Loved the views, apartment, pool, proximity to sea and so peaceful. Not for those wanting to be in the centre of all the activity but this is easily reached with a short car journey.

Couldn't have wished for a nicer place to stay.

Room Tip: Good size bedrooms. Apartment 6 has lovely views. Price includes air conditioning.

We stayed for one week in 2012 and felt that a week was not enough so booked a two week break in mid July 2014. Once again we were taken by how relaxing the setting is with the pool looking across to the Northern tip of Zante and the gardens impressive with paths that wind their way around the apartments. For us this continues to impress with self catering the ideal option, allowing you the freedom to enjoy different tavernas in the local villages using the hire car provided when you book through Simply Travel. We felt a little more adventurous this time and journeyed out to several different villages of note with each trip very enjoyable. Generally the standard of driving is quite good but you are best to stick to the central roads and avoid the unsurfaced tracks. All in all we have returned home once again extremely pleased with our choice, enjoying good company, great weather with the Greeks making you feel very welcome.

We just had a week at this accommodation situated a 5 minute drive from the popular holiday resort of Skala. For a 'self catering' holiday the price seemed high, but when we got there we could see why.

We had been allocated apartment 6 (out of 6), and it was fantastic. Two double bedrooms, a large lounge / kitchen area, a bathroom and another seperate WC made up the accommodation. The living room area lead out onto a roomy balcony which overlooked the beautiful gardens at the property and the sea beyond.

The bedrooms both had large built in wardrobes and drawers, and the kitchen contained all the cutlery and crockery you could want. All we had to buy was some washing up liquid. The lounge area had two large sofa's, which on closer inspection were actually sofa beds. There was a small TV, but it didn't work and other guests also reported theirs were the same but it didn't matter at all as we weren't there to watch Greek TV!

A practical tip - bring your own hairdryer as the hairdryer fitted to the bathroom wall wouldn't blow out a match!

The property is on the side of a steep slope, and you have to park your hire car at the bottom, so be aware you will have a bit of a uphill stroll to get to your apartment. The higher your apartment number the further you will have to walk up the hill, so as we were in No 6 we certainly got a workout.

The gardens at the property are beautiful and are a credit to the two ladies (possibly mother and daughter?) who tend them every day. Roses in particular gave off a lovely scent and made the walk up and down to the pool a pleasure.

Regarding the pool it is a fair size, 14m long by 7m wide and was about 6 feet deep at the deepest. It was a bit chilly when you first got in but you soon aclimatised. The pool was bordered by stone walls and again a beautiful selection of flowers and shrubs and a very roomy grass area. There are plenty of sunbeds and becuse there are just 6 apartments there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. What a contrast to a hotel where you feel like sardines.

There is a Taverna literally next door and a small snack bar, both of which are run by the same people. The food here was great, with a good choice of traditional Greek cuisine and fresh fish. A two course meal for two with a couple for drinks tended to be 25 - 30 euros, and although the climb up to the restaurant was equally steep as the one to the apartment you could drive up as they had a small car park at the back.

We were glad that there was literally just the beach, the sea, the Taverna and nothing else near to the property but if you have teenagers they may not agree. Skala is literally a 5 minute drive away though, and this has all the bars, restaurants and small shops you could want. It's nice that Skala never felt 'rough' or 'chavvy', and certainly in June when we were there it has a nice family feel to it and wasn't too crowded. This may be different in the height of the season in July and August.

We took a day to explore the island by car and visited most of the main resorts on a drive that took us up the coast road east from Skala before turning inland on a twisty road to Sami. The scenery was beautiful, with tall cypress trees and greenery giving a feeling of being in Tuscany rather than a hot greek lsland.

The road to the north of the island was a bit hair-raising in places, and if you are squeamish about heights and roads with no safety barriers it might not be for you. We ended up at Fiskardo, an attractive fishing village that everyone recommends you visit. It is pretty and the harbour is a pleasant place to have lunch but in reality there isn't much else there and its a long drive from Skala.

As long as you have a hire car for the duration of your holiday you are never more than a short drive from anything you could need to make your holiday complete. Add in some very nice people that were also at the accommodation at the same time as us for some friendly banter around the pool, and it was pretty much perfect.

To sum up Carettas Nest has changed our view on what we want from a holiday in the future. We have previously always chosen hotels, some all inclusive, some half board but compared to this wonderful find they all now seem noisy and crowded.

Room Tip: Even numbered apartments are on the second floor, so If you like sitting on a balcony looking at the...

