Quiet Man Cong Caravan & Camping Park
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Spent two nights on the campsite, the employees were really supportive and nice - can't complain too much. The facilities seem a bit run down, however it's camping so i'm not expecting marble floors. A big plus is the public presentation of the quiet man.The WIFI connection was down very often, that might be a nuissance to travellers depending on being connected.

The management picture here is not related to the place we stayed. Is it the B+B across the road? This is confusing!

We camped at this hostel and campsite in mid-June 2014. Very well kept grounds, ample electricity and water points, welcoming staff. We found the kitchen, which is actually the hostel kitchen, really well stocked with multiple hobs and crockery (a few extra drying cloths wouldn't go astray). The toilets and showers were very clean. The site is in a great location because of its proximity to the quay -where you can enjoy a one hour cruise 365 days a year (at 11:15) or a longer boat trip (at 3pm)- and to the lovely village of Cong. We enjoyed the local cafes, pottered about the abbey, and would have loved more time to explore the nature trails in the woods. The campsite playground was a big hit with the children -it needs a little TLC to keep it looking good -standards of public playgrounds have soared in Ireland recently. (Lovely one in Cornamona which we discovered while out and about -complete with picnic tables). We'll be back! (By the way, the local Spar delivers to the hostel/campsite -how handy is that?!)

We camped here for a few nights and had a really wonderful time. Staff were friendly, facilities were clean, grass was short, and free WiFi. Perfect location - water in one direction, village in the other all within walking distance. There were also paths nearby that take you straight into the grounds of the castle without paying.
As there were not many camping while we were there, but the hostel was full, we were given the key to our own bathroom as the group of school kids were using the main ones - this was very kind, apart from the glass door, and the children sat at tables outside it to have breakfast and dinner, then as more arrived others were given the key - little bit awkward.
On the whole I loved Cong and would go back and stay there again.

my family and I love this place.its our home away from home.gerry and margareth always make us feel welcome and not a burden.the campsite is second to none really good camping facilities, and Gerry and margareth are always so helpful.theres really good shower blocks and camping cooking facilities also when we go there with my work we arrive late like 11 or 12 o,clock at nite late and theres no trouble just pull in and set up.we bring our caravan.the kids love the park there and when we do pull in late its into bed straight away.the village of cong is lovely and Gerry and margareth have extensive knowledge of the walks around ashford and surrounding area.every year we go there even if we holiday abroad, the children always want to go back and so does myself and the wife.the very first year we went to the cong festival as this is the place where the 1951 movie the quiet man with john wayne and Maureen o hara was filmed we stayed at this campsite, and we,ve been going back ever since.to Gerry and margareth thank u for making us feel at home.its also a place u can feel safe with your children and that means a lot now a days.if u ever wanted a place to get away from it all this is it and the people that run the place are salt of the earth type people.cant thank u enough for your hospitality, till next time.

We stayed for 4 nights.

The facilities are good and very clean. Paper towels in the toilets and better signage on the ladies' communal shower building, in my opinion, should be addressed. I mentioned the latter to my husband because I was concerned that someone could just walk in. When I read back through the reviews I saw this had happened and the problem has not been addressed. The wifi is, in my experience, only available just outside the hostel buildings. It was frustrating to have to hunt round to find someone to pay. The office is poorly manned.

I was surprised how quiet the site was. We stayed in high season.

I would stay here again but I think the owners should try to act more of the feedback from customers.

The town of Cong was a very nice and fun place to visit for a day. But a night in the caravan park was an unpleasant experience. The camp is in a beautiful location but the management is poor. The gates close at night at 11pm and we were not informed of that when we registered. Subsequently we had to park out on the street after coming back at midnight from a thoroughly enjoyable pub music evening. There are no power outlets in the bathroom/showerroom so no ability to dry hair, etc. There was no soap or hand dryers either. Plus you had to pay 1 Euro for a cold shower! We showered late at night so no reason the water should be cold. When we are paying 22 Euros for a tent site I don't expect another 1 Euro for a cold shower.

And that's a good indication of what it was for us. We stayed in the B&B. It was clean, with impregnable views on parkings on all sides of the house. People there are helpful, but the impression left at the moment of the booking, was the strongest: I had to write quite a number of emails before receiving an answer, and a price 25% over the one we finally found on a B&B web site in the meantime. We booked through the site. Nothing much to be said otherwise, other than the John Wayne obsession decorating every wall. Oh, and it is terribly noisy, with neighbours watching the John Wayne movie way into the night!
