We had a fairly nice stay 11th July for five nights - we weren't expecting much as we'd only paid £90 for three of us each day all inclusive. True to expectations, the room was basic with a tiny bathroom and a room that didn't have a view. We didn't complain as we were only staying five nights. The food was fresh but not really well presented with a torn mosquito net placed over the dishes to keep the flies and wasps off the food. There were hot dishes and a couple of salads. I think they should emply the young man who cuts up the greek salad (which is already available on the salad bar) to grill fresh fish or make fresh pizza or something plain for the children/adults who did'nt like cinnamon. The drinks were pretty dire - flavourless, watery coke and undrinkable wine - no cocktails all inclusive. We had to pay for the pool towels. The wi-fi connection didn't work - there was a problem with the cables. There were too many wasps to eat outside comfortable but we found this all over the island and was apparently due to the mild spring this year.
On the positive side, the staff were very friendly, including aforementioned young man and Maria the chef. The pool was lovely. The stony coves opposite were good for snorkelling and a refreshing swim. As another poster mentioned, with a little investment this could be a really nice hotel. For the price of five nights here, I would have preferred four nights at the Regina or 9 Muses.

Room Tip: Rooms 101 - 110 seemed good - they were at the front and had nice views of the sea, some with two ba...

I really loved this place. it is a colourful amfitheatric complex of seperated houses (like a small village) with great sea view! The food was amazing!real tasty Greek food and fresh salads ( a young man was cutting in front of you your own Greek salad and later on fresh fruits! In the morning he was preparing great omelette just for you! Great surprise for a four star hotel!). I loved the swimming pool and especially appreciated the fact that the gym which had exactly what I needed, was not somewhere hidden in the basement of a building as it is always the case!it was just next to the pool and you could see the pool and the sea when training! I loved reading my book in the balcony of my room, enjoying the amazing colours of the sea in the sunset..will definitely go back.

We've just returned from Porto Skala and were very impressed. Our room, 105, was at the front with exceptional views.( With two balconies!)Yes some rooms are up a few stairs but the hotel is on the side of a mountain!!
If your room is close to reception you might be able to get the wifi, as well as wifi around the pool area, reception and bar area!
The food was good! Loads of salad you can pick yourself. Or get a bowl made fresh for you by the friendly salad/melon/ice cream guy! The chef was always there to tell you what was what! Lots of tasty Greek dishes.
Our room was cleaned everyday, nice touch with the heart shaped towels and flowers on one day! Air con was free and worked so well! Good hair dryer, kettle and fridge!

Location was good, amazing cove and pebble beach directly in front of the hotel! Perfect for snorkelling. Or a quiet alternative to sitting by the pool. Walk to skala was about half hour, could be difficult in midday sun but the hotel provides a free mini bus there and back till 6. (Have to book a time on the day!) taxi = 5 euros each way.

Skala is a little town with bars and a few shops, we didn't go on the sandy beach but played giant chess and visited the roman villa!
We hired a car for three days, so many things to see and do on Kefalonia. (Plenty of boat trips and excursions) Roads are very easy to navigate, although some are quite high and bendy!! But you get used to it.

Overall we loved Kefalonia, and Porto Skala made our holiday. Friendly staff, very clean rooms and good location. There is no entertainment and the bar music is repetitive however we just went into skala (Captain's bar) or chilled out on our balconies!

Anyone lucky enough to stay in room 105, please say hello to Darren, the smaller balconie's resident Lizard!

