“Superb Stop-over”
Reviewed 17 July 2012

We stayed here as a familly enroute from Bergamo airport to the region of Tuscany. The hotel accepted us with a warm welcome fairly late in the evening and provided us with a double and triple room which were magnificent. Spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, characterful, quaint and well-fitted. Best of all, the price, really excellent value for money, with a lavish breakfast included.

Room Tip: All rooms were great. No need to bring hair-dryer, shampoos or anything !

It is a beautiful place to visit, almost hard to find. There is a limited access to the Internet so we had some problems using it (it is not FREE btw.). The best thing about the hotel is basically its location! I would probably come back there.

I stayed here back in July 2011 and it was very good, but it is easy to judge on just a single visit, but based on that experience, I booked again, this time in the February snow of 2012. Everything was as before, good sized and clean room, small balcony. Bathroom was large, clean and functional, but just a shower, no bath.

Internet access in the room is extra at 5 euro a day, but there is a free machine near the reception. Ample free parking, and located in nice gardens. Breakfast was very good with variety and quality.

Long walk from reception to room. Struggling to find anything bad to say, and a great room rate too, especially as was hardly high season. Knew I’d think of something, the restaurant. It has never been open in either of my visits, so a drive to one of the nearby villages and towns is required, and Monday night is always particularly challenging, as most eating establishments are closed.

Excellent hotel tucked away 15 minutes by car South of Bergamo.

Stunning grounds (ideal for weddings). Rooms well appointed, ample and tasty breakfast (hot and cold buffet).

Car essential... worth exploring nearby towns and villages.

Bergamo itself is a real gem.

This hotel is very beautiful and peaceful, but the amenities and comforts were lacking. The rooms were extremely warm with no option to change the temperature. The restaurant was only open a couple nights a week and didn't open until later in the evening. There is nothing close by and limited options in the hotel for refreshments (there was a "mini-bar" in the room with some waters and sodas, but they were warm). Internet access was pretty expensive, 10 Euros a day.

I stayed here whilst visiting Bergamo for a break from a very stressful period and it offered exactly what I needed. It is quiet with lovely airy rooms and views over the beauitiful well kept gardens. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. The staff are helpful too. All in all highly recommend it, only it is not ideal if you do not have your own transport. It is not close to any amenities and quite a distance from the town and airport. If you are looking for a peaceful stay then this is the ideal place.

Not often that I can find no fault with a hotel, but La Muratella is certainly one of them. Spent four nights here and can’t find anything to its detriment. Large hotel, but long and low, rather than tall, fitted into a beautiful old italian villa and surrounding buildings, set within equally beautiful gardens. Room was a good size for Italy, but not huge. No bath, just a shower, Good breakfast. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
I am in the Bergamo area several times a year and usually stay within the city, or occasionally at the airport, but would most certainly use La Muratella again.
If you’re going to Bergamo for the “upper city” then this probably isn’t the right hotel for you as without a car (20 minute drive away) you would (a) struggle to get to the hotel, as it’s 15km from the airport, away from the city, and not on the bus route, and (b) you need a car to go anywhere from this location. If you want a good hotel, reasonably priced, as a base to explore Lombardia, and are hiring a car, then this could give you all you want.
Did not use the “wellness” facilities, so cannot comment. I believe there is a “hot-tub” but no pool. Internet access in room was an extra 5 euro per day.
