A wonderful hotel run by a family who simply cannot do enough to make you welcome. The food at this hotel and its sister hotel, Hotel du Lac, is exceptional. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff at this hotel. The breakfast is plentiful and tasty.

The shower cubicle is small but you can understand why it is built this way. The only thing that could be improved would be to translate the wine list into English, but that is a minor point

This was our first visit to Lake Garda (myself, hubby and our friends, another couple). I researched quite a few hotels and decided to book this hotel as I wanted something a bit classical in decor, in a slightly quieter part of the lake but definitely on the Lake. The hotel was about an hour and half from bergamo airport, quite a straight drive.

My husband and I booked a standard room which was roomy and clean. It overlooked the street at the back but still had lovely views of the mountain. The only negatives were the lack of tea making facilities (being a Brit!) but it did not bother me as I brought a travel kettle and the bathroom in our room (202) was built in a cupboard with sliding door and was like a caravan type bathroom (adequate and clean with a toilet, sink, shower and bidet, but larger people may struggle), we also had to change in there as the only window coverings were Muslin curtains so felt a bit exposed and it was a bit tight for space, also a bit awkward if someone else is in your room as only a sliding door between you and the loo! There is no safe or mini fridge. Our friends however, had the atmosphera room which they paid a bit extra for and it was lovely, a larger bathroom and balcony with lake view, stunning. I knew this when booking the rooms so would definitely recommend paying the bit extra if your staying more than few days or want a real treat.

The young man on reception was welcoming and very friendly, the staff always had a friendly greeting and took time to give us any information we wanted. The lovely lady of the house tended the flowers and gardens and took the effort to thank us for staying when we checked out.

Breakfast was a good variety and always fresh. Sitting at the front next to the lake feeding the friendly ducks whilst watching the sun glisten on the water is something I could get used to.

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated with shiny, polished tiled floors, a comfortable cosy lounge and a beautifully tended garden where the smell of jasmine wafts passed you every time you enter them. There are sun loungers and a ladder leading into the lake as well as a small pontoon and an upper sun deck over the lake. The indoor restaurant has large all around windows overlooking the lake.

The car park is small as it is just the rounded drive but they do their utmost to squeeze you in (as they did us).

There are a good few restaurants within walking distance if you fancy a change of scenery as is a boat hire place if you have a boat licence (they can arrange a boat if you don't have the licence but book in advance as they have to come from another part of the lake). There are a few shops further down but we did not explore these much.

All in all Gargnano is a lovely little village with narrow streets, beautiful architecture (crumbling stucco, weathered shutters, painted buildings), the scent of jasmine lingers everywhere and the lake is clear along the edges. A lot of the local speak Italian only or German so it is a good way to practice your Italian. The hotel is majestic and wonderfully relaxing and welcoming. The price was very reasonable for the amazing location and service. Highly recommended and we are looking forward to our next visit.

The hotel is beautiful, the gardens are extremely well maintained with gorgeous plants and the hotel itself is spotlessly clean and well decorated.
We went there for a long weekend swimming in the lake and local areas, and it was the perfect base for an active holiday, as well as being very relaxing and quiet. So you can do exactly what you feel like doing, whether it be active or just lying in the shade of the olive grove all day!
We went running both mornings, and found brilliant places to explore, then jumped in the lake, then had large tasty breakfasts.
The staff were professional, helpful and very nice indeed! They have bikes and kayaks available for guest use.
They have another hotel in the village which is also beautiful, as we had dinner there and the food was delicious.
I also recommend a drive to lake Ledro for a swim, about 45 mins away into the mountains!

Room Tip: Worth getting a room with a balcony

We stayed in this hotel for two nights in June. We loved the location and how friendly and accommodating the gentleman at the front desk was. We arrived late on Saturday night and Georgo at front desk waited for our arrival despite our late arrival. He was very welcoming and next day gave us very good tips on local sight seeing options. Breakfast was also great and to be honest one of the best during our week long visit of Tuscany. The breakfast was also served by the lake which made the experience very unique.
Only comment is: air conditioning in the room was working and we had to borrow a fan from Georgo. Also, the floor of the room was quite dusty but overall room was clean. Would have loved to give this hotel excellent rating but feel given these two issues with the room it is only fair to rate this hotel as very good.

If you don't want a bed factory but a beautiful family run hotel with direct access to the lake from a relaxing tranquil garden, this is definetely your place. The tasteful decor and historical sepia photographs help create a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere. Nestling between the lake and the cipresses on the mountains behind, this fantastically situated villa is only surpassed by the outstanding hospitality of the Arosio family, originally piano makers from Milan, and their attentive colleagues. Meals can be taken in the restaurant overlooking the lake or in the garden, while the ducks waddle by. Absolutely stunning!

Myself and my Husband stayed at the Gardenia al Lago for five nights in May and found it to be the perfect place for us to really enjoy lake Garda and the surrounding area.

What speaks volumes for the hotel is that we were only staying for the first two nights of our honeymoon. However we fell so in love with it that we were willing to lose our deposit on the second hotel to cancel and remain at Gardenia al Lago.

The family run business is a contrast to any larger hotel with all the staff being very friendly and attentive. The family couldn't do enough for you and were genuinely a pleasure to be around. The food at the restaurant was excellent and I would say one of the nicer places to eat around Gargnano. The view from not only the restaurant, the terrace and our room was wonderful. The furniture was gorgeous and the bed was incredibly comfortable.

The only reason this hotel is not five star is the fact it doesn't have a spa/swimming pool. All I can say to that is, who needs a swimming pool when you have a jetty into the lake? Well worth braving the initial cold for a pleasant, refreshing swim!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I very rarely return to somewhere (as I believe there are so many places in the world I haven't been yet) but I am already looking forward to an anniversary trip to this hotel in a few years time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sun terrace, floor 2 has a private sun terrace leading to the public...

This was a wonderful experience and surprise. This family owned and operated business is so charming and extremely helpful. They have a wonderful breakfast each morning overlooking the lake. Ducks come up to play. The garden is immaculately maintained. They were very helpful in guiding our hiking and excursions. The room was very clean. The town was romantic and fun. Price was very reasonable. I would recommend this to any friend.
