Ater visiting Skala last year to find a location to get married we decided on the 9 muses hotel in the beautiful chapel.
We stayed at Papalis last year but as we were getting married at 9 muses we stayed there this year!
Wow..what an amazing hotel, so clean and such hard working staff who always have a smile on their faces and would do anything to help you. The breakfast choice was really good. Some of our wedding guests stayed at other hotels nearby and didnt have as much breakfast choice as us. The location is perfect and overlooks the beautiful beach. I would highly recommed getting the water taxi just outside the hotel to another beach aswell, its quite private with lots of restuarants with fresh fish and makes a change.
Captains bar in the evening is a great place to have drinks before your evening meal, fantastic staff and good atmosphere.
Our wedding Day was just so perfect and its all down to my wedding planner Donna and the staff at the 9 muses hotel. Food was perfect and staff were so oragnaised with the lay out of my reception meal. We had a Greek band for entertainment and all our guests and even people at our hotel joined in and were dancing all night.everything about the hotel was brilliant.I cannot fault anyhting and we will be returning for our anniversary! :-)

Very high standard of cleanliness, fantastic beach front location and 2 pools one of which was the 'quiet' pool. Breakfast was good and had a wide range of options to choose from. We eat out for dinner when we go abroad and would highly recommend doing so, but we did at in the Avra restaurant a few times and the food was lovely. Also did a nice lunch time menu both in the restaurant and in the pool bar. All staff were very friendly and helpful. We went in the last 2 weeks in June and it was lovely and quiet but we did notice the island was starting to get busy with children in the second week. We stayed at the same time as the welsh wedding party, who have been previously mentioned but didn't have any trouble with them although we did notice the 'quiet' pool got busier.
The hotel had some lovely 'bonuses' such as free wifi in reception and having a book swap with plenty of books to choose from, which was handy as none of us brought our kindles and ended up running out of books. Another bonus was that we werent charged for the air conditioning in the room (which was definitely needed), we were pleasantly surprised by this as on other holidays in Greece we've always been charged for the use of air con.
Eating out in Skala offers you plenty of choices, we visited The Pines as was highly recommended in previous reviews which was lovely, however we thought The Old Village was a real gem. Lovely garden setting, white table clothes and fairy lighting. The staff were fantastic and remembered us and gave us excellent service each time we visited and the food was first class and the portions were just right.
We did the Kefalonia island trip which included a visit to the Drogarati caves and Melissani lake which was worth doing although the coach was very hot and we probably could have hired a car out and done it ourselves for cheaper. There is also a boat trip which picks you up from the beach front which is worth doing. Plenty of watersports available on the beach too.
Also worth having a camera for the airport transfer as you drive through some lovely villages.
Not sure if it was the time of year or the island but mosquitos weren't really a problem, we had plug in mosquito repellant in the rooms but never bothered to put mosquito repellant on before going out and only ever got the odd bite which was pleasant after having been bitten quite a lot on other islands such as Corfu and Zante.
All in all a fantastic 2 weeks, very relaxing and chilled. Would highly recommend!

I can't fault this hotel but, like others, I hesitate to tell people because everyone will want to go! We went to this hotel with Thomsons who were excellent throughout - Good accommodation - we had a suite with 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies overlooking the mountains and with a bit of a sea view. Everything was kept spotlessly clean and a minor problem with a squeaky door was fixed within minutes. All the staff without exception were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good in the sea-facing Avra restaurant- scrambled eggs, tomato, ham, toast and wonderful fresh fruit and greek yoghourt with a selection of croissants and muffins etc. the position is also good with boat trips and buses just across from the hotel. The beach is a bit stony so I would advise beach shoes. (2 sunbeds 6 Euros for the day) We did the Ithaka and Kefalonia coast trips with Captain Vangelis cruises which were wonderful. We also did a great evening trip to Argostoli with Panem (the office is in the main street). Probably cheaper than equivalent trips with Thomsons. It's about a 15 minute walk into the village and we ate at half dozen different restaurants - all the meals more reasonably priced than I'd expected. Particularly enjoyed the Mikelatos Scandinavian, the Manor House, Socrates and Scirocco. Nowhere was over busy - ialthough the sunbeds at the lower pool were always full. The upper pool was smaller and quieter. A wonderful holiday!

Room Tip: Rooms up by the lower pool are quieter.

As many others have said the hotel is beautiful and picturesque and always fantastically clean and the staff are genuinely friendly. The bed was super king size and probably the most comfortable we've ever experienced. The room had a fridge and hairdryer together with a TV, and very powerful air conditioning. There is a safe in the room which is charged at 18 Euros per week.

