Great location, great staff, really friendly & value for money, we would definitely stay there again. This was our sixth year in kefalonia & our first stay in this hotel, the rooms are a good size with plenty of space & the balconies are large, the food service at the bar was lovely with all fresh cooked food, they also have off street parking.

We stayed for 2 weeks from the 12th June and had the best time ever, our room was 406 and gave us a really nice view.. The rooms were spotless and linen and towels were changed every 2nd days. We had our lunch at the hotel every day bar one and I can honestly say they were delicious and very good value for money. Owner and Staff of the hotel could not do enough to make you feel welcome and really enjoy your holiday. I would certainly recommend The Makis and would love to go back.

This is the first time we have stayed at a hotel for our holiday, we usually go self catering, and were delighted that we came to the Makis Hotel. In our experience while we were there, all of the staff were very polite and helpful. We stayed in room 412, which was on the top floor of the rear block. The room was excellent, bright and clean, and we could not find any fault. The room was what we asked for and got. The Hotel is just across the road from the Beach, and near the town centre with all the bars and restaurants. The Pikiona, next to the hotel was our favourite and in our opinion, was the best we visited. Our stay at the Makis Hotel made our stay in Skala perfect.

I had not been to this hotel before but found the staff friendly and helpful with possibly the exception of the young barman in the evening. The rooms were clean and pleasant and we were on the 1st floor of the block at the back. Towels changed every 2 days and equipped with a fridge, only downside was no kettle so if you want a cuppa in the morning take a travel kettle.the breakfasts were good and varied. Sometimes I think people have false expectations of hotels and want 5 star treatment when paying 2 star prices. This hotel was good value for money and would I go back? The answer would be yes.

We stayed for a week and after initially being thrilled with the location and appearance of this hotel, we were sadly disappointed with our ground floor room and shared balcony at the rear of the property partially overlooking the next door restaurant / trees, but to the side the caravan shared by the cleaners next to a brick wall used by the smokers. The cleaners were lovely, but not a view I wish to look out on. The balcony was just a shared entrance to the two rooms on ground floor level. We too felt that our room was too dark, especially in the evenings and it was really difficult to see to apply make up in either the bathroom or bedroom. Like a previous report, we too felt that our expression of disappointment was met with resentment and that it created an unpleasant atmosphere with the staff especially the receptionist, who was positively rude and downright nasty to us. Most of the reviews you will read will probably be great as the best rooms are fabulous, but if you are unlucky enough to get a substandard room and the hotel is "fully booked" (or so they said), you are pretty lumbered. We would have felt a lot better if they had even accepted that our room was poor or that there was a price differential between the rooms, but there isn't. The hotel rep was young and very jolly, but totally ineffective. There are much nicer hotels all in the same location. This hotel relies heavily on repeat guests - up to 50% of their allocation and they are extremely friendly towards their repeat customers. We told them that they appear to have differing standards in how they treat their guests. Skala however is simply wonderful - just pick a better hotel.

Room Tip: Don't accept a ground floor room

Just returned from a very much needed relaxing week in the wonderful Kefalonia. We stayed at the Makis and had an excellent room in the back building on the top floor, where you had a view of both the mountains and the ocean (I understand the comments about the ground floor rooms , you need to be on the middle or top floor). We found the room to be basic, but clean and met all our needs for the week e.g safe, air con, fridge. The breakfast was excellent, large choice of fruit, yoghurt, toast, pastries etc. We used the beach rather than the pool, 5 euros for 2 beds and a brolly. From the experience we had of the staff they seemed very friendly. This was our 3rd trip to the island, but first staying at the Makis, we would return as long as we had a room with a view!

Room Tip: Request a room on the top floor, if in the building at the back

We have very high expectations of small & friendly hotels. However this was not to the same excellent standards we have experienced in the past few years. The initial room was dark, dingy and damp, we were moved but I am afraid this was held against us and quite frankly the owners were abrupt and very rude. Skala was beautiful, trips were good but overall we were disappointed.
