“A nice traditional hotel on lake Como”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2010

The hotel complex is split between the larger and modern main building and the reconstructed historic villa across the road, both overlooking the lake.

The rooms are fairly spacious and elegantly decorated with traditional furnishings. Many offer excellent views on the lake and the surrounding hills. The villa’s junior suites with considerable balconies provide for a great panoramic view over Como.

The hotel also contains an upscale restaurant at the lakeside, offering good quality local cuisine.

Overall, this place provides an excellent opportunity for a very comfortable and relaxing stay in Como area. However, it must be noted that Moltrasio is a tiny village and major local landmarks require a car or possibly a boat to get to.

Famous local amenities including the renowned Villa d’Este, the very pleasant towns of Cernobbio and Como, as well as many brilliant local restaurants. All are only a short drive away. It’s also possible to visit Bellagio and other towns at the other end of the lake, either by a ferry from Moltrasio or by hiring a private boat.

While prices at this hotel are relatively considerable, it offers a more affordable alternative to Villa d’Este, while providing similar, although admittedly not the same, style and comfort.

My wife and I attended a 60th birthday party in Torno and friends recommended the Hotel Grand Imperiale. We were able to get an excellent rate through one of the travel sites and were "blown away" by the hotel. Recently renovated it is a beautiful hotel - small but because of the extensive grounds feeling much grander. The staff was excellent, dealing with a number of personal issues. The two restaurants were also excellent and the view of the lake at the dinning facility was stunning - Torno across the lake. The pool over looking the lake and surrounded by gardens was a wonderful place for a break. The ferries stopped a few yards from the hotel grounds, making access to the lake and towns a snap.

My fiance and I stayed here for the 2nd time and amazingly had an even better experience than our first stay. The general manager, Sylvestro always treats us like family. We went to celebrate Thanksgiving. Obviously an American holiday. They went out of their way to make us our own thanksgiving menu with our names on it. We had our own delicious turkey. Something we thought we were not going to be able to find in Italy. We stayed in a villa on the Lake. Such a special room. We arrived and were surprised with flowers, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. That night we got engaged. Such a romantic place with amazing views and wonderful staff. Wonderful hotel for a special occasion.

I stayed here for 1 night with colleagues. We needed somewhere not too far from Bellagio and this was right next to a boat stop and on the way back to Milan for the return flight home. Hotel was located well, and the bar, restaurant, building, grounds etc were lovely. We had a basic room, but the beds were comfy. The bathroom was small and I think we were in the eaves as the ceiling dipped and my husband would have had problems with the height if he had of come - but he didn't so it was fine for me.

We had dinner in the restaurant there as my colleagues were tired and did not fancy walking over to the other restaurant waterside - which i would have liked too. But the food at the main hotel was nice, not the best I've ever had and did expect more from the Pasta, Mozzerella salad dishes etc as were in Italy - but they were nice enough. I think we are spoiled in the UK with Italian restaurants and we think it is not as good as Italy and the real thing - but from what I have seen they really are.

The restaurant manager was helpful and the staff too - we even had a few drinks with them at the bar next door till 3am!!!!!!

Stayed in suite with my husband and adult daughter. We absolutely LOVED everything about our stay. The rooms and view were fabulous, service great, and food at the hotel restaurant superb. We found the manager, Franco, to be friendly and helpful with everything we inquired about. Karim, the restaurant manager, was friendly and most accommodating.
The Moltrasio area is so charming with it's beautiful views of the lake. We truly felt we stumbled upon a little piece of heaven. We are already planning our next trip back.
We highly recommend this hotel.

What attracted us to this hotel while driving from North to South along the magnificent shores of Lake Como, was its enclosed (unattended) parking facilities and of course its very attractive location by the lake. Very friendly and efficient reception personnel led us into a spacious well appointed room with views over the Lake.
Drinks at the old style bar served by a very service minded bar attendant set us in the right mood for a romantic dinner by the lake at the hotels' restaurant "Imperialino". One tends to by-pass whatever imperfections or hiccups may occur during ones' dinner given the fantastic mood that the natural scenery of the lake shore, the elegant co-dinners and the good intentions of the staff create around you.

We arrived at the Hotel to be greeted by Silvestro de Bolfo, the Manager - both our friens and us were allocated breathtaking rooms with glorious balconies and views of spectacular Lake Como ! The stayed 3 nights and twice ate at the glorious restaurant on the Lake - what an unforgettable experience! We can't speak highly enough of Mr. Silvestro de Bolfo and his wonderful staff for their excellent service! All in all an experience of a lifetime and we hope that we will be privileged to return sometime in the future! We know that our friends feel the same!
