“Good coastal park.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

We stayed in a 2 star cottage for a week. We have stayed with yelloh before and this is the biggest yelloh site we have been to. It seemed well organised and efficient. The cottage itself was clean and basic. The park is right next to the cote sauvage which is a great expanse of beach. The shop is very well stocked and the pool is great for children. There are lots of on site facilities and evening entertainment. The take away was decent and good value. The whole area is quite touristy/beach/camp site focused. We wanted to hire bikes but they had all gone on the first day and the bike hire person was not very helpful. Overall a good option for families wanting a beach holiday. We did not have fabulous weather and felt that this limited our sight seeing options a little. Great beach for body boarding but might not be so great for very young children.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a bay view. Take a bike and a body board. If male, no board shorts allowed in pool and...

We stayed for 1 week in a 4-star lodge - which was so nice we couldn't believe it was ours at first. The campsite is well looked after, clean, organised and always felt safe and secure - but still was able to retain a healthy informality. Absolutley great for a low-key holiday.

Campsite facilities were good; shop, take-away, and restaurant were all fine. Pool bar closed early (20:00) which is a shame as it was a nice place to sit. Both the pool and the organised on-site activities were better for younger kids (less than 12) than teens. Not much seating available around the pool compounded by the selfish 'reserving' of sun loungers with towels (grrr)

The surrounding area is lovely, La Palmyre has lots to offer in terms of places to eat and things to do. But the real star of the area is the beach, which is outstanding. Walking there from the campsite takes only 5 minutes and the nearest spot (beneath the lighthouse) has lifeguards on duty.

Room Tip: Pick a 4-flower lodge

This campsite had lots to recommend it - the position is second to none with direct beach access (and what a beach!) meaning we only ventured out in the car 3 times in a fortnight. The pool isn't spectacular but kept all six children in our party (aged 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15) happy for the whole time. The toilet and shower facilities weren't de luxe but they were clean (mostly) and effective. The shop wasn't cheap but it was well stocked and the croissants were baked on site.

The only issue we had was abundant and persistent insects which bit us liberally every evening and morning. We tried long sleeved and legged clothing, citronella candles and repellant but the only respite was going to bed meaning long lingering glasses of wine whilst admiring the stars were out.

We had pitches near the top of the site which meant everything was quite close.

We chose this camp-site due to its location. I had been going to this particular area if France since I was a child, and recently, my husband and I have enjoyed many holidays on a municipal camp-site south of soulac sur mer. Unfortunately as you can't book the municipal camp-site we chose this one instead due to its proximity to the coast and good surf. The camp-site itself was reasonable with a pool and play area to amuse the kids. Toilet facilities were reasonable and our pitch certainly had plenty of shade (possible too much). I guess your experience of the site would veryuch depend on where you were placed.

However, it was weird to discover the lack of evening entertainment and the bar by the pool closed at 8:30pm!

Access to the beach was also difficult with surf boards and a 2 year old in tow, particularly if you were at the far end of the camp-site as we were.

The other major downside for us was the traffic jams caused by the la palmyre zoo which made going out for day trips frustrating as we endured hour long queues most days to get back to the camp-site.

It will definitely be back to the municipal camp site at le gurp in future.

We selected this campsite after spending a few days at a yelloh campsite in Normandy, which we were very impressed with. This however did not live up to expectations and we were sorely disappointed. On the day of arrival we were greeted by a reasonably friendly but indifferent receptionist, who upon taking us to our pitch, had very little idea of the site boundary or where the electricity posts were, there was a notable lack of ownership as she claimed she had only been there a few weeks and this was a temporary position and she could not be expected to answer our questions re the pitch. To describe the pitches as having electricity is pushing it a little and you will need at least a 25m extension cable as some of the electricity posts are no where near the pitches.

It did not stop here, our biggest issue was the lack of sufficient sanitary facilities on the site particularly at the end of the site where we were located, they were wholly inadequate for peak season and a busy site, and not cleaned anywhere near often enough. Night time was the worst with queues to use toilets, showers and even dish washing basins.
One of just 4 toilet cubicle doors remained unlockable and the toilet roll dispensers were often either empty or unusable at night! I couldn't help but feel that Yelloh must know this but had taken the views to milk their assets as much as possible.
The pool rules mandated bathing trunks for men on the grounds of hygiene, yet the toilets and changing facilities at the pool did not possess a single handbasin to wash your hands after visiting the toilets!

The shop is well stocked but very expensive, for example a pack of ice cubes I was charged €3.80. Very cynical in our view.
Well seasoned campers may already be aware of the following... Pitching a tent on what is essentially a sand spit in a Maritime and often rainy area means that it is difficult to firmly affix to the ground.
We did just about manage this however bear in mind that everytime it rains the combination of sand and water is muddy and unpleasant, not to mention the state of the tent when we had to take it down after a thunderstorm!!

It should be said that this area is genuinely beautiful and this campsite could be so much better were it not for the curiously regimented feel and inflexibility of some of the services provided.

All in all we cut short out 11 night stay here by 5 nights due to the above factors.

We loved this campsite. Its location is superb - right on the beach and beside a lighthouse. We found the reception staff excellent and facilities spotless. Would visit this campsite again. The pizzas from the onsite takeaway were expensive but really delicious and the shop was among the best stocked for a campsite. There were great cyclepaths in the area too.
