“Beautiful lakeside location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

The hotel is right on the lake and we had lovely views from our room which was very comfortable with a spotless, though quite small, bathroom. The terrace with sunbeds was a lovely spot to relax in and the restaurant area for breakfast and dinner was perfect. Breakfast was very good as was the dinner we had on one evening of our 2 night stay. Initially we thought dinner was quite expensive but in fact by comparison with one of the local restaurants in the town which we ate in the second evening, the food was excellent and better value for money. There are plenty of other eating options but had we stayed longer, we would almost certainly have eaten in the hotel again.
It is a two minute walk to the ferry stop for boats to all parts of the Lake and there is a secure parking area which is a boon as the public parking is a bit of a nightmare. We found the staff friendly and helpful and very willing to accommodate my pretty poor attempts to practise my Italian. As another reviewer has said, Argegno was a bit quieter than the bigger lake towns and if we return to Lake Como we would happily stay at the Belvedere again. It is not a particularly cheap hotel but it is very pleasant and reasonable value in a pretty expensive corner of Italy.

Room Tip: It is worth paying for a lake view.

We loved this hotel for its combination of gracious service, pleasant rooms and exquisite location right on the shores (literally) of Lake Como. Wonderful complimentary breakfast and moderately priced high quality meals served at their lakeside restaurant with fabulous views across the lake to the alps in the background were a delight.

This was recommended by my travel agent but based on experience before the change in ownership. My welcome was efficient (leave keys at desk when going out etc) but annoying as I was told to wait in the bar for a welcome drink. I was keen to get out in the street to soak up the beautiful scenery but waited for 10 mins with noone attending. Asked reception, they said please wait! After another 5 mins or so I left angry having wasted the time and then enjoyed welcoming staff at the cafes across the road.
The room was lakeside room with stunning views. Would only stay in one of these if you decide to stay. Clean and tidy but basic - no bar fridge, drinking water or coffee/tea. Bathroom small. Was woken at 5 am by loud snoring next door followed by talking, walking around in hobnail boots on the bare timber floor while presumably packing. Noise stopped about 6.30 am. Breakfast good but given the service experience of the first day I ate in town each of my three nights - good selection, service and atmosphere.
Hard to find staff at times. Frustrating when they insist on leaving the key at the desk on going out and then the desk is unattended on return. I give 5 for location and view but an overall 3. There must be better choices. Will update my agent.

We have been coming here for more almost 20 years and loved the family atmosphere and authenticity of this old Italian villa. Jane and Georgio were wonderful hosts. I was concerned about the changes with a more commercial ownership and it has been sad not to see them and their daughters and granddaughter this time. The positive changes have been the modernizing of the patio with a new roof and wood flooring. The glass enclosures allow outdoor eating year round, but reduces the feel of being on the lake. The less pleasant changes are in the living room where stiff new chairs have replaced comfortable overstuffed couches and chairs. The large claw footed tubs have been replaced with showers. I miss the tub.
Both Saturday and Sunday there were sizable parties in the new expanded dining room and that was different. During the week the dining room was much quieter. The food was always good here but the new offerings are exceptional. There is no need to eat anywhere else. The breakfast as usual is very good. The service is very professional. Time marches on!

Room Tip: The best room is #7 on the second floor. Always ask for a room that is on the Lake if your budget a...

We had a lake-side room and the views were stunning. One night a storm came through the lake and colours were amazing. Restaurant was excellent with very helpful staff. We caught the ferry from Como and the hotel is only one minute away from the wharf. It is also centrally located to many restaurants if you wish to have lunch or dinner. We also enjoyed a ferry ride up the lake stopping at various towns including Bellagio and thankful that Argegno didn't have the number of tourists that wander the streets of Bellagio. A great place to relax and wind down.

This was our 5th visit to the Villa Belvedere over the last couple of years ( driving to Fotre Dei Marmi) from England.

The Villa Belvedere just gets better every time, excellent value , and is in the most wonderful location.

Looking forward to our next visit

Room Tip: You must book and ask for lake view , but book early!

My husband and I did not have a reservation but on arrival at Hotel Villa Belvedere quite late in the evening, we were thrilled to get a room. We were in Room 7 which is on the 2nd floor and has a stunning view out over the lake. The room was simply decorated but spacious and had everything you needed.
The bathroom had been recently renovated and was of a good size too. A heater on the wall helped as it was quite cold outside being Winter.
The staff at Hotel Villa Belvedere were exceptionally friendly and helped with lots of local information, including finding a laundromat which was a fun 15 minute drive up into the hills! Luca, in particular, was very helpful and very professional.
One of the best things we experienced was the restaurant on site. The menu is diverse and the food is absolutely divine, showing off Italian cuisine at its absolute best! There is no need to eat anywhere else, although the staff did give us alternate options which were excellent choices for the night that the hotel's restaurant was closed. Breakfast was excellent, offering a selection to suit all palates, and is set in the beautiful dining room where the sun comes through in the morning.
Wifi was excellent, offered in room at no extra charge.
We were on a driving holiday and we had secure parking right outside the front of the hotel. It could not have been more perfect.
Whilst we had a wonderful experience during the Winter, we can't wait to come back again to experience Villa Belvedere in Summer! Highly recommend this lovely hotel!
