“Real forest walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

There is not much forest left in Ireland but if you are in Cong area chasing The Quiet Man scenery or staying at Ashford Castle you have a great chance to walk, smell, touch, explore, photograph a marvelous real unmanicured forest which is just behind the grounds of gorgeous Ashford. You can start the walking paths from the castle or from the bridge next to the fishing house behind the Abby in Cong. The shortest walk is along the river and it takes about 10-15 minutes, we enjoyed watching salmon from the bridge and have seen two families of swans: one family has four babies. Got lots of great pictures, the best was the fishing house at the Sunset. Even this short path may get wet after rain, so dance shoes are Not recommended! Longer path may take up to 1-2 hours and it goes deep into native forest, it is much cooler there, so you need a proper attire and walking or waterproof shoes! We found lots of opportunities for taking pictures including some ruins, horse riders may cross the path, so you watch out! We are glad we did it, it was a different experience to walk the Irish forest, not the park!

“Great Network of Hiking Trails from the Castle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

There is a great network of trails west of the castle. You can go for about as short or as long a hike as you want. Because it is partially on the grounds of the castle there are massive trees in the forest, which were stunning for someone like me used to hiking the Appalachain Trail. You can start your walk from town behind the Abbey to avoid the entrance fee to the castle grounds.

“wonderful walk from the castle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

It was a five to ten minute walk through a GORGEOUS forest path from Ashford Castle to Cong. The path is wide and well maintained. Cong is a very quaint village and we had a wonderful time there! Ashford and Cong were the highlights of our trip to Ireland!

Really enjoyed the walk through the area, the scenery is gorgeous and taking the time to stroll along the trail is peaceful and relaxing. Lot's of history and plants to capture your attention while taking in the fresh air.

“Fun and Informative”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

We took the Quiet Man Tour as my husband is a huge fan! It was expensive at 15 euros per person, but if you love the movie it is worth the money. We walked through the quaint town of Cong and the guide had in depth knowledge of the movie. My favorite part was dressing up at the end of the tour to take pictures in front of the fire place.
