“Had a great day visiting the castle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2013

Had a great day exploring the grounds of Ashford castle and enjoyed an evening meal in the Cullens Cottage the views over the lough and looking at the castle really where spectacular, I would have like a round of golf on the course but didn't have time to fit it in. Hopefully on my next trip to Cong and the castle I will get to explore a little more.

“Lovely Champagne tea...”

We enjoyed a beautiful elegant but not stuffy high tea for 6. A great relaxing afternoon after walking in the area where the Quiet Man was filmed. Beautiful grounds and attentive staff.

“Beautiful Grounds/woods-just like Sherwood Forest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2013

High tea is lovely room with beautiful tapestry all around. Comfy huge chairs to relax in. Approximately 24 Euros. The grounds are beautiful, with a real mote. Watch the movie 'Quiet Man' before you come. It was filmed in this town of Cong. You can go to the museum in town-closes are 5 or 6, and go on a tour, and see many of the sites in the movie. While in town, be sure to go to the Roderick Abby, and WALK BACK to the Monk's fishing dock for fabulous river views, especially as the sun is setting. Absolutely beautiful. Then walk over the bridge through the stone archway into the woods. You will think you are in Sherwood's Forest. If you like walking in the woods, you will LOVE, LOVE this forest. The King of Ashford Castle planted many of the trees. I absolutely loved this place. One of my favorite memories of Ireland.

“Loved the food and atmosphere.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2013

I have always wanted to have "high tea" either in Ireland or England and Ashford Castle did not disappoint. A grand place indeed! Found the atmosphere quiet and relaxed, but not snooty! The display of treats was lovely visually and very tasty, thank you very much.

When doing a road trip around Ireland, it is important to scale back, slow down and just soak up the atmosphere of peace and serenity. Ashford Castle provided all of this quite competently and I'm glad we made the extra effort to go.

“High Tea Makes For a Fun Excuse to See the Castle Grounds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2013

Just returned from a 10-day road trip across Ireland with my mom. We considered staying overnight at Ashford Castle, but it was pricey and many of the reviews were less than stellar. The grounds are supposed to be stunning though, so we opted for a happy middle ground: afternoon tea in the castle drawing room.

Reservations were a breeze to make (we did them the morning of via telephone), and the drive out was pleasant. The grounds are gorgeously manicured; the interiors of the castle a little less so. Much of it looks old and dated, and the carpeting/seating in the drawing room is quite shabby. But ignore the dated/dowdiness of the interior and high tea itself is really fun. The food was solid and the atmosphere not nearly as snooty or fussy as one might expect. Taking tea here gives you a chance to see Ashford's interior and explore its grounds, without the cost of an overnight room. We're glad we did it.
