Recommended from friends we stayed there for a week.
Positive: Superb, clean beach with dedicate staff to maintain it clean. Good equipment of the rooms, nice archtiecture. Maintenance of the huts and flats clearly above standard. Also positive, the helpfulness of staff members.
Average: food, all the pasta was served without a slice of tomato, a leaf of basil or something like this. Fish is always overcooked, side dishes are loveless.
Organisation is a catastrophy. After a few days the pool was green and could not be used, both 'bosses' were rude and not really helpful but harrassed their staff (one of the bosses more or less just curved around with his cars). Breakfast was probably above itialian standard (coffee and croisssant), but was way below 4 star standard. Every day something was finished and not available.

We stayed at this hotel for five nights at the beginning of September, having booked a "suite" through a Southern Italy specialist travel agency in the UK. The "suite" was really just a generous size room with balcony. Bizarrely there is a large open hole in the wall between the bathroom and bedroom so everything that goes on in the bathroom can be heard in the bedroom. Likewise the bathroom backs onto a communal corridor and has an opening window so anyone in the corridor can hear/smell what goes on in the bathroom (a tall person could actually SEE what's going on in the bathroom). Unsurprisingly, that window stayed shut throughout!!

Our "suite" had a balcony over-looking the amazing bay and watching the sunsets from the balcony was a treat. The Lido style beach was clean and well-tended with ample loungers and chairs (although as it was nearing the end of the season the hotel was maybe 1/5th full at best so you could take your pick, might not be quite so easy in high season). You can take a 10 minute walk along the beach to the next small resort which has a cheap, and friendly, beach bar.

Staff speak little English, but we speak little Italian so no issue there, we all muddled along waving arms and pointing at items on menus. The young lads serving in the restaurant were keen and helpful.

But the food was the real disappointment. Every pasta dish was at best al dante, at worst under-cooked. Correspondingly, a couple of fish dishes were so over-cooked it was like eating baby food as it was so mushy. the food was very, very simple and considering the areas reputation for fresh food the standard here was underwhelming.

Overall, the hotel was clean, efficiently run but let down by a few odd design features and the food. Be aware the hotel is split in two..some rooms (ours included) are down on the beach with the restaurant, whilst others are several 100metres away up a very steep hill where the swimming pool is likewise located.

In summary, lovely location and beach. Ordinary standards. our recommendation: use it as a base to sleep and sunbathe but eat elsewhere.

Room Tip: Get a room in the lower, beach-side, buildings.

After reading the reviews for this hotel I knew what to expect and, coming prepared, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We love the sea... being near the sea, in the sea and hearing and smelling the sea!
We were a family of 5, 3 children aged 5, 8, 16 ... and we had 2 rooms on the ground floor with a door out to a garden overlooking the beach.
The views are breathtaking, the beach and sea beautiful... and eating breakfast or having a drink on the patio alongside the beach, well, it doesn't get better than that.
You need a car. Sight seeing is easy with a simple and well built road system. The road across the mountains we took to Gerace was spectacular- an amazing 50km mile bridge.
The staff speak no English... but with a bit of Romanian, Spanish and miming we got by. The breakfast is basic and the walk up the hill/stairs from the restaurant to the rooms is taxing... and not for those in bad health! My kids basically ran up... but we didn't!
There were definitely rules! I cried laughing reading the long list of rules next to the pool. It's the type of thing that goes viral on the web! But we were out of season and unsupervised! So my kids splashed, shouted and wore no caps!
Having said all that- we had a lovely time! The area is beautiful, the local towns charming and the beaches among the best in Europe.
We found the staff helpful and interested. They made sure we were happy with the room arrangement with the kids, were happy to recommend day trips and let us keep a room til 13:00 the day we checked out. Other families that wanted the room until the end of the day paid 50 Euros- which I though seemed fair.

