Arrived on a Monday night. Hotel was quiet but reception staff were friendly. Allowed me to sit in the restaurant and order off the Conservatory Menu. The steak oloroso pie was excellent. Bar and waiting staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was cooked after ordering. A good portion of black pudding not just a slice. Poached egg just right. Only downside to stay was bath and shower. Can be a bit fiddly - my shower only worked after really turning the hot tap on the bath off hard but then worked fine. Any problems ring down and they will help.
Free wi-fi is a bonus. Good to see a hotel that gives a price that covers all room facilities. Would stay here again if in the area.

Very nice hotel in a lovely spot within walking distance of the town. We had a standard room which was well laid out, roomy and spotless. The staff were very efficient and polite. The bar and dining area were very nice and comfortable. The place is easy to find on the St Asaph to Denbigh road, about 3/4 mile out of St Asaph, sat nav will say take a turning at a farm, ignore this as the hotel is only 200 yards or so from the farm turning on the main road. I would stay here again.

I stayed at the oriel for a couple if days in February 2013. It was nice with a couple of exceptions. The milk and yogurt were room temperature when I went to breakfast and the floors and walls are thin so you hear every move of any guest that is coming and going. However, overall I loved this hotel. The staff was particularly exceptional and friendly and helpful. The water in the shower was good and hot and the bed was very very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this cute country place to stay. BTW the sea bass lunch I had there was exquisite and a super value for the money.

We went for a quiet break away and this was just the job. On arival we had a lovely friendly welcome, the hotel was fully explained to us and we were booked in for Dinner that evening. The room was a very good size (a superior room) huge bed good sized TV and really nice looking bathroom. Dinner was ok, but let down slightly by poor service, which was rather slow and not very professional. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced though. Breakfast was continental with a hot option, we never eat cooked breakfasts so the continental was excellent with lots of choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurts etc
The hotel was very friendly and clean and tidy, there is a spa but we didn't get time to use it as we were away from the hotel most of the time. The only slight disappointment was the shower had very low pressure so not very strong, it also took a while to fill the bath too.
On the whole a really nice stay and I would be very happy to return if I was in North Wales again as it was an excellent base, we got an excellent deal for 2 night stay but wouldn't have been as good if I had paid full price for the stay.

So here goes:-

Booked a week in advance, but Spa was fully booked so that was a shame, if you book the Hotel with a view to using the Spa, check first!

When we got into our 'Deluxe Room' there were brown marks on the Duvet and Towels, and the hallway stunk of gas! I was quite worried about this and immediately told the reception, they said they would get on the case. After a couple of hours nobody had come back to us even though the hallway leading to room 114 was stinking of gas. I was told that everything was OK. No apology or anything. The first night I slept one hour due to this smell of gas wafting into the room, I got up at 5.30am and spoke to one of the night staff, who informed me that the smell of gas was from the boiler inlet which was wafting back in. He also mentioned that a complaint had been made a couple of weeks ago, at 5.45am I went for a drive to clear the head! When I got back to the Hotel all the windows and fire doors were open, but the reception staff were adamant nothing was wrong, and still no apology!! All they had to say was I'm so sorry you feel this way rather than saying "there isn't a problem", if that's the case then why on earth would you open all the windows and doors? They didn't do to well with dealing with this.

Our Chicken and Pancetta starter had no Pancetta either.

Other than that the Hotel is really nice. Funny, when we came to check out the receptionist asked the guy in front to rate and review the hotel on trip advisor. But they didn't ask me to!

All I wanted was an apology rather than a denial and then this hotel would've got 4 out of 5.

Room Tip: Stay away from the Hallway leading to rooms 114,113,112

Saltrese, General Manager at Oriel Country Hotel & Spa, responded to this reviewResponded 24 February 2013

We take any feedback given by our guests very seriously, and at least three different members of staff during the course of this guest's stay apologised and each time offered a room move (with assistance with luggage) to a different area of the hotel. This was offered and refused at the initial report, during the night by our Night Manager, and the following day. Our maintenance team immediately investigated the problem but were unable to solve it there and then. We sincerely wish that this guest had accepted our offer at any point during his stay rather than continue to allow the issue to spoil his stay.

From the moment we walked into the hotel we were made to feel very special.
The staff were all very professional yet friendly.
The bedroom and on-suite was beautiful. The bed, which was a Super King, bedding and towels were pure luxury.
The breakfast was scrumptious.
The spa facilities were brilliant, sadly, we didn't get to use it as we were so busy, however next time we stay we shall make the time.
We wish we had stayed longer!!

recently stayed at the above for one night on business in the area,at reception we arrived behind a couple who looked as if they were on a walking trip, they received concise clear information on wifi, breakfast times etc from a pleasant mature lady, our check in from a younger receptionist was so quick and perfunctory we left reception before they walking couple, we couldn't see a lift so humped our bags upstairs ,could be an issue for older guests?.
the room was pleasant but decoratively a little tired, plenty of tea and milk which is a plus but no spoon to stir anything with( they did supply a pencil.)
the sign explaining where the shower cut off button is above the cut off button behind a wardrobe (pointless)
we found a light switch behind the tv,
didn't fancy paying £6.50 for soup so ate in the village.
not worth £80

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room, ground floor if you have mobility issues unless there is a lift ?
