We loved Everything about this place, lunch time we had one of the best tapas in Spain in the hotel La Posada just over the bridge. Had a good walk then later that day we went to a fab restaurant we chose the El Kiosco bar restaurant very pleasant and helpful staff. Great atmosphere, easy parking. well recommended.

The most striking thing about this area is the azure blue of the lakes. It is a truly beautiful sight. Take some time to visit the lakes, there is not much commercialisation so you can really get away from it all - go for a swim or use one of the limited number of pedalos & canoes to explore. This is a great place for a picnic and ideal for families. Make sure you drive on to El Chorro to see the dam and the gorge - another fascinating area!!
Highly recommended.

If you want Peace and tranquillity this is the place to be. To get away from the hustle and bustle of the coast and enjoy nature, this is one off the best locations there is.

You can approach the lakes from Ardales by taking MA-5403/MA-444 towards El Chorro. There are plenty of pull-in areas by the side of the road that provide [scrambled] access to the lake and a few places to rent pedalos, but we went to the dam at the [northern] end of the lake (past the turn off to El Chorro), where you will find a restaurant, El Kiosco, a small car park and steps to the lake.
Behind the restaurant is the start of a circular walk of 4.2km (mostly shaded) that takes about 2 hours. We were there at the end of August and it was not very busy. Other than a few flies, we were not troubled by insects. There was a pleasant breeze most of the time and the water was cool and clear.
It is worth driving on toward El Chorro. As you approach the village you will be able to see the Camino del la Rey walkway that is pinned to the gorge face on the other side of the small lake from the road.
