We have stayed at Hotel Cannero several times since 1997, and found it always welcoming and comfortable. It's a joy to wake up early and watch the place come to life; the ferry port right opposite the front verandah provides endless interest and opportunity for people-watching.
Sadly it has lost some of the very personal appeal over the years as it has clambered up-market and appealed to a wider range of clientele - it is no longer the uniquely British enclave it used to be, with many more Europeans enjoying its atmosphere and very professional service.

This beautiful old hotel has been run by the same family for decades and these lovely people make every guest feel one of the family. I have not previously experienced such a genuinely warm welcome at any lodging place anywhere else in the world. However, this is Italy, of course, and Italians are generous - hearted people. My five days at Hotel Cannero were an absolute pleasure providing a very necessary recovery from the long journey to Europe. Situated in one of Italy's very special places on Lake Maggiore, I can well understand why guests return year after year for their annual holiday. If only I lived a little closer I would follow suit! I had opted for half board rather than going out alone in the evenings for a meal and was agreeably surprised at not only the quality of the food on offer but also the variety with daily changes of menu. Everything was fresh and wholesome and entirely satisfying. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of fresh fruit available as well as every type of cereal, fruit juice, breads/pastries, cooked options etc. My lovely spacious room faced the lake with a tiny balcony to sit out on, a very comfortable bed and an excellent bathroom with a very good supply of toiletries. The staff at Hotel Cannero merit a special mention; obliging, cheerful and always ready to assist and a very special thank you to Raffaele, whose courtesy and consideration for an elderly guest was very much appreciated. To Mme Gallinotto and family, my very sincere thanks for a lovely stay at Hotel Cannero which will remain in my memory always.

OK, I won't spend time repeating all the accolades you see on the other reviews, except to say that they are all true. We had a junior suite overlooking the lake and celebrated my wife's birthday in their restaurant...having an absolutely wonderful meal. The entire staff was gracious and helpful. The owner sent 2 glasses of prosecco to our table for our celebration dinner...very nice personal gesture. We took a drive to Locarno for lunch one day and the ferry over to Luino on another day for market and lunch. This was one of our most delightful stays in Italy and want to thank the entire family and staff for helping make this visit a very special memory.

On the recommendation of old British friends, my wife and I from the U.S. spent three days at this beautiful hotel on Lago Maggiore in August. We loved it all - perfect location on the lake with no traffic noise; old-style service; an excellent spacious room with a drop-dead view onto the lake from its private terrace. Only complaints are that the pool was very crowded on hot August afternoons, and the food for dinner in the restaurant, while good, isn't the best in Italy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with terrace overlooking the lake. Rooms on higher floors have better views. At pea...

We have just stayed at Hotel Cannero for 4 days. It is, as all the reviews have said, an amazingly great place to stay. Its greatest plus is the wonderful atmosphere provided by the staff. Thanks Raffaele and all the other staff for your hospitality and warmth. Although the weather was not great and we were rained out one day, it is the most relaxing place to put your feet up or read one of the many books they have available. Everyone went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. They assisted one of our group to obtain good medical care for a problem. They helped us to plan all the transport connections for a day's outing on the Centovalli railway. It is the best place I have ever stayed because of the genuine concern of the staff for their clients. We will make a point of returning.

We have just came back from this lovely hotel. All the stuff are trying to make your stay comfortable and perfect. Rooms are comfortable and has very beautiful lake views. But the most exceptional part is the restaurant. Our only complaint was about the orchid without any flowers in our room.

For the second time in two years I returned for three nights stay with my group of 20. This is an
exceptional hotel. Every element of the hotel exudes Old World elegance. Sited right on Lake
Maggiore with the ferry dock right out front. One of my group lost a tooth and the management
insisted on having a staff member drive her to a dentist. The owner, Signora Maria Carla
Gallinotto, her son Samuele and his wife Giuliana and the rest of the staff are so kind and
attend to every detail. Other highlights are the views, charming bar with piano player, swimming pool, excellent salad bar with dinner each evening. When planning your visit to Lake Maggiore
your best choice would be Hotel Cannero

Room Tip: Upgrade to superior with lake view or a junior suite
