Our group of 6 stayed here in March 2012 for 6 nights and we were all extremely impressed. Nothing was too much trouble. I have special dietary requirements and was amazed at how helpful Chris, the chef, was, tailoring meals to suit me. The staff were delightful, the food excellent and the rooms, though not large, very clean and the beds comfortable. All this plus amazing views. The whole stay was totally relaxing. It is a beautiful area, with plenty of great walks in the vicinity, and with Phil and Louise's help with lifts in their minibus we managed very well without a car. The ski slopes are conveniently near too. We intend to return.

Great welcome from Louise & Phil who are very present and visible in the hotel. The other staff are very friendly and helpful as well.

We stayed in family rooms, Room 3 has a wonderful view of the mountains, but be warned the church bells ring on the hour, half hour and I think 15 mins from 7am - 10pm with extra special ringing at 7 in the evening, our friends in room 1 didn't hear them although they didn't have the splendid view. Rooms are reasonably spacious you could just about have squeezed a family of four in the family rooms as they have a double and a bunk bed.

We were on half board and the quality of food was very good. Breakfasts were a treat as you didn't know what hot speciality would be served - my favourite was the french toast with bacon, yum. Dinners were of a good standard too, amazing lemon meringue pie - no choice was offered though so if you are particularly fussy you might want to see what was on in the morning. Good selection of wines and kir petillant by the glass which we very much enjoyed in the hot tub prior to dinner.

The chalet/hotel is quite remote, I was expecting it to be in a village with a few shops, but it is haut verchaix so the lower bit would be about a 20 min walk down hill so if you want an evening stroll there is little around of interest. The ski bus is not terribly frequent, although Phil was very amenable about offering a bus trip down to Morillon at 9.30 and picking up from Samoens in the afternoon as would have had to take 2 ski buses to get back from there. Therefore if you are an independant type I would recommend hiring a car.

Skiing in the area is good with a selection of resorts to choose from. Overall a great stay.

Room Tip: If you like a nice view go for the front facing rooms - beware of the church bells though !

Had a great stay here in January 2012 with friends and family. Phil and Louise are excellent hosts with years of experience under their belts. This was our 4th visit, but the first one for the skiing (don't miss out on visiting in summer). The nearest resort is only 5 minutes away, and Phil was happy to drive us there in a morning, and pick us up at the end of the day. Louise kindly arranged the equipment hire and lessons for us all. The food is excellent, the hot-tub is worth a try, and the bar is well stocked and reasonably priced.Rooms are clean and warm, and the views are to die for.

Easy access from Geneva, great service from Phil and Louise, a superb menu, and the Grand Massif ski area on the doorstep make La Terrasse de Verchaix a place we will certainly be coming back to. Excellent!

Had a great stay here with 4 friends at the begining of Feb 2012. 5 min drive to the slopes (Phil/Louise are very nice and very happy to drive you and help sorting with ski gear). Rooms clean and warm, bar a nice option, food is excellent and the chef and seasonaires (Beth and Katrina) are very helpful and friendly and there is a hot-tub, ski room etc. All very easy to get up, lovely breakfast, ski all day, back for a drink, relax and a meal etc.

A great experience for anyone looking to do a few nights near some great skiing, near Geneva, wanting a really lovely hotel with good service, facilities, bar etc at a reasonable cost. A+++

Ps - free wifi - always seems to be an important thing for tripadvisor reviews...

Pps - not a place if you wanted 24/7 massive party time as not a lot of local bars - but then if you are looking here you probably already knew that - Tons of skiing though really really close -and some of the friendliest French resorts I've been to.

Myself and the two brothers Lacey had a truely great stay at La Terrasse de Verchaix. It's a clever thing to combine the best features of both hotel and chalet in one well-wrapped parcel, but I think Phil and Louise have achieved it here. On the one hand, we were presented with flexibility, responsiveness and real professionalism throughout the enquiry and booking stages, as well as during our 7 night stay, whilst also enjoying a real personal touch and ski chalet atmosphere. Worthy of a mention in despatches (and in no particular order) would be: consistently top-notch food - for the marketplace we're in here, excellent; service was with a genuine smile and that certainly includes the very helpful and friendly staff; the local surroundings and quality of the refurbishment you'll get from other reviews - both excellent; the personal way in which our holiday was made special - we certainly got the inside track with the hosts' freely given local knowledge, including a couple of very enjoyable days out on the pistes with Phil/Louise. Altogether, if you're looking at this area and this price range, you could do far, far worse. Highly recommended.

I spent a week here with friends. We were very lucky with the weather and the snow conditions. The whole week was fun and so easy. A 10 minute drive to the ski lift - we could have got the bus,, but Phil waas usually on hand to take us!..The food was excellent and the beds very comfortable. I would definately recommend this small hotel to anyone and will probably revisit during the summer.

We haven't stayed as guests of this hotel, but we made extensive use of their outside terrace during a stay at a nearby chalet in July 2011.

The owner made a real impression when I first poked my head around the door, he warmly welcomed us and showed us to their amazing terrace with views of the valley below, and hills beyond that. We were delighted to have this great restaurant/bar/hotel in easy reach of our chalet. We enjoyed long conversations with Philip and Louise and their team of enthusiastic helpers, Philip even drove us home in his van when the weather turned inclement, which he is happy to do for regulars (which we became).

Food is excellent, and Philip can even offer UK bottled 'bitters' which is a nice touch if you're feeling homesick!

Philip and Louise are a font of local knowledge, so go see them, enjoy a pint and talk Tour de France with them both :-)
Oh and by the way, free WiFi is available!
