We got the funicular railway up to Brunate from Como. This place is quite a long walk from the station, down steep winding lanes. However, the walk is worth it for the stunning views from the terrace dining room, and the simple but perfectly served food and drink. There is no written menu, and the staff simply tell you the three choices of prima, seconda, and dolci. The main courses were all 12 Euros, as was a bottle of the excellent house red wine.

Walkers would be advised to continue down the hill to Como after the meal, using a charming (but steep) footpath rather than struggle back up the hill to Brunate. If you come here in the evening, a car or taxi would really be needed.

I stayed here 2 nights as a single traveller backpacking. It was exactly what I was looking for, instead of the hustle & bustle of city life I chose this place to chill out & relaz with beauiful forest surrondings & the view from the mountain of Lake Como & the city and opposite mountains was just awesome. Althought the walk to the hotel from the fernacular is pretty long and has its ups & downs I didnt mind at all because the surrounding scenery is so pleasant. The room was small but adequete for me. Shower had good hot water. One thing that was annoying was the noises within the hotel at night. People talking, creaking of the wooden floor wherever you walk, the dude snoring in the room next to mine. But eh, if thats all I had to put up with for the price I payed compared to hotels in Como or even Brigante then so be it!

Should you like a beautiful scenerie and nature you are at the perfect place. It's not so easy to find as it is in the forest and you need to reach it by car. It is up the hill in Brunate around 15 minutes by car from Como. But when you are there you will enjoy the panoramic view and the quietness and of course the food.
From typical northern Italy appetizers to Risotto, Pappardelle or Zuppa di Cozze as a "primo" you have as "secondo" the choice between various types of meat like pork, lamb, rabbit, wild boar, agnus steak but as well of fish.
For sure you also find a nice dessert to finish your dinner.
PS: you can also walk up from Como during a nice and sunny day to have just a drink and to enjoy the view. There are 3 different walks possible. The shortest is the one beside the "funicular". This place offers as well hotel service.

At Falchetto you can enjoy the magnificent view over lago de Como, a place where you can sleep and enjoy excellent food in a quite and relaxing atmosphere. In the morning the cuckoo in the forrest will call on you for breakfast.

Falcheltto is well located for a wonderfull walk further up to Brunate and locations above. Walking distance to down town Como through green passage in the woods are exciting.
The Funicolar is the good alternative for quicker up and down.
