“Perfect Retreat on Lake Garda”

Wonderful location on the quiet side of the lake. The hotel is well cared for with a charming and relaxed ambiance.Very good breakfast with fresh coffee, some unusual fruit choices and yummy pastries. No elevator but they are quick to help with the bags. Highly recommended.

Perfectly positioned at the water's edge, this lakeside hotel is an ideal base from which to explore the delights of Gargnano and the many other Lake Garda resorts. We stayed for a sunny week in September and loved every minute of it. The Hotel du Lac has old fashioned charm. It is a cosy, family run hotel where you will be looked after in a friendly and efficient way. Our knowledgable host Valerio was always pleased to answer our many enquiries and questions about the area. We had a top floor room (9) overlooking the lake with wonderful views. The rooms are comfortable and well kept and the staff always happy to assist with one's requirements. Check out the hotel's website for details and photographs. An earlier review complains about the lack of restaurants and pizzerias in the area. Well that is complete nonsense. There are many excellent places to dine within easy walking distance. As for the necessity of hiring a car to get about that is also unrealistic. The many ferries on the lake make the use of a car unnecessary. There are also buses to many locations passing through Gargnano. We're most definitely intending to return next year!

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms are highly recommended!

We returned to this beautiful small hotel following our sensational stay last year. We requested and occupied Room 9 again (lake view - three flights of stairs but well worth the climb!). Once again, we were utterly bowled over by the location, the welcome from the family and, as before, the antique piano. Liz Taylor's diamonds could not sparkle more brightly than the early morning sun on the shimmering lake outside our window and throughout the day. We returned to the Lemon Grove Walk just along the lane and enjoyed an almost personal tour (only one other Italian couple) from the owner himself, a wonderfully knowledgeable and modest elderly gentleman who refused to accept payment, and whilst none of them spoke English, it was huge fun translating the sign language with the help of a few French words thrown in! We hope to return to Hotel du Lac again and again as Gargnano has totally captured our hearts and minds. Thank you, Valerio, and family.

An intimate, genuine, quiet and very friendly place to call home on Lake Garda. We stayed a week in a lake view terrace level (room 1) and the staff, location and facilities are excellent. We would stay no where else on Garda. There are grander places, but none as perfect and comfortable as this place. Hotel is in Villa which is the quieter side of Gargnano on an ancient street.

This is not the main drag, but a small street barely passable with one car. The waves lapping on the shore each night and the sumptuous morning breakfasts sitting over the glistening lake waters were the stuff of dreams. Terrace rooms have beautiful wood and brass full lounge chairs outside. Nights were absolutely quiet except for the wonderful water sounds. Management was extremely helpful and friendly and staff were all eager, efficient and smiling. Many restaurants nearby, although the terrace dinners here with the lake view evenings were really excellent. Everything was well appointed, extremely clean and had an air of old Italy. A little slice of home with all the simple elegance of the Garda region.

Gargnano is a great spot as it becomes more crowded to the north and south. Few fellow Americans on Lake Garda, and mostly German and English tourists that have discovered this wonderful little gem. The town of Villa is quieter and a smaller version of Gargnano, although only a 10 minute walk. Both tiny harbors look like they are from a movie set. Nearby San Giacomo 12th century church is a nice long walk. We hiked to top of Cima Comer Mt for an amazing view. And the other hikes nearby are among stone walls and terraces. Great Hotel!

Room Tip: Room 1 had a partially blocked view (plants), but made up for this with a larger balcony area with f...

This small hotel is extremely well run and supervised by the friendly and very helpful owner. He speaks fluent English and is very willing to assist to ensure that his guests get the best from their stay. The hotel is located by the lakeside, and although it is accessible to the centre of Gargagno it is the perfect choice for a quiet few days relaxation or as a base to explore the delights of Lake Garda. I would have no hesitation to recommend the hotel to others.

We spent four days at Hotel Du Lac between travelling from the hustle and bustle of Milan and to the hustle and bustle of Venice; needing peace and relaxation, that's exactly what we got. We opted for a 'lake view' room and were lucky enough to have one of the two rooms with their own small terrace. Not that we needed to use it, as the sunbeds on the main terrace were never occupied.

Our host couldn't be more helpful, like the rest of the staff, and always very friendly. The breakfast was excellent and eating it whilst looking out on the lake just added to the charm.

When we return to the lake, this will be our hotel of choice - highly recommended.

Me and my partner have just returned from a four day visit to lake garda. This hotel is in a beautiful location, set right on the lake with no noise or distractions. Gargnano is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of limone or malcesine but has a convienient boat service to take you all around the lake. The staff are helpful and friendly. This hotel made our time at the lake so relaxing and peaceful. Couldn't recommend it more.
