Kelari Taverna is up in the hills of Old Skala, which overlooks Skala village and the Ionian below.

The views are to die for - especially as the sun is setting.

As for the food, we had Prawn Saganaki and Stuffed Peppers to start, followed by Lamb Souvlaki and Mama's Meatballs. We did not order dessert, but fresh fruit was brought out to us after our meal, on the house which was a nice touch!

We got a taxi both to and from old Skala at a cost of €24 euros return and the lady who took us to the restaurant said we were fine to pay on the way back! When we were collected after our meal, the Chef was ready to leave so we shared our Taxi down to Skala with him - he was a lovely chap, must have been in his 70s and didn't speak a word of English but sang along in Greek to the radio all the way down. He asked the taxi driver to invite us to his son's bar in Skala for a drink on him but we politely declined as we were going that way anyway so it was no problem for him to share.

We will definitely be making a trip up to old Skala during our visit this year for a lovely meal at Kelari!

We stayed in a villa nearby so ate here on our second night as we didn't want to drive into Skala. We had such a lovely time that we went back 4 more evenings to try different things on the menu! The staff are so friendly and really welcome you warmly. The first night we had a table on the lower terrace and after that we moved to the upper terrace. Either way the views are absolutely incredible and I could literally look at them forever. We ate the rigonada for starter (my favourite) - warm, toasted bread covered in tomatoes, feta cheese and drizzled with olive oil and herbs. The portion is huge so make sure you share! Grandmother's meatballs are divine too, as is the Kefalonian meat pie. We also had grilled prawns, squid (a huge whole one!), souvlaki, prawns in tomato/ouzo sauce and the most gorgeous baklava with ice-cream. If you don't order a pudding, they'll bring you yoghurt and honey on the house. If you do order pudding they bring you the Greek liqueur mastica (not sure I've spelled that correctly!) also on the house. Would definitely recommend! If you're lucky you'll see and hear the goats making their way up the hillside.

PS They do delivery too (which we didn't try).

We stumbled across this tavern whilst walking up from Skala. A lovely walk along quiet roads with the views getting increasingly better the higher we rose.
A brilliant setting overlooking southern Cephalonia and over to Zante.
Had a couple of drinks before continuing our trek.
We decided to return in the evening and got a taxi up in the evening with our wives.
We arrived with sun still up but as it went down and got darker the lights shone out like little stars down below us. A lovely setting for the evening.
The waiter was very good, but was busy as this place is popular, so a little wait for the food, which was not a problem when you have the fine weather, wine and views.
The food was excellent, especially the goat stew.
We would highly recommend this tavern if you want a relaxing time, with great food and views.

This taverna must have the best view in (old) Skala! The view itself is reason enough to visit this place, but the food there is also very good and the staff is very polite. Go here if you want a good experience! PS. The prices is also quite fair; we had two frappe's, two large bottels of water (1,5L) and two main courses for under 40€. Money well spend!

We are here twice and had two takeaways, delivered very efficiently, hot and on time. This taverna should be on the NHS. It is relaxing, tranquil, remote, friendly, delicious and excellent value. Five of us (3 teenagers), we ate Caesar salad - an utter joy - stuffed aubergines, pork chop, chicken souvlaki, squid, bread, onion rings etc etc. All delightful and beyond relaxing with delicious wine and cold beer. Brilliant value and a total pleasure. Visit!