We were bed and breakfast and the breakfast was continental style with an additional charge of 4 Euros for cooked english style breakfasts.

There is a bar round the pool and as a guide a large lager was about 3 Euros, and there was plenty of choice including local and imported beers and ciders. They have a good menu of snacks and light lunches too.

There is another cocktail bar attached to the hotel which does excellent cocktails, and is very popular between 6-8pm when they have a happy hour. The only thing we would say is you will need to be patient if its busy!

About a 10 minute stroll brings you into the centre of Skala where there is a great choice of bars and restaurants most of whom offer a happy hour or two. Captains Bar has a brilliant atmosphere and provides great music and very large cocktails.

With a flight time of under 3 hours Kefalonia is a great short haul destination and the Nine Muses Hotel is just about perfect.

Previous reviews say it all really. We had a fantastic week at the 9 Muses at the end of July. We couldn't fault the place. We had an apartment at the front overlooking the swimming pool and the beach. Everywhere was kept spotless during our stay and we spent many a happy hour at the cocktail bar before and after our evening meal. Amanda was a great host and we made some good friends. All the staff there where friendly and courteous, without exception. I would particularly mention Athina who served breakfast and worked on the bar during the day. She was always smiling! Breakfasts were very nice and plentiful and we ate at the hotel on three occasions in the evening. All meals were very good and reasonably priced. There are plenty of other restaurants around as well. The only downside was the beach, which was very pebbly and sloped sharply into the sea. We ventured in and the sea was lovely though. People were buying canvas shoes in the town which helped with walking in and out of the sea. We spent most of our time in and around the main pool, which was lovely. We had an amazing relaxing holiday - just what we needed - and won't hesitate to return.

This was our first visit to Kefalonia, and I don't expect it to be our last!! We stayed at the Nine Muses for one week at the end of July. The hotel is just 'picture perfect' and as beautiful and clean as all the photographs in the brochures! We had a double room opposite the small pool, which gave us a lovely view of the mountains as well as a view out to sea. The maid was exceptional, and our room was always well cleaned with an interesting array of towel sculptures each day! We generally used the small pool as it was very quiet during the day, which suited us, and ALWAYS had sunbeds available. The poolside bar opened at around 12.30pm and supplied drinks, ice creams and all types of food. The cold coffees were delicious!
We stayed bed and breakfast - which was available from 8am until 10.30am. We experienced both early and late breakfasts - due to an early start with the cruise to Ithica and a rather lovely lay in after enjoying the cocktails at Amandas bar, and each time there was plenty of food available - hot food included scrambled eggs, baked beans and some kind of sausage, as well as fresh fruit, breads, cereals and of course, hard boiled eggs.
The cruise was fantastic, and the boat leaves from the beach outside the hotel, very handy!! Tips for the best seats, has to be at the rear, on the top deck. Its cool and the views were magnificent!!
There is a huge variety of restaurants in the town, about 10 mins walk. We really enjoyed The Garden Room, which had a delicious lamb dish and enjoyed the free flowing wine!! All the restaurants we tried were good, as was the food in the Hotel - where we ate a few times.
However, my favourite time of day was the 'Happy Hour', from 6pm until 8pm, at the bar in the Avra - Amandas Bar - where we sampled the absolutely delicious (and very generous) cocktails - made by Amanda - who was great fun - always smiling and keen to make our stay even more delightful! We sat overlooking the sea, drinking cocktails and taking in the scenery - sheer bliss!
We shall return!!

Having holidayed in Skala on and off for about 10 years, we have stayed in the San giorgio, the Asteris and the Anassa, which were all lovely but the Nine muses was top grade and above what is typical of small and friendly Greek accommodation.
From the moment we arrived we felt impressed by the way the hotel catered for us, be it small things like a bottle of wine and cold bottle of water waiting for us in the room, a bottle of wine on my birthday and use of an iron!!!!!!. The rooms were modern and spacious and the air con worked a dream (at no extra cost). We were blessed to have a fantastic maid who left the place sparkling every day, she was always happy to see my little 2 year old and made a big fuss of him.
The staff too could not do enough for us. Maria who looked after the bar at the smaller quiet pool where we resided, kept us topped up with drinks and snacks all day, always wearing a beautiful smile. Athina who looked after us at breakfast was polite and attentive, as well as the rest of the resturant staff always happy to help.
The only small negative was the lack of vibes at the pool bar on the evening, so I would recommend going next door to the bar at the Anassa, as we did, as they seemed to have more singers, quiz nights etc.
A great stay, definatly going back.
