A little over six years ago we asked local people where we could find the best fish in Vila Real de Santo Antonio and were directed to Restaurante Cuca - since then we have eaten their fish every time we have visited, which is several times a year.
Cuca is a small, unpretentious café/restaurant with absolutely no airs and graces. The owner catches much of the fish, his wife cooks it (along with the many other things on the menu). On a recent visit I asked which of the fish on display was the freshest ... the waiter pointed to several grey mullet and said: "Two o'clock this afternoon."
Just the other day we were served delicious sea bass, together with a large salad and large plate of fries. With bottle of white wine, large bottle of water and covers, the bill amounted to 27 euros. Credit cards accepted.
In the context of the restaurants in Vila Real and the surrounding area Cuca consistently delivers simple but very good food.
