“So jolly but so loud!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

Beautiful location, fabulous situation. Basic clean rooms, but omg the noise. Music nearly all day long on the terrace blaring out. Same tape every day. Also they have a theatre beneath the hotel which is a hoot, but there is a show every night from 10pm-midnight..so if your room is near there you will have loud music day and night. Having said that it was the jolliest of places, we would go back as long as we could guarantee a room on the far far side of the hotel overlooking the beach and away from the frenetic noise. Also note...pool closed after lunch for hours when everyone naps (just the point when we English crawl out and are enjoying the silence and need a dip!).

Room Tip: Away from terrace and theatre

What a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location! We recently held our wedding at L’Approdo. Our wedding planners at Slow Dreams took care of all the arraignments from beginning to end and we were a little apprehensive that the pictures would not be a true representation of the current state of the hotel. Our expectations were greatly exceeded! Not only did the pictures not do the hotel justice but when we ran into travel issues, the hotel worked with Slow Dreams to ensure our wedding still went off without a hitch. Additionally, our room was spacious, comfortable and clean and the large pool area was beautiful and refreshing. We were also impressed by the food. The daily breakfast had so many choices all of which were delicious and the wedding dinner was extraordinary. We also can't say enough about the staff. They were helpful and hospitable at all times and always provided service with a smile. Following the wedding, we toured the rest of Italy for our honeymoon but still consider our stay at L'Approdo the best part of our trip. We can't wait to go back!

I want to echo all the lovely reviews about this hotel. I was part of an organised package and was very much surprised by the quality of this place.

It is in a small quiet village, so not a place for night-clubbers, which is a relief. Rooms are spacious and airy with a view over the fishing harbour where you can see the boats bring in their catches. The food is imaginative and local, with meat, fish or vegetable choices every day. Very acceptable wine served with dinner each evening.

All staff are friendly and helpful, and the drinks prices are very reasonable. I'd certainly be happy to go back.

This hotel is in a quiet but fab location, right onto the sea, with its own private beach with lots of sun loungers & you can swim in crystal clear sea. Rooms are huge & spotless clean, mine had a great balcony & I could hear the sea. Food was fantastic, something special & different from other hotels that I've stayed in, staff couldnt have been more helpful. I was with Travelsphere & had great trips out, the Cilento coast is very unspoilt & felt like the real Italy. There is one big BUT with this hotel, the temperature was at times 40c... But the hotel refused to put the air conditioning on, they said they can not do this till 1st July, despite many of us complaining. This is a 5 star hotel & in everyway it was this & more but to have rooms that were unbearable hot is not what I expect & that is why I have only given the rooms average. It was a shame as this matter took the edge off what was a fantastic holiday

Room Tip: If you have a room overlooking the pool/sea it is great to hear the sea but if it is very hot you ge...

I would like to rate this hotel as excellent right through but the unwillingness to/inability to vary its policy on not bringing on its air-con before its advertised period despite a week of soaring temperatures diminished the experience of staying there. (Hence the 3 on service)

Otherwise large comfortable rooms (variably equipped; some had small kitchens); all with a sea view, food excellent, complimentary local wine, spacious & comfortable lounge, cool corridors (with foliage), pool, private beach, friendly staff.

We were with a Travelsphere "Cilento Coast" tour with trips to the archeological sites of Paestum and Elia included. The neighbouring resort of Santa Maria is 40 minutes away and there is a local bus. It's also possible to reach Agropoli by bus. Otherwise San Marco is a small village with limited retail and alternate eateries,

The area of the Cilento Coast is largely undiscovered by the British tourist industry but is very attractive.

I'd go again but during July or August when I could be certain the air-con was opertaing.

