Ca' Spiga is the perfect B&B if you want a more authentic Italian experience and to interact with the locals. The owners and their family are the epitome of hospitable. As soon as we booked the room Alessandro was in contact with us providing directions and things to do in Lake Como.

When we arrived at Ca' Spiga we were greeted by Andrea who was super friendly and provided us with coffee and chatted with us for awhile. Afterwards he gave us a tour of the B&B which is soooo charming and has great views of the lake! Breakfast, as everyone has said, is delicious! They have everything you could want and most of it is homemade or comes from their parents butcher shop. It is nice bumping into other guests at the breakfast table and having that social interaction. We spent every night of our stay drinking wine with Andrea or some of the other guests.

Laglio is a quiet town, but great for a relaxing day and trying to spot George Clooney. Andrea and Alessandro's parents own a butcher shop that also sells wine and other small foods and is about a 10-15 min walk from the B&B. Like their sons, they were extremely hospitable and when we told them we were guests at the B&B they offered us samples of the salami and bresaola and chatted with us for awhile in a mix of English, Spanish and Italian.

There are really only 2 restaurants near there. We loved the restaurant La Locanda so much the first night that we went back our last night and didn't try the other one, but I'm sure it is also good.

If you arrive by bus make sure you pack light as there are many stairs to climb to get up to the B&B unless you go the back way where it is a little easier to climb up the hill. It is a little confusing at first, but not too hard to find and is the brightest place on the street so it is easy to spot.

My only issue is that we didn't have a car so while the bus stop was close by, they only came every hour or two. It is not a main town on the lake so it is not the most convenient location without a car. If you have a car I think it would be much easier to get around.
My recommendation would be that they provide guests with an updated bus schedule and offer tickets for sale to make planning the day and getting around a little easier.

Overall, I really can't say enough about how hospitable and friendly they are at Ca' Spiga and in the town of Laglio in general. Highly recommend this place!

Alessandro is the perfect host. Not only offering excellent value for price but putting his heart behind whatever he does for his guests. We have spent 4 amazing nights here and have been invited to a family pizza making party too. This is something we will never forget. Thank you Alessandro!

If you are looking to experience this region for all of its glory and authenticity then this would be the place to call your vacation home base. Ca’Spiga is the kind place where you come in as a guest and leave feeling like you have a new family in Italia. Ale was an amazing host. He goes above and beyond to make sure all of his guests are comfortable and experience Laglio/Lake Como from the perspective of a local. This is where he grew up so he takes great pride on the level of service he delivers. His breakfasts are divine and feature all local goods. It's a mini foodie tour of sorts. His baking skills are exceptional so bring your best appetite to this one of a kind breakfast. The B and B itself is gorgeous, historic and very clean. The views from every room of Lake Como are surreal to say the least. Laglio has two or three great restaurants and there are also a few more in the neighboring town of Carate Urio. Public transportation was fairly easy to navigate and Alessandro was great at giving us tips on what to see. I can go on and on :). I will certainly be back soon....

Our stay at Ca Spiga, 6th-8th June, was a special weekend away to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and was a real jewel of a find. From the moment we made contact, Alessandro was so caring and helpful, promptly answering all of our questions, assisting us with hiring a private speed boat and planning our travel itinerary.

Having flown into Milan from London, we followed Alessandro's timed and detailed directions, involving a train, the underground and two buses, with excellent connections. We only went wrong at the last minute, when we got off the local bus one stop too early in Laglio, but Alessandro (who was waiting for us at the intended bus stop) immediately rescued us in his car, full of smiles!

Ca Spiga itself is enchanting, set back from the main road and up a flight of cobblestone steps that lead you through a narrow passage way, past colourful cottages with overhanging balconies, and into a pretty courtyard. It felt as if we had stepped into a scene from a fairytale, with picturesque window boxes and terracotta pots brimming over with fresh flowers. The B&B is full of interesting historical pictures, furniture and artefacts, with gorgeous views over the lake. We were warmly welcomed with wine, fresh bread and meats from Alessandro's father's butcher shop and given a detailed map and tips on what to see and where to go whilst we were there. Alessandro made a reservation for us at Laglio's best restaurant, La Locanda del Cantiere, for that evening and had already bought our bus tickets for the next morning's trip to the village of Argegno (about 10 minutes drive), to pick up our boat.

