“An excellent hotel in a great location”
Reviewed 16 July 2011

In the centre of a charming village overlooking the village green it is in a stunning location. We didn't actually stay but talking with people who were staying they were delighted with their room.
There is a large restaurant area with table but the bar area has tables also and the same menu is served at both. The large corner table opposite the bar seats at least seven and ensures that you sample the ambience of the local hostelry.
The food is excellent - quite outstanding - and very reasonably priced. The duck breast confit was to die for! The service matched the the standard of the food and was attentive without being intrusive.
To write this review on Tripadvisor is probably the wrong thing to do - it will be difficult to get a table in future!

Me and my girlfriend,deceided,to go out,for a meal,in my classic American Camaro V8 car,and wanted somewhere,within about 50 miles.
We only eat, real food, and not rubbish like, two for £10,so consulted the "The Good food Guide 2011",for recommendations.
after looking,we deceided,to give,"The Devonshire Arms",at Long Sutton,a go.
We rang up,and booked,a table, and asked about their menu,as well.
We had,a slight bit of trouble finding,but found in time,to witness,a great setting,in a square,with the early-evening sun,still out.
Entrance was not well marked, but once inside,we found a classy bar, with a great selection of beer's.
They even stocked, some of my favourites from Belgium-Chimay,which is 9 per cent, and Leffe, too!!!
We checked menu,and ordered,and within a short-time,were asked to go to our table,which was very classy,and clean,too!
Our starter soups arrived, but was a bit tepid, but not cold.
Our main courses were a piece of art,and were tasty, and hot, too!
I ordered two desserts,as one is never, enough, and they were very good.
Waitresses were very good, and helpfull, and the bill came to £75,with two drinks each, and an extra side salad.
This is not perfect value, but food, service, and ambience were near perfect!
Will we be back-Yes!!!
Obviously,we didnot sample their rooms,so can't comment!!!

Stayed here for a couple of days, to celebrate our wedding anniversary and used it as a base for touring Natioinal Trust properties in the surrounding area.
Booked the hotel online and arrived to a lovely room overlooking the terraced garden, ideal spot for a pre dinner G & T.
The food was really good, we ate both nights in the restaurant, all fresh produce. (the full breakfast was also a treat)
All the staff were brilliant, very helpful and friendly.
Would definitely recommend this hotel

This Hotel was a chance find by accident. A last minute booking for my wife and I. A two night stay with B&B and evening meal £280. The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. Nothing was to much trouble. Every effort was made to make our stay enjoyable. The room was large, very clean. The bed was huge and very comfortable. A good view over looking the village green. Very quite. The best bit about the stay was the food. The menu was excellent. Great cooking and presentation. The freshness of local produce was evident. The waitresses were beyond belief helpful and new the menu to give good recommendations. If I had to give slight constructive critisisim I would suggest perhaps a cloth table cloth and napkins to replace the paper ones that were being used. But minor detail when the food was so good.

Beautful spacious room, modern interior but corner room No. 2 on main road so some traffic noise early morning, although this is a small village so very quiet at other times.

The food and real beer are superb and staff friendly and efficient. Breakfast a treat.

Would definitely recommend and not hesitate returning.

Did not stay here, just had an evening meal which was great and could not be faulted. I had the lamb which was so tender. Service was good too.

I was booked into this hotel because the one that was booked for me was overbooked. What an absolutely lovely place to stay. The gardens are beautiful as are the bedrooms. I have stayed in lots of hotels and this small pub/bar/hotel is comparable to a 4-5 star hotel. The rooms are spotless, sheets so soft and the pillows lovely. The bathroom is clean and the showers very powerful.

The food has a reputation for being outstanding, and that is absolutely true. The chef evidently loves his job, the chocolate fondant is to die for. It was like dining in an upmarket expensive london restraunt.

The staff are a little aloof, however, that is not a bad thing as they leave you alone. Having said that if I asked for anything I got it immediately.

Breakfast is lovely, bread is wonderful. I highly recommend this as the place to stay. I will be staying here again and look forward to it already.

Highly recommended.