Where do I start ?We have just had our wedding and honeymoon at the wonderful Hotel L'Approdo 28th may 2013. On arrival to San Marco we were slightly concerned as the town looked quite small and the weather was a bit cloudy. When we arrived in the hotel the reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. As it was our honeymoon I think they put us in the family apartment, room 224. The room was immaculately clean, and the facilities were very good. I missed having a kettle and tea/coffee in the room but as we had a kitchen we improvised and made coffee on the stove. The room was cleaned everyday and the housekeeping staff were lovely. We were blown away by the size of the apartment and the size of our balcony. We faced straight out to sea above the hotels private beach. The beach itself was nice and very private. On the shoreline during our stay there was a build up of dry seaweed, this was probably due to us being there slightly out of season, this did not stop us swimming/ snorkelling in the crystal clear sea. We were half board so got our evening meals included. Each night there was a new three course menu. The food was outstanding! I tried so many new dishes and now am attempting to re-create a few at home, without much luck.... The breakfast was lovely also.

Our wedding was organised by a wonderful company called Slow Dreams www.slow-dreams.com. I met with my wedding Planner the day after arrival as my wedding day was the next day. The hotel manager personally took us around the areas I could get married and have my reception. We decided to get married on the patio facing the sea and have our reception in a small covered area surrounded by plants and flowers. It was really beautiful. All the staff were exceptionally helpful, Gennaro and his restaurant staff on the day ( and throughout our stay) were outstanding, they were attentive but still managed to be discreet The food was unbelievable! The kitchen prepared us an egg and nut free cake which I must say was the best cake I have ever had my guests raved about it. The bar staff were also fantastic throughout the stay, they were very friendly and funny and made me and my guests feel very relaxed and welcome. It truly was a unforgettable fairytale day. Many thanks to all the staff for your excellent service.

After the wedding the remainder of the stay we wanted to explore the area. The town itself is quite small with only a few restaurants and shops and the harbour. We found the afternoon siestas difficult at times as some shops and restaurant closed but if you plan your time it didn't become a problem. The restaurants we did eat at we're very good and the staff very friendly. You can take a 20 minute stroll to the larger town of Santa Maria along the coastline. There was a small section of flat rocks to walk over on this walk on the beach but it wasn't a problem. We found sections of the beach towards Santa Maria look quite unkempt. We wondered if this was because our stay was just out of season still so maybe the beach is combed later in the summer. San Marie is lovely the area is very quaint and had many shops, bars, restaurants and coffee bars. The beach there was very nice also. We also visited the mountain top town of Castebellate. It was a very quirky little town where we had a gorgeous lunch with outstanding views across the coastline.

As a honeymoon treat the reception staff helped us to arrange a boat trip with a local excursion company. The owner was called "Nicola" and his company was called "Masaniello tourist" www.masaniellotourist.com. It was absolutely fantastic!! It really made our honeymoon in Italy very special. The weather in the morning was nice but the sea was a bit rough so we could not visit the famous and beautiful coves which was a little disappointing, but as the day went on we didn't even miss it. Our host was very warm and friendly and instantly wanted us to have the day we wanted to have. He let us know there would be a few surprises in store for us ( which I promised never to reveal ) he served us a 5-6 course fresh fish lunch prepared in his own home by his very talented wife. We were told we could have the boat anytime and for however long we required. We got on at about 10.30 and retuned about 6.The food was some of the best I have ever tried. He kept our drinks topped us and was able to give us lots of information about the beautiful Cilento coast and old local stories about mermaids. It really was the relaxed romantic and authentically Italian experience we wanted. Thankyou Nicola. It was fab!

Our overall experience was one we will always cherish. Not only because it was where we were married but the hotel was perfect and the staff really made the experience a relaxed and welcoming. We want to give this hotel top marks and think that anyone who chooses to stay here will have a really wonderful stay. Many thanks again to everyone for making our stay one we won't forget.

We just had a week's holiday with Travelsphere at the Lapprodo and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We had a third floor room with balcony overlooking the delightful harbour. The hotel was in an extremely remote spot which would not suit everyone but the walks along the beach to neighbouring Santa Maria were an absolute joy. The meals were very Italian and always hot and delicious. The staff were attentive and made mealtimes a pleasure. The hotel has a private beach and lovely grounds and it was a real shame that the weather was not better during our stay. There was a continual strong wind from the sea but it did not spoil things and we will look forward to another visit when we might be able to enjoy the beach more.
