We stayed two nights at the Merlet and had a very pleasant stay. We had chosen one of the superior rooms but when we arrived they had allocated us one of the suites, which we were very pleased with. Although the style wasn't to our taste, the room was extremely spacious, had a south-facing balcony and was at the end of the corridor and was very very quiet, which was perfect.
The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast was varied and plentiful, bike hire was free and the pool looked inviting, although in the end we didn't go in.
The hotel is famous for its restaurant and Grand Café. We ate at the Grand Café on the second night, but were disappointed by the lack of imagination for the vegetarian main course and the average meat dish, which was supposed to be accompanied by a "variation of rocket". There was some rocket in the potato, but that was it. Although the service was very good, the food wasn't really as good as we had been expecting (we only ate at the Grand Café, though, not in the Michelin-starred restaurant, which I expect is much better...)
All in all a very well-equipped hotel perfectly located in the centre of Schoorl. Recommended.More
