“Stunning lakeside location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

A 2 night stay in this beautiful hotel passed all too quickly. Our Lake view room was just perfect and the dinner on the terrace was a special experience . If you do arrive by car , leave it in the local car park and forget about driving anywhere. The boats will take you to anywhere on the lake and Gargnano is a lovely place to explore in the evening with plenty of bars and restaurants .

We stayed here for 4 nights with friends from London. Looking at the cost of other hotels in the wonderful Lake Garda region this is a gem. Breakfast was plentiful & tasty, drinks reasonably priced & although we didn't have dinner the food looked excellent. The sun terrace was right on the lake, relaxing on the sun beds, looking at the mountains in the distance you were immediately relaxed. The rooms were well equipped, quaint & of a good size, we had a room
( requested ) with a balcony & a view of the lake. Would certainly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: View of the lake

We have just returned from the beautiful Lake Garda. We booked four nights in Hotel Du Lac in Gargnano (make sure you get the right one as there are others around the lake). Before we arrived I was a little concerned that we had put ourselves somewhere that would be too far away from everything. I have never been so happy to be proved wrong. We were welcomed warmly and when we opened the door to our room and walked straight out on the terrace I knew we had got it exactly right. The hotel is directly on the water front and the terrace is shaded by a beautiful vine covered in grapes and kiwi fruit. We ate dinner right on the waterfront and the food was really very good.

Breakfast was downstairs and once again you could sit right at the water front only this time the ducks will swim by to see what might drop from your plate. Breakfast is a good selection of continental meats, croissants, fruit and cereal. There was also a hot selection of scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage and boiled eggs. Really plenty to set you up for the day.

Service is warm and friendly and you can walk up the road to the Hotel Gardenia where we hired some kayaks for a late afternoon paddle on the lake and I think they have mountain bikes there too. The whole hotel has a real feeling of peace and it is so easy to relax there. Everything feels really clean and is extremely comfortable.

The drive out of the back of Gargnano up into the mountains is breathtaking and well worth a few scary moments as you take the windy mountain roads. The ferry around the lake goes right from the dock which is just a five minute walk and the nearest place to hire a motor boat is a very easy 10/15 minute drive.

There are various places to park nearby and the hotel will give you a pass to use for the duration of your stay so there is no problem there either.

Do yourself a favour and book a stay here if you are going to Lake Garda - it is a world away from the south end of the lake which felt so much busier.

Room Tip: Take a lake view if you can. Rooms 1 and 2 open out onto larger terraces but the higher rooms will...

Have you ever taken a boat ride a round a lake and spied a lovely hotel with a beautiful balcony and guests clearly enjoying a glass of wine and the view? And then you think to yourself, 'Wouldn't that be lovely?' Welcome to Hotel Du Lac. What a wonderful place! We had lake view rooms, each of which has its own little balcony. The rooms are well appointed and, for such an old building quite spacious. Absolutely gorgeously furnished with real antique suites - very comfy bed and pillows. We ate at the hotel restaurant twice for dinner. The service was impeccable and the food was brilliant, very generous portions. Our host was incredibly helpful and very friendly. I honestly can recommend it enough. It was the perfect place to spend our 20th anniversary treat to ourselves.

Room Tip: I would definitely go for a lake view room. Rooms 1 & 2 open out on the main balcony.

We chose this hotel for its name and its lakeside location on the less touristy western shore half-way up the lake. The water laps at the breakfast terrace while families of ducks, swans and fish swim just a yard away. Obviously the lakeside rooms have better views but our top-floor back-facing room was very comfortable and recently renovated and perfect if you are out most of the day. It has been in the same family for 3 generations and Valerio its current custodian speaks several languages and is very accommodating and helpful with information and advice. Dinner on the terrace named after the beautiful long boats that train before your eyes as you dine is excellent. A short stroll in either direction takes you to a harbour or beach and Gargnano itself is well placed to visit the rest of the lake or explore the mountains behind. We loved it all.

We were so pleased with our choice. The owner was amazingly attentive. Owner speaks English well. Food so good. We even ate there when we moved to another hotel as they were full. Lovely traditional rooms with small bathrooms and English tv channels. Beautiful views. Pefect for our family holiday as we took our elderly parents(85 yrs plus). Helpful staff. Small hotel. We booked too late to have a room with a view but don't let that worry you. We tried to catch the Ferry to Limone but the ticket man thought it very amusing to leave us(four people who had just paid) on the side whilst the ferry left the shore(we thought our ferry was still coming). Quick to take our money but not interested to help at this government run ferry service. He was the only person I swore at in Italy and he deserved it!

Room Tip: Front room but the back ones are good too.

Had four nights here. Fantastic place, small, quiet & relaxing. All the staff are excellent & friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant is great. You can sit on the lakeside & feed the ducks & swans whilst you eat....
Parking is nearby for the car & perfectly safe. Gargnano is just 5 mins walk up the road where there are lots of other restaurants on the harbour front. All in all a wonderful relaxing stay.