Just returned from a week at Carettas Nest and feel fully relaxed. I f you want quite, then this is the place. We arrived around 9pm so it was dark, So a torch is recommended. The drive from the airport is straight forward if not a little winding. We were met by are rep at the airport who pointed us in the right direction to the hire care company. She arranged to meet us the next morning at 9am and was a fountain of knowledge about the Island. The apartments are up a narrow slope with limited turning at the top. You have to reverse down at night due to the Turtles on the beach following lights. Parking is ample at the bottom of the drive. We were allocated no 4 There is a difference in the numbering system used in the UK to the resort so if you want to book a certain apartment you will be better to check with Lou the rep and she will sort it that end.
The apartments numbered from the bottom, were very spacious all with a balcony or patio area, we had two twin beds. There is a tele but we didnt use it at all but it is only small.
The bathroom is on the small side but the shower was good. There is two rings on the stove ,a toaster and kettle
There was a welcome pack on arrival that consisted of Bread, milk, butter, jam, yougarts and of course, a bottle of wine.
The pool is down to the bottom of the slope there is plenty of space and doesnt get crowded. Good sun beds and beutifull gardens full of roses and geraniums.
Kristina the manager cant do enough for you, anything you want just ask.
There is a Taverna next door that is lovely. The food is excellent but it is a walk up a slope. In the day time there is a snack bar at the bottom
The beach is just 100m from the apartments with plenty of sunbeds and shades
Skala is a 10 min drive away were there is a supermarket , bars and restuarnts, all good value and also around the bay, wghat you can see from your apartments, there are plenty of fish restuarnts and if you go to the bar with the green lights you will meet a american greek lady who is very entertaining and welcoming.
If you want a quite relaxing holiday then this is the place to go, we loved every minute of our stay. Met some lovely people. We didnt have a bad meal anywerewe ate and at a average cost of around 50 Euro for two courses with drinks maximum
Will definatly be returning in the near future

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view then no 6 is the one it as paramic views over the bay we had no 4 whi...

Arrived on the 15 September and stayed for a week. Fairly straightforward drive from the airport just watch you dont miss the last turning off the main road to the apartments. About a 34 kilometre drive which took approx 45 minutes. The final turning takes you onto a steep downwards road leading to a gravel track taking you to the apartments. We had asked for apartment 2 which is the top floor of the front building - this was based on another tripadvisors advice, and were not disappointed. Fantastic location looking onto the bay. The apratment is spacious with a large lounge/dining area and kitchen, large double bedroom with 2 single beds and a small shower room. Positives are its clean, spacious, comfortable and very quiet - I suppose that may have been because 5 of the 6 apartment occupants were middle aged couples on their own and all seemed to be there for a quiet holiday. Negatives are that the kitchen could have done with an oven and/or microwave as only cooking facilities were two electric hobs. Also the shower room could do with an overall, more the shower unit which was a bit grotty and needs to be re-sealed and tidied up a bit. Towels and sheets changed on Wednesday (and Sunday if staying a fortnight) and bathroom cleaned and bins emptied daily - I have to say the young lass who seemed to be responsible for the complex worked really hard and did everything from housekeeping to gardening.

Have to admit by day five we were a bit bored, even though we had gone to chill out its not normally the type of holiday we go for, preferring an active type holiday. However we went expecting it to be quiet and it was so shouldn't complain. We were fairly central on the island so got out and about, roads were ok but narrow and not every greek is as slow and careful as your average tourist. I say careful but why is it that British guys suddenly risk life and limb to hire a moped, not wear a helmet an let their partner ride on the back with nothing more than a bikini to protect them! perhaps I'm getting old but its pretty stupid. All in all a good holiday and a beautiful place to stay.

One word of warning - we flew with Thomsons and they were overly strict on the luggage weights going home. So strict they were actually extremely rude and unreasonable. Made a couple of young girls in front of us empty their bags and juggle stuff around just for the sake of a couple of kilograms. I appreciate wieght is important to a flight but the females concerned only loaded the things they took out back into their hand luggage anyway after they had moved away from the check in desk making the whole episode absolutely pointless apart from making Thomsons a bit extra money. The whole attitude left a bad taste when leaving which is a shame.

Room Tip: As for apartment 2, first block top floor.

Visited during August 2013, what a fabulous place to take a holiday. Caretta's Nest was easy to find the directions given were very accurate. Of the 6 apartments we had number 4 which had a balcony overlooking the sea. The gardens and pool were beautiful and so well kept, pool never got busy because there are so few apartments. There is a Taverna within a few minutes walk a beach bar next door and the beach only a couple of minutes walk away. Sea was lovely and warm and shallow for a long way out which made it feel very safe, beach quite stoney as you enter water.
The towns of Skala and Katelios are both only a few minutes drive away and both have mini supermarkets, Skala is probably the better.
Hired a small speedboat in Katelios for the day, we travelled up the west coast of the island and visited a number of small coves not accessible from land, what a great day.
Took a drive round the island visiting Myrtos Beach which has to be seen, you need wet shoes as the beach is a pebble beach, we then travelled to Assos which was a fantastic place to sit and have a lobster lunch looking over the small harbour and bay.
Would definitely holiday again at Caretta's Nest we had a wonderful week.

Booked a late deal and decided on Kefalonia as had not been before. Booked through Simply Travel and the reviews sounded great. However, nothing can match how idyllic and peaceful this accommodation is.
There are 6 apartments, we were in No1 which was ideal for pool, lovely terrace and 3 minute walk to beach. Rooms were clean, well stocked and a lovely welcome pack was included in the holiday.
Simply Travel include a car as the accommodation is off the beaten track, hence the peace and quiet. The only sounds we heard were the goat bells coming down from the hills in the morning and the waves lapping the shore.
We will definitely be going back, if you want rest and quiet then this is the place for you. Perfection.
