Our family of four stayed in two rooms at the Ashford Castle. The experience was first rate and exceptional - every step of the way.

The property is unreal - a gorgeous castle on beautiful grounds situated on a lakefront. Everything is perfectly maintained - inside and out.

The staff was unbelievably attentive and helpful. We truly felt like royalty! We had an excellent dinner in the George V restaurant; and enjoyed archery, zip line and horseback riding - such a great place to take a family!

We'll most certainly be back!

You feel like a queen/king staying here. The service is unbelievable. If you meet any of the staff they ask you how you are doing, if you need anything, do you need assistance. The room was charming with historical feel. Highly updated with electronic gizmos which was surprising. Lovely turn down service. The breakfast buffet has anything you could want but you can also order from a menu. There are so many activities that you could be busy for a week just trying them all. Walking the grounds is a treat. The gardens are extensive and it is like you have a huge city park to yourself. The three restaurants cover anything you might be looking for.

Staff was most helpful and very courteous. We visited Ireland for our 27th anniversary and could not have asked for a better place to stay! Our room looked out onto the front lawns and boat house, which was lovely every morning and evening. The daily breakfast was nothing like the "continental" styles in the U.S.! Every morning you could order from the menu, do the buffet, cold cereals, cheese's, and the list goes on! So glad we stayed!

We started with a Drumshambo Gunpowder Gin in the lovely old panelled bar then on to Dinner in George 5th Dining Room for a special occasion with friends. Food was exceptional. Our dishes included Crab Ravioli and Wild Rabbit to start. We almost called for second portions of Mussel Soup because it was such a delicate and perfect blend of flavours. Main courses included lamb and duck all delicious and cooked to perfection with vegetable garnishes that were original, delicately flavoured and inventively presented. Peanut Butter Parfait was as nice as it was naughty. Breads, wines, table settings and service - everything was beyond superb. In particular the staff at Ashford are deserving of praise - for their courtesy, helpfulness, attention to detail, knowledge and professionalism.
One tiny reservation was the lamb. Although tasty and inventive, one of our guests who has eaten at AC before would like the wonderful Achill Island Black Face Lamb to be allowed to show off its natural flavor and tenderness without fancy cuts and flourishes or at least for a choice of lamb dishes to be offered. The lamb at Ashford Castle has always been one of its signature dishes.
Overall this was an exceptional night and the staff at Ashford Castle could give lessons the world over in how to make guests feel genuinely welcome and how to provide flawless service.

Room tip: Try for a view of the lake
