We stayed in one of the Premium Junior Suites in the villa with views over the lake, and loved it. The suite was a good size and beautifully furnished. Dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant was a joy but for a more modest and authentic Italian experience book a table at one of the many restaurants in Gargnano, a pretty little town just a short walk away. Overall, it was an extravagant and indulgent stay, not easy on the wallet, but one which we enjoyed very much.

Villa Feltrinelli is our favorite hotel in the world, with Blanket Bay in New Zealand running a close second, though very different in tone. Villa Feltrinelli's location on the lake is heaven, the service and staff are flawless, the 19th century villa is decorated in the most beautiful and tasteful style yet has all modern conveniences one expects in the way of baths, the grounds of the hotel are impeccably manicured, and Garda itself is stunning from this side of the lake. Nothing more relaxing than reading on the deck chairs at the lake's edge or watching the ducks bob around. Breakfast and lunch on the terrace overlooking the lake are perfection. My only comment would be that for many nights, the dinners are a bit overly fancy, and one would be well advised to go to La Tortuga for one more low-key dinner during a stay of serveral nights. Walking to the restaurant and around the tiny town in the evening is also charming. The hotel's rates are staggering, but every bit worth it if you want a truly exceptional holiday. We've been four times over many years and were married at the villa, having rented all the rooms for our wedding guests. They all still talk about it as one of the most amazing experiences ever, and these are people who are fortunate to have a lot of amazing experiences. I can't say enough about magnificent place.

Room Tip: Rooms in the villa are far grander; rooms in the outer buildings are more contemporary in decor, but...

still awaiting a letter of acknowledgement or regret from this beautiful place where the staff dont reply to letters of complaint. We had a visit. The cat,Winston, takes precedence over the guests feelings and so we would be reluctant to return. The cat,if you are allergic, frightened or simply dont like animals in a restaurant, particularly when it reappears 3 times although you have explained you cannot eat with a cat watching every mouthful, while you eat fish and cannot be put away just while you eat because it belongs to the maitre d'. It spoilt our evening, our meal and our stay. There was a sheepish attitude next morning but no apology for ruining what could have been a lovely place to return to-I later rang and I wrote but the manger was on a break-it seems after 1 year he has not returned not does he take the feelings of guests seriously.we have not heard anything!!BYE BYE Feltrinelli.
The snacks/nuts in room,on arrival, were in an open dish with hot summer flies hovering-should be covered. not good for gluten free options.
place very peaceful.nil to do but so beautiful it should be a haven of tranquility and perfection

This hotel is excellent. So far, this is the best we've seen (tastes differ, of course, I understand visitors that didn't see it that way). Breathtaking views, great service, fantastic property. One might complain about things to do (no spa/no gym) but we found it to be offering everything we need - kayaking on the lake, heli trips to Alps, climbing to San Valentino, Garda boat trips, great restaurant, etc.

Room Tip: Stay in the main villa.

When you turn up at hotel you know is a little more expensive than others - naturally your a little apprehensive. Will it live up to expectations, will it deliver a great experience?

We all ask this right?

Now some hotels claim to get it right, buy a historic building, refurbish it, hire some new staff and send through training as written by "The Ritz Carlton' Experience, new uniforms, new chef and Voila - the perfect hotel??? Well not quite.

However Villa Feltrinelli in all its Glory is not this place.
Amazingly well executed, perfectly thought and beautiful attention to detail. Markus Odermatt the GM is and has done a superb job in handpicking a mix of great staff to be wait on you. Makes you wonder when the Germans took over and looked after Mussolini here for 2 years. How could he not be happy in this setting? Then you remember that it was against his will.

Markus Odermatt thinks of everything - with the small details taken care of, the Mini bar is free (stocked with the best), laundry service that makes your cheapest shirt look like a Tom Ford exclusive (in less than an hour), decor of detail and linen and towels of pleasure.
The in room music system which consists of a block of wood, brass plated with 10 buttons styled to choice of classical, pop, jazz. Which either they found the most amazing play lists known to man or maybe our taste but every channel had tracks hand picked for perfect listening, its all it the details.

The rooms - simple, elegant, beautiful bathrooms, amazing views on every side of the Villa.

The Villa - rising out of the Lake set below the mountains. The Feltrinelli's sure picked a spot of natural beauty. Imagine a James Bond set designed to be suave, mysterious and luxurious. Then you imagine this.

The Grounds - designed by Gods, kept by Angels and a joy to explore. A heated pool, massage by the pool, cocktails on the lake, lawn sports in the garden. Relax, drink and enjoy the stunning views across the lake. Heaven!

The food - So excited by the thought of this Michelin Starred restaurant was one thing but we will get to that. Amuse Bouche by the lake with exquisite drinks - a chicken skin sandwich sounds wrong but WOW. A great start to our taste buds each little teasing dish thereafter was incredible.

Jump ahead to breakfast in the sun overlooking the lake next morning, no fault, perfect attention and service all the way.

The restaraunt well - a tasting menu with incredible flair, thought and taste. Far too many to pay homage to and the wine...some local suggestions, some incredible pairings. Don't take my word for it - go try it!

Go live like a millionaire, spend it on this place - its worth every penny.

Going back? Yes with out a doubt. (for more than one night next time)

The Vila Feltrinelli lived up to our expectations and we will be back very soon. The room we had, although not really a suite (although billed as one) was comfortable, quiet, elegant, and all one would wish for. The amenities were generous -- wine, water, whatever else you wanted -- and the bathroom truly magnificent. The villa itself is wonderful in every way. It takes an army of people to run it (many more staff than guests, it seems to me) but it runs like clockwork.

We found that the dining service is absolutely superior with a great wine plist (which wasn't too overpriced) and knowledgeable staff. The food was very good, one * material at least. Internationalized to be sure, but not uncomfortably so. We never went out for dinner. They will set you up a table almost anywhere.

Almost all of staff are friendly and charming. We came with a prodigious load of laundry and it was happily and wonderfully done (laundry is included). My one small complaint are the administrative/greeting staff. They can be a little cold and distant and only helpful when one asks.

By the way, given the surroundings, the number of staff, and the amenities the Villa Feltrinelli is (almost) a bargain!

Feltrinelli has been described as the best hotel in the world by some reviewers. That is a very bold claim. It is without doubt a very fine place to stay and being compact, only 28 rooms I believe, it is a tranquil spot with glorious grounds. Gargnano is a nice village and the hotel is only a ten minute walk or they offer a complimentary shuttle. Our room II Poeta was large and gorgeous with great views over the lake. A very large bathroom with giant shower deep bath and separate WC. Staff are courteous and attentive; But boy this comes at a huge price so not a place for the faint hearted. At these prices you might expect it to be the best in the world, It is not and frankly it would be silly to claim that it is as every top hotel have their special qualities. For my money Aman group consistently achieve the highest standards and get pretty close to perfection.

The restaurant is a fine place to eat with great service from the team, but eye wateringly pricey for what is on offer with big mark ups on wine; Even top London restaurants look a bargain next to this restaurant. They do offer smaller portions on all dishes which is good. It is michelin listed but we found the food a bit hit and miss. Some dishes were exemplary others outright disappointing. I ordered a burger for lunch and was offered it medium; It came dry and overcooked. I had sea bass twice at dinner and the first one was delicious second under-cooked lukewarm and poor. That said a pasta dish called carbonara (not to be confused with the traditional tratoria dish) was sublime and I could have eaten it all day! The chef is clearly very talented but needs greater consistency and simplicity if he is to offer value.

It is a wonderful place to stay and if the restaurant can up its game then it will get close to being perfect.

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms best Poeta is excellent
