We had a week July 18th - 25th 2012 in a 2 bed apartment (bungalow). fairly basic but super clean. Aircon in bedroom with 3 single beds so the children had that room. 4 euros per day well worth it. Could not have managed without it. Our bedroom had a fan on the wall which gave a little relief from the heat but was a bit noisy at nighttime when trying to sleep. Got used to it. Cleaners in everyday and did a great job. Tried to cook a simple pasta and sauce for the children's lunch but the hob thing took an age to heat up and once boiling it was just too hot to be standing there stirring a pan of pasta. Ate out everyday. We had read the reviews and followed recommendations from others - Greek night on tuesday was excellent, carvery and fire eating act on sunday was great, took bus to kos town several times and ate at Akteon restaurant opposite the bus terminal which was lovely. Also took the little ditto train for tour of the town which the children loved. Turn right out of Nirides to find Nestoras taverna, lovely meal here. Turn left from hotel to Blue Ocean, another great meal and fab sunset. This is opposite MEGA supermarket where we got all our bread, milk etc. Pool bar was ideal for lunch time snacks, drinks and lollies. Run by Kyros and Lily who were so friendly and really looked after us. Beach opposite was stoney and quite difficult to get into. Husband swam in it everyday but not very child friendly unfortunately. Could not believe the heat 39/40 degreesC. We met Smaro and Stavros on the Greek night and carvery night and they were extremely welcoming and friendly. But otherwise we kept ourselves to ourselves. We asked at reception for an extra airer as we had so many towels etc to dry and it was on our patio within half an hour. The sliding patio door came off its runners and a guy came round in 10 minutes and fixed it. Always lovely service and nothing too much trouble. We had to vacate appt by 11am on last day and weren't being picked up for airport transfer til 6.45pm. Just left our luggage in the lobby, spent day at the pool and used the hotel courtesy shower room for a freshen up. Can pay 25 euros to have a room for the day but we didn't think it was necessary. Overall a great holiday, would thoroughly recommend. We do like to visit different places and don't tend to go back to the same place twice but we'd happily return here. Family Myhill xxxxx

Room Tip: We liked our ground floor bungalow as we could dump all wet inflatables, towels etc straight on to t...

Just returned from our second - and our daughter's third visit. What more can we say ..... Smaro and Stavros you are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Greek night and Fakir show amazing too. Staff all so friendly. Special thanks to Kyros at pool snack bar. Bus stop just opposite hotel - only takes few minutes to get into Kos town but restaurants close by if you don't fancy going into Kos town - would recommend Blue Ocean just 5 minute walk away opposite mega supermarket. For those that like a bit of adventure would recommend Superjet boat from kos harbour - just be prepared to get soaked! Smaro and Stavros thank you again for such a wonderful stay - you made us feel so welcome again that it feels as though you are now part of our family. Still not entirely certain whether it was the vodka and coke or coke and vodka that affected Alice when she came with Laura in June!! Until next time - Roy, Sarah and Alice

Niriides is a great choice for a holiday and was definitely made my first 2 week holiday one to enjoy.

Firstly, the drive from the airport is about 40 minutes (an hour shorter than we were told) and our first impression of the hotel was good. The reception/bar area is very modern and clean. We were given our room key and went off. After having a struggle with the door (you have to turn the key twice and make sure it is fully pushed in) our first impression of the room was not as good. We paid for a sea view studio appartment, and upon seeing it we thought we had at first been given the wrong room. It was much smaller than imagined, but still with a sea view. After we had slept our first night and woke up we realised that the room wasn't too bad and we must have been cranky due to being tired.

On that morning we attended a Thomson welcome meeting which was useful but if you are travelling with Thomson, do not fall into the trap of believing that they are good value for money. You can find much cheaper excursions in Kos town. We booked 5 excursions with Thomson, and although they were fantastic we were annoyed that we had lost out on some money. We payed €27 each for a trip to the water park (which is great fun and I highly recommend) when the ticket price at the park is €19 and there is free travel there.

The room we had, had 2 single beds pushed together, making it hard for couples to cuddle and enjoy sleeping together. The shower is rather small which some larger guests may find hard to use, but it is detachable. Our balcony was a good size with comfortable seats, but the balcony door is not a sliding door which means we couldn't leave it open without it banging or annoying us. The main curtain is only just big enough to cover the whole window area, which means some light is let in at night, so if like me you prefer total darkness, may annoy you slightly. Air conditioning is €4 a night and is worth it. It cools the room down immensely. It is true the rooms get hot but you're in Greece! Ofcourse they're going to get hot and people that are complaining about this are being pedantic.

The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. They get to know you and make the stop more enjoyable, especially the pool workers. The maids are came to our rooms usually around midday, giving us enough time to sleep in a bit later, if we chose, and cleaned the room well. A toilet roll is given each day so you do not need to buy any unless you use a lot.

On sunday nights there is a show with a man who plays with fire and walk on some sharp stuff, etc. It is free and gives you something to watch whilst at the bar if you choose to stay in. Tuesday nights is greek night and despite what others say is definitely worth the money. For €10 you get a starter of traditional greek dishes, which were absolutely delicious, barbecued skewers of meat for mains, and a dessert. There are greek singers and dancers and the staff get involved, which is nice to see. They will try to get you up, but aren't too pushy so you don't have to join if you dont wish. It is a good laugh and we will certainly remember that night.

The breakfast has a good variety and is €6 but we aren't breakfast eaters so I cannot comment on how it tasted. However, it was my birthday on our stay and we received a free breakfast delivered to the room. This included bread and butter, cheese, ham, olives, yogurt, peaches, honey, marmalade, cake, biscuits and orange juice. The poolside bar has a good variety of breakfasts and dinners at good prices. We did not have tea at the hotel so I cannot say how this was, but they grow their own food behind the hotel so is fresh.