Our room, the largest one, with en suite bathroom (Genziana), was beautiful and in keeping with the simplistic, rustic feel of the rest of the house. The sun streamed through not one, but two, large windows overlooking the lake and we also had a glass door leading out onto our own balcony, with a comfortable seating area (two cushioned, wicker chairs and small table). Below, there is a little courtyard and garden, with two reclining sun loungers, which you are free to use if you just want to "chill out" and share a bottle of wine (that you can buy directly from Alessandro's kitchen, helping yourself to glasses from his kitchen dresser, another sweet touch).

We spent our first afternoon walking along the tranquil "old" lakeside road from the charming hamlet of Laglio towards Cernobbio, admiring the views and breathing in the sweet smell of jasmine, which clings to every wall and doorway. We later found out that Alessandro has a few bikes at Ca Spiga, which would be ideal for travelling this route if you want to explore further.

Dinner at La Locanda del Cantiere was excellent, sitting at one of the outside tables on the terrace of this converted old boat house, mesmerized by the twinkling lights on the opposite, eastern shore as darkness enveloped the Lake. Despite some noise from the main road, our room at Ca Spiga was amazingly cool and quiet with the windows shut and we slept well both nights. For such an old house, the modern shower in the bathroom was superb!

Breakfast, as highlighted in many previous tripadvisor reviews, is an event in itself at Ca Spiga. There is so much to choose from (cereals, yoghurts, bread and croissants, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses) and it is very much a family affair, with lots of lively chat with Alessandro, his brother Andrea, and other friendly guests. Alessandro's cappuccino and freshly squeezed orange juice is better than any fancy hotel I've stayed in and everything is local and homemade. I can highly recommend the strawberry jam and freshly baked cake (a different one for each morning of our stay)!

Hiring a Quicksilver Active 535 Open for 8 hours on the Saturday was a wonderful way to explore the Lake and its stunning water front villas and villages all in one go. The owner of Centro Nautico Lario was most amiable and his rates very reasonable. We anchored and swam off the island, moored at Varenna for lunch and posed for the mandatory "selfie" photo outside Villa Balbianello (from the James Bond film, Casino Royale!), which is stunning.

On the morning of our departure, we met Alessandro's mother, another lovely, attractive member of the Motti family. Alessandro then very kindly drove us back into Como himself, as he was heading that way, and helped us purchase our train tickets in advance from the station. From there, he took us to meet his father in the town's Sunday market, as well as sample more of his delicious sausages!

After a pleasant afternoon in Como town, we reluctantly made our way back to the airport. Our stay at Ca Spiga was truly memorable - we only wish we could have stayed longer - and we hope to return with our three teenage children in the not too distant future. Three of Ca Spiga's rooms upstairs, with large, shared bathroom, would be ideal for our family - like a self contained apartment, but with the added benefit of a served, luxury breakfast!

If you want to stay somewhere that is more of a treasured home than a house, away from the tourists, then Ca Spiga is definitely for you. Thank you, Alessandro, not only for your thoughtful parting gift, but for being the most genial, accommodating host and now a dear friend. We will miss your stories and wonderful sense of humour, but intend to stay in close touch. Come and visit us in Oxford one day!

We visited Ca Spiga in late April 2014. We cannot recommend Alessandro's B&B highly enough. The view of the lake from our room/balcony was magnificent, the breakfast was spectacular, and Alessandro was a perfect host. He made us feel welcome and made sure that we had everything we needed -- including directing us to the best spots to visit around Lake Como, and advising us how not to get lost.

LOCATION: Ca Spiga is located about 25 minutes away by bus from Como, in a charming village of Laglio on the west side of the lake. It is well located to explore the surrounding area (Bellagio, Menaggio, Como, Cernobio, etc.), especially if you have a car or a bike. It's also nice to take a walk along the old road through the neighbouring villages.

THE HOUSE: You can immediately see the love and care Alessandro and his family have put in maintaining and running Ca Spiga. The decor is, like the Como area itself, picturesque. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and the bathroom is newly renovated. We slept very well while we were there. WiFi is provided.

BREAKFAST: You'll love it: fresh, local breads, meats, cheeses, honey; freshly squeezed juice and coffee; freshly baked pies; and Nutella! The kitchen is a great place to meet other guests and chat with them. If you enjoy the breakfast -- which you will -- make sure you visit Alessandro's parents' shop in Laglio, a five minute walk from Ca Spiga, where you can get all the local products.

We hope to go back there soon!