We stayed in Porto Skala Hotel from the 13th June - 21st of June and had a great time! Upon arrival we were taken to our room. It was a very basic room but the large balcony, swimming pool, restaurant area and beach across the road more than made up for it. I'm a vegetarian and found the food really nice. Big salad bar every day, plenty to choose from and all the staff working very hard to ensure you have plenty of drinks and are provided with a great service. I do not think the photos on here do the hotel justice. The sun loungers now have comfy cushions and there are lot's of leafy, parasols to protect you from the hot sun. The hotel itself has lot's of pretty flowers surrounding it and the open restaurant is really nice on a hot evening. The pool was never too busy and the walk to Skala is a bit of a trek but easily done. If you don't fancy the walk, the hotel provides a shuttle bus and a taxi is only 5 euros. The staff were really friendly, especially Vas. If you don't fancy a quiet evening sitting on the balcony opposite the night time bar, then you can head into Skala. Captain's is a must and a regular haunt of Simon Pegg's?! There were lot's of photos of him in there and a great newspaper article he had written about Kefalonia. It's a really beautiful Island and I would recommend getting a car as it's very easy to find your way around and explore. If you want to book a boat for the day to explore the private, sandy, beaches and coves remember to book in advance! We left it too late so missed out. I would also suggest taking reef shoes...the beaches are stunning but you do look a bit silly trying to clamber in and out of the sea over all the pebbles and rocks......not something which can be done elegantly! ;)

If you find using steps difficult then this hotel is not for you. The site is tiered and there are many steps. The location is a good walk from the main town but is doable. All inclusive is the best option as the beers and spirits are expensive and you will drink a lot whilst here due to the heat. The house wines are possibly the worst house wines on the island, so dont be put off trying wines elsewhere. All local spirits are part of the inclusive deal ironically Metaxa isnt. The food is ok with breakfast being the best meal. The chef Maria is pleasant and attentive and will happily take suggestions on meals to cook. The staff are mainly Eastern European with little English but are pleasant enough.Bring your own tea as he hotels breakfast tea is extremely poor. The pool is excellent but be wary of the plastic sun loungers as they are old and prone to collapsing. The metal sun beds are sound. There are two coves immediately in front of the hotel which provide superb sea swimming but the decent is awkward. Buy some neoprene shoes as there is little sand and getting in and out can prove problematic. This is not a 4* hotel by our standards it is probably 2-3*. I would go back again but at the right price I feel we paid too much. The island is fantastic.

We were transferred by tour company from Utopia Hotel(issues with Tui and Hotel) to Porto Scala so really had to just go with the flow. Yes the hotel is in need of refurbishment in rooms and lobby area, but I don't go on holiday to sit in my room. The area is stunning and if you hire a car the world is your oyster. A special mention goes to Maria the chef, amazing variety of modern and traditional greek food which was fresh, healthy and more than ample. Breakfast was a real treat, with so many hot options and a chef who would cook fresh. We were all inclusive for the first time ever and the service was very good, my glass was never empty at dinner. The beach just over the road was small, but private and perfect for a cool dip any time of day. We enjoyed a trip to Itacha arranged by hotel which was very nice. Ok so it was not the spa hotel we had booked, but this hotel was clean and rooms made up everyday. Nothing was a problem . The mattress was too hard for me, but this was only a minor issue. Good Luck Porto Scala and thankyou for a most enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view and high up. The rooms with the roof are more airy. We were 906 and it was very...

Just returned from our second visit to this hotel and it was so lovely to see the friends we made before, both in the hotel and in the local area. The staff are just so wonderful and make this hotel the success it should be. We had a lovely room with two balconies, kept clean and tidy by the discreet and efficient cleaning staff on a daily basis. Pool area kept clean and the flowers are just coming out after a late spring which really makes the hotel look so attractive. Praise must go to dear Koula in the restaurant and bar - always laughing, always smiling and managing to efficiently carrying out her job whilst looking after you so well. We miss you already! Maria and her team work tirelessly to produce lovely Greek food - we cannot believe the comments previously made, so unfair. We ate well at breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food is always fresh and varied. All we can say is we look forward to seeing you all again as soon as we are able. On a slightly different note, I would recommend a car to get the best from this beautiful island.

Room Tip: Upgrade to sea view, its is worth it, although most rooms have pleasant outlooks