We were a bit wary about booking this location based on reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. The location in not really Briatico, but not uncommon in the Italian seaside areas - but the beach was spectacular! We were met at reception by Mr. Biagio, who was very friendly. Our room was Huge, clean & modern with outdoor terrace on 2nd floor where we watched the sunset over Stromboli nightly! It is a cliffside resort, so be prepared to walk lots of steps or take your car! The breakfast was simple, but ample. We had dinner one night at the resort, by choice - it was good but pricey. I agree with other review regarding the cost for "club" priveleges, but keeping in mind that beach umbrella/chair rates average @15 Euro/day was not outrageous, but you should have your own beach towel or there is a 4Euro/day charge, not mentioned on site. Reception kindly booked us a mini cruise to the Aeolian Islands including pickup/drop off at hotel - Amazing!

Room Tip: Stayed at the 190 block - maybe newer?

My Wife & I stayed here for 2 nights whilst on our Honeymoon.

Below are some comments all travelers should be aware of:

1.Location and Vista in Briatico is great however this is the only positive.
2.Staff were rude and un-accomodating.
3.The food provided in the restaurant was not of a high quality yet was expensive.
4.There were very few staff that spoke english for a 4 star facility.
5.There was a clear difference in the treatment of people who stayed at the B&B and the Villaggio.
6.Beware all customers there is a compulsory club card for access to the beach which the staff do not provide at check-in or tell you about. They are only interested in the extra money for this. Please note it is unreasonable to provide accommodation on a beach and then charge your guests to use the beach.
7.Beware if you wish to use the minibar and stock it with your own items you will be charged for misuse as is noted above the minibar in the room. This tells you enough about the quality of the people running this establishment.
8.Water pressure from the shower is poor and the hand wash basin does not drain properly.
9.As there are a lot of mosquitoes and insects there are no fly screens provided to openings which will not be good for families with kids.
10.The breakfast provided is of a poor quality and should not be considered as 4 star.
11.Parking on site is difficult and if you are unlucky you will find you will be walking a fair distance on not so easy terrain to your room.
12.General service and attitude of the people working in this facility is poor.

Room Tip: Request to stay at beach level if staying at this facility however I would suggest finding accommoda...

In a way it is true what somebody wrote before – the hotel is really in the middle of the nowhere. But it is beautiful and everything looks new and well maintained, the close neighbourhood is clean and the complex gives a feeling of harmony. Something which cannot be said about some even more expensive hotels we have visited in the area. So we were really happy to have chosen Lido San Giuseppe. Admitted it’s not the best choice if you want to go out in the evening, in this case obviously something in Tropea would be more convenient. Here you have to go with car and it takes some 15-20 minutes to Tropea, beautiful place with many restaurants and bars. But for us with two children of 4 and 6 it was an ideal place. We have been staying in the hotel in the mid of June and we have enjoyed especially the pool in the upper part of the complex – and we have had it practically only for us. It takes some five minutes to go the stairs from the bottom part to the upper part of the complex. We were very satisfied with the food and have found the staff very friendly and helpful.

We were welcomed by a very friendly manager and receptionist who provided us with maps, restaurant recommendations and a brief description of the local area.

As the headline suggests, a car is essential when staying at Lido San Giuseppe. The road (loosely defined!) down to the reception area is very steep but don't let that put you off as there is a lovely beach waiting for you at the bottom. We stayed in one of the (six) rooms with the private balcony. The room itself was very spacious, air-conditioned, an all in all very pleasant. The only complaint would be that the bathroom didn't smell overly fresh; I believe there may have been a problem with the drains. However, this may have been because we stayed out of season and it didn't impact upon our stay.

Breakfast was basic but tasty enough (cappuccino, croissant and toast with various spreads). We didn't stay past check-out but I believe there is a EUR 10 charge to stay on the beach once you have checked-out.

Recommended if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing escape.

Note: if you are driving back to the airport from Pizzo, if possible, do not take the A3 - there is a very confusing road layout between exiting the dual carriageway and reaching airport (we ended up taking a wrong turn and going back 15km in the wrong direction along the A3!). There is an alternative route, which runs parallel (ish) to the A3 and from which the airport is well signed.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms with private balcony, we stayed in one at no extra cost.
