We stayed in a Canvas holiday mobile home in August 2016 at Camping Piantelle. The campsite was compact, quiet, clean and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant serves decent pizzas and pastas but we experienced better quality food elsewhere. Fantastic pool, very clean, and there were always lots of sunbeds. It was a bit deep (4ft) for my son who is not a strong swimmer but it actually forced him to swim out of his depth which he had never done before. Fellow guests were lovely and well-behaved, lots of Dutch and Germans. Great little shop on site for delicious breakfast pastries and bread. Entertainment in the evening for little ones was a bit repetitive. We loved walking along the beautifully lit lake path in the evening to go for gelateria and limoncello at the Darsena restaurant at Moniga port. Great lake for swimming in, with a beach at the campsite, but bring your beach shoes!
We had a car and made the most of the entire lake, visiting Malcesine, which we reached by boat from Salo, getting the cable car up the mountain for some amazing views. We also saw Sirmione, Torre del Benaco, Gargano, and had a day out in Verona. We also went to Gardaland, which was a great theme park with some thrilling rides. We went there in the evening, which was not only cheaper but much more bearable than going during the day. Great places for lake swimming were Gargano and Torri del Benaco. On a couple of occasions, we got stuck in lakeside traffic and decided to go off the beaten track to charming and rustic mountainside restaurants, including Hosteria da Lidia, above the beautiful town of Salo. Would love to go back to this area, simply stunning!
