“Small & Friendly in Skala”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

Stayed first week September as a couple in this lovely hotel. The rooms were spacious; plenty of hanging space and drawer space, with fridge and kettle provided. The upper rooms are probably better than those with a terrace. Buffet style breakfast, plenty of variety ie cereal, yoghurt, fruit, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, savoury pancakes etc. Pool area was spotlessly clean with comfortable sun beds and sofa type chairs. No problem getting a sun bed. Excellent service at pool bar for drinks and snacks. Sula, a lovely lady, very friendly seemed to run the show as regards pool bar, serving food, breakfast etc. Beach 2 mins from hotel with plenty of sun beds and parasols 5 euros. The beach shelves quite steeply into the sea and is, therefore, difficult to get out so beach shoes would help, also for strolling along the beach. We had lunch at the two tavernas close to hotel with good standard of food and service. Ten minute walk into town where there are plenty of restaurants. One of our favourites was the Manor House. Will definitely be going back some time. Having visited Majorca in June we found Kefalonia prices to be far cheaper all round.

Room Tip: B2 is side sea view with sun all day. B3 and B4 overlook the pool with sun in the morning. B5 and B...

Having stayed in Skala a couple of times, getting married there last year & having guests in various hotels in and around Skala we can honestly say that although we have had no complaints about any of the hotels, we have now made the Melidron our absolute favourite.

All the staff are so welcoming and friendly, going out of their way to remember you by name and make sure you are enjoying your stay.

The pool area is lovely and quiet with plenty of relaxing sunbeds, the pool is a nice size to dip into and cool off or float round on a lilo. Or if you prefer the beach is only a 5 minute stroll away (I would suggest sea shoes as it is quite pebbley). The hotel have vouchers to reduce the 2 x sunbeds and a parasol on the beach from 5 to 4 euros.

You are also a 10-15minute walk from the centre of Skala and its tavernas and bars, of which there are many, some of our favourites were the Pines and definitely Paspalis ( a stones throw from the Melidron). But we massively recommend the BBQ and Greek night that is put on at the Melidron, they are both such a bargain. The food is all fresh and so tasty do not miss it.

The rooms are all air conditioned and kept spotlessly clean with plenty of space and they have a fridge to keep your drinks cool.

Food and drink from the bar is all very reasonably priced with a litre of house wine 10 euros and a large beer 3 euros. We had a greek salad, tzatziki and some bead for 8 euro and there was plenty for two to share as a light(ish) lunch.

Room Tip: All the room are nice but only a couple have sea views and a couple over look the pool/bar

My Girlfriend And I, along with 2 friends stayed here for a week at the beginning of September. We found the hotel very clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Sula who seems to be everywhere at once is the person you are likely to see the most as she servers at the bar and its a lovely woman to speak to, always has a smile.
The hotel puts on a fabulous BBQ night and a Greek food night and we attended both, on both occasions the food was out of this world and plentiful. You can also order food from the menu they have. We tried Souvlaki, it was enormous and very tasty. The prices are very competitive so if you did want to just each here, then you could.

The hotel is very well placed for the beach, literally a 2 min walk to it, although as mentioned before the beach does have a lot of pebbles on it. However as long as you have seas shoes then you will be fine. The main stretch in Skala is arpox 5-10 minute walk away with lots of restaurants on the way in case it gets to hot :).

Room Tip: we originally asked for a high room, however they had been taken but we were given on of the apartme...

The Melidron is a fantastic hotel - small & quiet, beautiful grounds & pool and superb service. Nicely located by the beach and just far enough away from the centre of Skala to keep a real sense of peace and tranquility. All the staff were excellent with nothing being too much trouble. The BBQ & Greek Evening's are superb and well worth attending. A great choice for couples and families alike - can't fault it & would definitely return.

If like me you read the terrible reviews first, please disregard the one by the German reviewer who has nothing better to do on holiday than take photographs of his breakfast! The breakfast is perfectly adequate with ham, cheese, boiled eggs, omelettes and the usual cereal, cake etc. and occasionally sausages.

This is a small family hotel where you will be very well looked after by the lovely owner Zeffi and Soula who runs the bar and everything else. It has a smallish pool and sunbeds were always available. It is five minute walk from town along the beach road. Rooms are spotlessly clean and serviced every day. Air con is free and a safe available at a charge. If like us, you cannot find any car hire online (all fully booked in August) there is car rental place next door.

The hotel runs a barbeque night on Mondays otherwise the bar area is quiet at night.
Free wi-fi is available only in reception - a good way to get the kids out of the sun for a few hours.

Some pricing advice: We pre-booked taxi transfers with kefaloniataxi.gr. 60 euros one way or 108 euros return. On time for both journeys.

A large beer in the hotel, 3 euros, G & T 5 euros, cocktails 6 and soft drinks 2.
There is a limited snack menu serving pizza, burgers, salads etc.
Main courses in town average 8 to 12 euros.

This hotel is perfect for a quietish, relaxing holiday. Your name will be remembered by the staff who will go out of their way to help you. It is a shame that next year it is going across to Tui (Thomson) as we like to make our own travel arrangements.

Stayed at the end of May 2013. Great location, very near the beach and only 10 mins, mainly flat walk along sea front to town centre. Very clean and comfortable public areas and rooms. Friendly helpful staff. Breakfasts might be a little repetitive if staying for more than a week and lacked fresh fruit but that's the only slight negative I have about this hotel and wouldn't deter me from returning. Skala is lovely, great beach, plenty of restaurants & bars.
