The other reviews are thorough, so won't reiterate everything.

The setting is stunning. Great views over Lago di Garda and the hills. Sunset drinks on the terrace are not to be missed. The bedrooms are clean, well-serviced and well equipped (other reviews mention that there is no AC, but this is 1) in Europe and 2) an eco-friendly setup, so to be expected).

We found the food to be very good. However, it was not a typical Italian experience in the sense of finding local flair. The kitchen does, however, attempt to address this with their "Italian tradition" selections. It was a little bit like being on a cruise. Plenty of good choice, but you are a somewhat captive audience. There is the van into town, but we had dinner included and spent a number of days out in the mountains and towns, so decided to have dinner at the hotel.

I recommend this place if checking in and forgetting the rest of the world is your thing. The few spa treatments we had were also top notch. It is hard not to relax and unwind here. If want a base for exploring the towns of the lake, then maybe not.

The staff were very attentive and service is at a very high standard. Try to speak some Italian to the staff and it will pay dividends!

We stayed at the Lefay for 4 nights at the start of our honeymoon and on the whole it met our expectations as the perfect place to unwind and relax. It is a bit of a trek up to the hotel from the small town of Gargnano but the views such a hill-side location offer make it well worth it. Was so nice relaxing in the infinity pool with a fantastic view of the lake. Although the location does at times feel a bit isolated the hotel do offer a free (well in the day anyway) shuttle bus to and from Gargnano.

We stayed on a half-board basis – the hotel restaurant Limone provided excellent efficient and friendly service and the food was generally excellent. Maybe not Michelin-starred status (for that you’ll have to visit La Tortuga restaurant in Gargnano centre) but I’d certainly consider it a ‘fine dining’ experience. My only recommendation would be the ambience could be improved a little by dimming the lighting which was a bit too bright.

The infinity pool is heated and clean and as mentioned earlier offers stunning views of the lake. The whirpool never got too crowded either. Warning - poolside drinks and snacks are very expensive so be prepared for this. The Spa facilities were very good. Look out for last minute offers on tree outside spa (tend to knock 20% off the price). My wife had one of the best ever body massages here.

Surprisingly they have no wireless internet access in the rooms, it's available only in the bar area. Not a major issue for us as when we wanted to occasionally check our emails etc. as there were a couple of desktops by the side of reception available but I could see how it could annoy some people.

The hotel is advertised as fully air-conditioned but we found the system not particularly effective. the ventilation is not fan-based i.e. the cool air naturally circulates around the building. The can only be adjusted from -3 to +3 of the building temperature. We found, for our tastes anyway, the room insufficiently cool so we requested a floor-fan.

Generally a very high standard hotel , okay the room rates reflect that but I think in this case you get what you pay for. Overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay in stunning surroundings. Recommended for a couple on honeymoon.

Don't be fooled by the hotel's description of it's location or trust google maps. Gargano it isn't. Yes, you have to get to Gargano first - then turn off up the mountain road for 6 kilometres of winding mountain road. You get there 15 minutes after turning off the lakeside road. But once you get there it's worth it. The views over Lake Garda are spectacular. The hotel is best described as exclusive in terms of getting in and out. Unless you're a guest, they won't let you in through the electric gates. It seems to be familiar to the Italians, Germans and Russians (plenty of Russians!). However, delightfully, there was only one other Brit couple I could identify in the hotel and he was a senior cabinet minister.

Don't be put off by their website claiming it to be a no smoking resort. Ashtrays everywhere (out of doors only of course apart from the cigar bar).

Late breakfasts were great and sustained one through to dinner - which was nice without being spectacularly good. I think that was something to do with the ambience of the restaurant which was somewhat lacking. However the food was very high quality and certainly plentiful.

Service was great (apart from arrival welcome which was a bit lukewarm). Two other gripes - no WiFi so iPad was useless. I can't believe a hotel of this calibre doesn't provide WiFi - on health grounds would you believe! - when there is more cigarette smoke around the place than is good for anyone, including a smoker. The other minor gripe is that you couldn't quit e get the rooms cool enough. Standard zircon setting was 24 degrees and you can adjust 3 degrees either way but a minimum of 21 just wasn't cool enough.

Overall definitely a place I would go back to for rest relaxation and peace. A car is a must just in case you can be bothered to leave the beautiful setting and go shopping into Salo which has the best shops in the area.

