“Nothing to recommend it!”

The appearance of our delux room was fine, however, the smell of the aerosol air-freshener was overwhelming. Only one bath towel provided for two of us. We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast at £150 for the night. The atmosphere in the dining room was depressing, dull and dreary, so we ate in the conservatory which was definitely more pleasant. While the fish was good, the shepherds pie was awful. The highlight of the breakfast was the fried eggs with deep-fat fried black pudding and sausage left uneaten. The building itself is a bit of a mess with many narrow corridors and sloping floors. The whole place has been cobbled together and lacks any character.

The best part of the stay was the warm welcome received from Mandy on reception. Sadly she told us she is leaving!

We were made very welcome on arrival and the receptionist was lovely. The room was large and comfortable if a little tired looking. Food in restaurant is top notch, and service spot on. Downsides - hotel could do with a bit of a refurb, lounge/conservatory area very cold, and has absolutely zilch atmosphere. No music, no ambiance, really lets the hotel down.

I visited the Oriel Hotel for the first time in 5 years last week as part of a work conference and nothing has changed.
The carpark is a decent size but without clear signage.
The exterior always looks fairly impressive but some of the windows appear in need of urgent attention.
The welcome at the front desk was positive, and the conference hall itself was roomy but again the corners need maintenance plus the wedding adornments from the ceiling seemed little in keeping with a medical conference!
The downstairs toilets smelled fresh and they were clean.
The catering was exemplary but the haphazard queuing system good be much improved.
A very happy 4/5.

Two night stay on a groupon deal, Pleasant stay the room was clean and fresh and the bed really comfortable. Used the restaurant and the food was excellent. Couldn't say the same at the hotels sister restaurant the Bridge in St Asaph. We stopped here on our way to the hotel for lunch and although having a good setting and well decorated the food was a let down.

We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed the hotel and would return.

Stayed for two nights mid week.We found the staff very helpful. The room and bathroom were very clean and spacious. Lovely clean linen and fluffy towels. We had continental breakfast in the hotel which was in the price, if you want full English it was only £4 extra.
The hotel was very central to visit the coast and the lovely country side.
The hotel had a lovely spa and swimming pool, we didn't use it as we were not there long enough
It is well worth a visit if you are in that area.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have good views from the windows

We stayed in this hotel on a Groupon deal (Room 105) and had a nice relaxing time. The room itself was large and had everything you would need for your stay, including ironing board & iron, hairdryer, toiletries, free wifi, tea & coffee etc. The staff were friendly and attentive and made us feel right at home. I agree with some of the comments on here that it looked a little tired and in need of a lick of paint in parts but, hey, that's like nearly every hotel I've ever stayed at! Would recommend and return for a further visit x

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room

My partner and I stayed at the Oriel House Hotel in February 2014 for 2 nights in a superior room. Upon arrival we were pleased. The room was nice, very clean and spacious with neutral decor and high ceilings and a big flat screen sony tv. I was pleasantly surprised with the complimentary hot chocolate in the room and the miniature toiletries and sewing kit etc. the beds were comfortable although I did notice our 'king' or 'queen' size bed (as advertised) was actually two singles pushed together, it didn't make much difference though I'm a terrible sleeper and I slept ok. We stayed in room 105 and found it to be quite quiet. The shower was very powerful and the bathroom was clean.
We were really pleased with the breakfast, there's loads of choice, cereals, fruit, toast, yogurts, pastries, meats, cheeses and a few cooked options which are very good and would definitely recommend. The dinner menu isn't huge but the chef seems to be very good and we enjoyed all our meals here.
The pool is not huge and I can imagine would feel a little crowded at busy times however there were only a few others when we visited. The sauna seats 2 so you may need to wait, however it was nice to have it to ourselves.
We really enjoyed and would recommend the massages, very reasonably priced and good value. We booked via a Groupon deal and got 15% off of our treatments which was another nice surprise.
St Asaph is a good location, with it being not far from Betws y Coed and Snowdonia National Park it's great for walking and outdoor pursuits and it's not too far from M6 & M5 with stunning routes in between. Overall, if we were to go back to St Asaph I would stay here again.
