe. Internet computers not working. No 'theme food nights' as advertised, the alledged private beach is well 2000 metres walk away through a very eiry patch through waste land on a very very dirty part of beach/ rubble/ ashtray. We cannot fault the young girls ( which they all are) who work here as they are all very helpful etc. The cleaners swept the rooms and changed the sheets every day but waited on 2 plugs to be fixed and reported 3 times about ants and after the 1st time I dont think they could be bothered! Overall it was a bad experience and would advise spending your hard earned money elsewhere! P.s we got the feeling they didnt like brits!