The pool was very clean and is larger than pictures show. It was not crowded which was perfect, with plenty of sunbeds free all through the day. Shade is provided if needed and there is a childrens pool. The beach also has plenty of sunbeds available, some with shade too. It is sandy by the sunbeds but rocky near the water. Some people have said it is poorly kept, but we could not see why, yes it has grassy bits and rocks but that is just natural. It is free of litter and the water is perfect.

The closest shop is about 5 minutes away where there is a female worker who speaks perfect english and a very grumpy old man working, but it has all that is needed. Town is a 20-30 minute walk away and has good variety of restaurants and shops. You can catch a bus (€1.60 per person no matter distance) or walk on the path. Many people travel by bike (which are cheap to rent) so you have share the path with them which can get annoying, but after a little distance the walking path and bike path seperate.

Places we recommend visiting are:
Therma, a volcanically heated sea which is pure bliss. We went 3 times during our stay and the temperature does vary. It is about 15 minutes away by bus and there is a steep walk down a hill, but this isn't too much trouble. There is a masseur here who gives amazing massages and is extremely friendly. On our third journey to Therma, my partner was sick and he could not help us anymore, for which we were very thankfull.
If you are into history/archaeology/mythology the asklepion is an amazing, inspiring place to visit with great views down to Kos town.
Nisyros is a volcanic island to the south of Kos, about an hour to reach. It is great to visit if you are into your geology/geography, like me, as well as photography. There are traditional greek villages with friendly locals (including your typical old greek people!).
Bodrum is about half an hour away by boat and is a nice place. It is good to say you've been to Turkey aswell as Greece.
The tree of hippocrates is interesting to see just for the history but is not as amazing as some people may tell you.
Zia is a beautiful village in the mountains with amazing views of the sunset, we highly recommend an evening here.
There were many great places to visit but there were the highlights of our holiday.

Places not to visit:
Kos castle, it costs to enter (very cheap though) but there is nothing to see. There are no sign posts and no information is given. This is the only place in our 2 week sty which we were not happy with.

Problems we had:
Our tap was leaky which is like torture! We put a bottle under the tap however, problem fixed!
The shower door and toilet seat was broken. Of the 3 toilets I used in the hotel, they all seemed to be broken which is a bit of a health risk. The shower let some water on the bathroom floor making it slippy, but there is a drain in the bathroom so it eventually drained.
The light in the hallway is not turned off at night and lets a lot of light in under the door, which I personally found a problem, not everyone would.
The hotel can be very noisy, not because of the bar or restaurant but because of other guests. People are going to get drunk on holiday, fair enough, be noisy, fair enough, but it was like there was no door there at all. We could hear all that was going on in the hallway, waking us up several times. If you are going on holiday here, just have a little consideration for other guests, I plead. Unlocking the doors is very loud and maybe the locks could be changed.

Still, we had an amazing stay and I would certainly recommend this hotel. Staff are friendly, the hotel is very clean and the views are amazing. If you are going to this hotel, then I am very jealous, I did not want to leave! We do not return to the same place for our holidays but if this hotel was moved to another location, I would book it again in a heartbeat. Thankyou to all the staff! And finally enjoy your holiday!

This apartment/hotel is probably one of the better hotels I have stayed in. The location is perfect as its far away enough from bar street and close enough to have a nice walk into town to watch the sun set while you have a meal. The apartment itself wasn't too bad (room 10) but what I expected because of the pictures wasn't exactly to its standards; the tap was dripping, toilet seat was broken and so too was the shower doors (no surprise as it was only just able to fit myself in). The staff are very friendly and very welcoming. The best advice to give if you're going on trips is to ignore the rep (dave- nice guy who's doing his job but is lying through his teeth to gain money for his company Thomson) look around before booking any trips because we found plenty of trips cheaper but we learnt too late. The water park bus is free from the marina and is only €17 on the door. Turkey bodrum is cheaper by looking around by the castle. The only exceptions were the zia by night and simply kos trips. These for us were very good and zia is simply beautiful as the sunsets (however the food next to the church isn't great but the view is fantastic!) the volcano trips ISN'T just a Thomson trips! However we never looked around to see If it were cheaper on other trips but seeing as though everyone we saw was we figured we'd lost our money by not shopping around first.
Therma is a must. The hot spring is simply fantastic and so is the sea (take a snorkel) the masseur Ivan is very good and cheap!

This is the best holiday we have been on . we have been to this hotel twice and reading all these right ups makes us wish we were there now. unfortunatly we cant go this year but have booked for next year.
The staff are great hotel is very clean the veg grows out the back , there are trees with fruit on, greek night is really good and so is the carvery. A visit to zia is a must . We hired a car for a week its not that hard driving on the wrong side of the road and a bike for a week . Kos town is lovely and there is a bakers on the way into kos which serves the most delicious cakes and ice cream. The food in kos is to die for especially the gyros wraps and platters.
see you all next september john and maria xx

Just got back from a week at the Niriides - which wasn't long enough. We had 2 weeks there in August 2011 and just had to go back there again this year. Not only is it a great hotel and apartments with a fab pool, but the staff there and the general feeling about the place are truly wonderful. We had a 2 bed apartment this year and there was plenty of space for me, my 18 year old daughter and my mum. The staff couldn't do enough for us and they even recognised us from last year. Roll on the summer holiday for 2013 - we will definitely be returning for a third time. I am dreaming of 3 weeks not 2 next year! I would strongly recommend this family hotel to anyone with a tast for relaxation and the superb Greek hospitality.

Room Tip: Rooms to the back of the pool area are more peaceful.