Room Tip: Get a ground floor garden room rather tan one with a balcony

The building and setting are beautiful and the room could not be faulted. Everything was spotless and there was a plentiful supply of clean towels twice a day.
HOWEVER: -
- the wi-fi is limited to one room in the bar - not good enough for a '5-star' hotel in 2011. They also have a ridiculous system of horribly convoluted passwords that have to be entered every time you log on. They have the facility for internet connection with cables in the rooms but who has equipment that needs that sort of connection these days?
- the hotel is 6km up the hill from the nearest town, which is not clear from the website. So you are faced with eating every night in the hotel's one restaurant or forking out 85 Euros for the round trip into town in a shared minibus
- the shuttle into town is advertised in the in-room information leaflet as being free. We took it down into town one evening and were not told that there was an 85 Euro charge until it was added to our bill at the end of our stay
- the food in the hotel restaurants is not 5-star standard and very expensive for what it is. The staff at this hotel should be sent to the Sporthotel Sertorelli in Cervinia or the Sporthotel Edelweiss in Obertauern to find out how to do breakfast and dinner buffets to perfection
- it is impossible to get a seat near the windows in the non-air-conditioned restaurant in the evenings unless you have booked the all-inclusive package. Sitting away from the windows is a very hot and stuffy experience
- although the staff are keen to sell the spa services, it was near impossible to get an appointment. I had a manicure and a facial, both late in the evening as that was the only time I could get appointments. The nail varnish from my manicure lasted only two days, which was disappointing, as it was the shortest time I have ever known a manicure to last and at 50 Euros, it was hardly cheap.
- the staff kept assuming we were German. Admittedly, they do have a lot of German guests but a 5-star establishment should take note of this sort of thing and should be aware that mistaking them for Germans is not the way to win the hearts of British guests.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for staying at our property and for the useful comments.

We would like to inform you that most of the points outlined by this review are clearly outlined in our website (under the section Useful information).

1. The free shuttle service from/to Gargnano is available from 10 am to 7 pm. Transfers outside this schedule are charged.
2. According to our global wellness philosophy and in order to limit the electromagnetic exposure of our guests we decided not to introduce Wi-Fi facilities inside the Resort, but to provide guests with free in-room cable connection. As we are aware that many guests are equipped with wi-fi only devices (such as iphone, ipad), there is a free wi-fi connection in the living room.
3. The location of the Resort is clearly visible in the map that you can see in the "Location" page of our website.
4. The Restaurant has a limited amount of window tables, whose availabilty depends on the Resort occupancy and dinner time. However we can reassure you that there is no priority for Guests with half-board rates.
5. SPA Treatments availability: the Lefay Resort is a SPA Destination, therefore the occupancy of the SPA therapists is always very high especially during week-ends and high season. That's why, both on the website and on the booking correspondence, we advise guests to book spa treatments in advance if they have preferred schedules.

We apologize for adressing you in the wrong language.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again to our Resort. Meanwhile we send you our best regards from Lake Garda.

My husband & I had an unexpected 'child free' week and wanted to book somewhere quiet and special..we could not have made a better choice !
We didn't arrive until 11pm, but even then the check in was very personal, with the receptionist showing us to our rom and pinting out other deatures of the hotel along the way. Our room was stunning, with beautiful views of the lake. There were always plenty of sunbeds available, if not by the poolside in the lovely gardens.
The gym was well equipped and, as keen runners, we used the outdoor running trail every day. The spa is of as high a standard as I've ever experienced. I had 2 different treatments while I was there and both were first class ( tip..there is a little tree by the spa reception and they tie last minute offersn on there, so if you keep checking you can pick up a treatment with about 25% off list price ).
The food was excellent and we had a great waitress who made some good recommendations to us each night. Drinks in the bar are accompanied by lovely nibbles and after dinner we always had a coffee and a nightcap back down in the bar where they were served with lobely handmade chocolates.
We had intended to explore, but once we were there we didn't want to leave..so apart from one fab day and evening in Verona we didn't move.
The only downside was not being able to zip my jeans up when we were leaving, on account of the fabulous food !
A great find..we will definately return.

Perfect place to stay to explore lake Garda. We stayed for 6 nights for our honeymoon. The hotel is well away from the touristy and tacky resorts of the south and east of the lake. The village of gargnano is a 10 minute drive down the mountainside. It is also a short hop to the wonderful town of salo. The hotel is up on the side of the mountain and the climate is cooler than the lake front. The hotel has three pools - the infinity pool is stunning and has an incredible view over the lake. The room was modern and a good size. The staff were attentive and there was a relaxed atmosphere in the hotel. The only downside was the food in the restaurant and pool side which was not good value and very overpriced (the prices for the restaurant were on a par the the michelin starred restaurant In gargnano below). The exchange rate for a UK visitor doesnt help, but we ordered two club sandwiches at the pool side which cost nearly £30. The other downside is that some of the sauna facilities require an extra charge which hasn't been the case in other hotels and have to be booked at specific times. I don't think this was clear from the brochure. We didn't use any of the steam rooms but apparently the spa insists that you are nude when using them. This isn't everyone's cup of tea. However, overall it was an excellent hotel and we had a lovely stay
